I was looking through lists of old Vintage decks and I came across a deck called Shaymora that was pretty interesting. Obviously a lot of the cards can't be ported over (Power, tutors, etc), we do get to keep the main core of Mystic Remora, Meditate, and Force of Will while also gaining unrestricted Brainstorm and Chrome Mox. I think the biggest blow to this will be the win condition. We lose both Vault/Key and Tinker/Blightsteel and I haven't been able to find a replacement. Closest I've come is Mishra's Factory/Standstill or Helm/RIP combo which requires a white splash.

I'd love to hear what everybody thinks on the idea and thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I've always wanted to watch Mystic Remora work in Legacy.
However I don't know almost anything about Vintage and I don't know why the card works there (and therefore why doesn't work here).
I imagine jace-storm-control is more popular there than creature decks. But on the other hand there has always been MUD and Dredge decks which are not very concerned about Remora...
For me seems interesting but I wouldn't know where to start building the deck, honestly.
Combo or control shell?

Remora is playable in Vintage because people cast more spells per turn in Vintage. Turn one land, Mox Emerald, Oath of Druids, go. Turn one land, lotus, Jace. Turn one land, A.Recall, Mox, mana up for countermagic. The cute thing about it is that you draw a card with Remora BEFORE the spell that triggered it resolves, meaning if you draw a counterspell you can use it right then and there.

Remora works well against your typical blue decks, combo decks, and storm decks. It's garbage against Workshop and Dredge, so it's actually not widespread anymore. Also, the existence of Delver of Secrets alone probably makes Remora much worse than it was, because having such a ubiquitous fast clock getting you early makes it easy for the blue player to sit back and wait out your Remora while pounding you into the dirt. It pops up from time to time.

Legacy decks play fewer cards each turn than Vintage, at least initially, so I suspect it's less main-deckable. Plus, creature-based decks are more popular in Legacy. I think it's playable, but you'd need a shell that works without it and brings in Remora against the decks where it is good - control and combo, mostly. It's particularly spicy with that Phyrexian thing that eats counters off of cards, I think.

Remora is only playable in a format infested with creature-less or creature-light combo and control decks.

That's *playable*. Not even necessarily great. In a format like Legacy which is, to some extent, defined by creatures tapping sideways... Remora is literally a blank card in over 60% of matches.

Let's assume - for a moment - that you can get Mystic Remora+Riptide Chimera or Hex Parasite on-line regularly. Is either of those going to be worthile in Legacy?

Aaah shaymora. I piloted the deck the week after Rich Shay first made the deck. God it was sweet, commandeering and force of willing everything left and right.
