That landstill deck must be the ugliest deck I have ever seen, and I have seen some shit..

If it wasn't for that asian guy rocking "that" Landstill, Delver variant wouldn't exist nowadays- as far as I know he's the creator of the original Canadian Threshold with David Caplan back in the day (they're both canadians)

The deck is the serious shit. Snare, Stifle, Factory, Standstill, Cruise, Dig AND Sudden Shock? Tons of old-school class mixed with modernity!

does lands just have good matchup vs delver?

If you have a good start, yes. Because you run two EE main and can loop them on top of having Tabernacle, being the most effective Wasteland deck in the room and there is not a whole lot of grave hate in the Delver decks right now. Also you get to draw 3 cards a turn while they get to do it maybe four times. Its fun to play.

The two Lands listed are of the rG combo variety, no EE.

With that said, there is no denying what you just wrote, Lands has a couple of (not too rare) opening hands that just crushes Delver.
There is currently, at least, 4 Lands at x-2 or better.

Oh, Combo lands runs 4 Punishing Fire, 3/4 Grove, 3/4 Crop Rotation and 4 Gamble. You just become the control deck faster than Delver can deal with it and once you have Loam going, you just get more mana to loop Fire and run them out of Creatures. Having a 4/2 Split of Exploration and Manabond helps too. There is also the matter of the flying 20/20 that they have exactly 0 answers for that is a fun way to close out the game.

I can not wait for my Gambles to arrive in the mail, its all I am missing to build this.

Trolling with style = win.
Using markers to blacken the background and just making the cards look like they are designed to cause epileptic shocks = not so cool.

I would not have minded a drawn dickbutt on them, I do like a completely whitebordered deck etc.
But those cards really bothered me more than I'd like to admit.

Sullivan also called his opponent the best Miracles player in the world, and Cedric has been gushing over Schonegger and his deck all afternoon. The praise is definitely not one-sided.

Ross is pretty much the only person who plays Infect and does well at bigger events with it, and he has been the best player on SCG's tournament circuit in 2014, so it's no surprise that they are featuring him.

Well, both players played in one fo the largest GPs in Magic history, with over 4,100 players. I'd say that calls for some praise. And Tom Ross is the best aggro player around at the moment.

To be fair Philipp's draw wasn't shabby at all (sure, sitting on 3 lands in Game 2 is bad, but that also had to do with Top'ing for answers).

Royce debated his opener before keeping it and Dan went down to six cards for Game 2. Royce led off with a Dark Ritual into a Cabal Ritual then resolved a Lion’s Eye Diamond. Royce cracked for red while maintaining Priority for Infernal Tutor, getting a Cabal Ritual and proceeded to flash back Past in Flames. From there Royce played all three rituals again to play Infernal Tutor and hit Dan with a lethal Tendrils of Agony for the Turn 1 kill.

Just got back from GP, I scrubbed it pretty hard. Started off well with 3-0 then punted a game that I had due to math miscalculations and started on a tilt, lost rounds 6 and 7 to finally get eliminated from contention, friends were still in so i stuck it out for points and said as soon as they were good to go to just find me and i'll drop, won round 8, they were out and found me during round 9 eventually and mid match i just sign the slip giving my opponent the win. The trip down was an odyssey for me anyway so I was done for the main event to care about grinding PWPs.

Hardly played delver or stoneblade at all, which made the event a learning experience playing matchups I had never seen. While having a very strong legacy pool that i can play almost any fair blue based deck, I also have little experience playing with or against non-blue decks. Also my metagaming caused me to board a lot more hate against those matchups and didn't run into any of them so sideboards were very awkward during the weekend. It also meant a lot of my matches were a bit more random.

Might be a bit off but I recall playing: Death & Taxes, Oops! All Spells, Junk Depths, Miracles, UR Delver once, Jeskai Stoneblade once, Merfolk, Belcher, Punishing Loam, Painter, and MUD. First time i played all of these decks in tournament except for Delver to be honest, so it was definitely a learning experience in most games.

I did have a lot of fun getting wrecked by Imperial Painter in the Super Sunday Series. The second game was incredibly grindy but watching it go off and all the decision trees alone made it worth getting 2-0'd in a totally deserved way. Hopefully you did well today man.

A friend of mine said to me that he had seen tom ross playing two lands during the match vs Landstill.
Don't know exactly when, but he said that the sequencing was like this:
Tom ross plays a land, cast crop rotation that is countered by a Force of will, then he casts treasure cruise and replays a land.

I don't have acces to the video right now. Did anyone witness that? I have a hard time believing Ross cheated...

I actually remember noticing that when he was playing, I did not think a whole lot of it. Thought, maybe I had missed something at my end, so much was happening.

Seeing how much was happening and that this is an isolated incident, I am willing to say he fucked up, not he had malice intent. There is, as far as I know, no pattern of this. A one off is sloppy play, not cheating. I know I myself have done far worse.

Is there a thread, which discusses the winning deck (uwr stoneblade)? Maybe I am blind.
It looks very strong, because it utilizes the strength of UR delver decks (mainly Treasure Cruise with cheap spell spam), while also having a superior plan against said deck(s) in the SFM package. It is also interesting that he picked Young Pyromancer over Delver.

Why? Are you a childhood friend? The guy has won an inordinate amount of events in a game with a high degree of skew. I don't understand this white knighting for these people. I err on the side of cheating, if anything if he's such a pro you'd think the chance of playing two lands is even lower. You might say, 'he wouldn't risk his e-Reptuation by cheating on camera' but look at the evidence to the contrary.

I can't believe Wizards hasn't found something to prevent people from playing multiple lands in a turn especially in the top 8 of an event with 200 judges. If you'd to play your first land with a marker or turned 180 degrees it would reduce the odds of playing additional lands in a turn.

Tom Ross has been under the cameras a lot lately. I highly doubt that he was interested in cheating under those circumstances. It was a very long tournament. Anybody here who thinks they haven't done similar or worse things when they were tired at the end of a long tournament is certainly mistaken. I'm betting nobody is more embarrassed by the footage of the double land play than Tom Ross.

Yeah, the fatigue is real. BBD f.e. did not remember if he had drawn a card from probe in the finals.
I guess that tells a short story.

What is next; do you people think Julian is also a cheater? He did win a lot with elves and attacked with a sick elf under camera. Must be dirty no?

He won the die roll and led with a forest and passed the turn. A shitty basic forest from a new set too, so I knew right away he wasn't playing a real deck.

I swore out loud because I kept a Blood Moon hand.
I drew and played my Blood Moon.

He played another forest, played some stupid 4/2 bear, and attacked me for 2.
I played a Jitte.

He plays Bear Umbra on his stupid 4/2, attacks for 8, untaps his lands and plays another stupid bear.
I'm pretty sure I drew a land and picked up my cards in disgust.

So much fail.

If somebody pays for the tournament entry, then they can play whatever deck they want if it's legal. And if they are respectful to their opponents and abide by the tournament rules, then what's the problem?

I think it'd be *awesome* if SCG encouraged people to play wacky, fun, interesting, and outsider strategies and made an effort to put these on stream. We can watch the Delver vs. Show and Tell vs. Storm vs. Elves vs. [Tier 1/1.5 deck] matchups in the later rounds and Top 8. Let us have more fun watching wacky games like Battle of Wits vs. Slivers, or Thallids vs. 100-card Highlander in the earlier rounds.

People that play these decks obviously have no real intention of going all the way and winning the tournament, but at least they'd be a hell of a lot more fun to see every once in awhile instead of Random Spike Metagame Net-Decker #471 vs. Random Spike Metagame Net-Decker #867.

This should probably be it's own topic. But I think most people who watch these streams would agree that highlighting the diversity of Legacy would be more interesting than focusing purely on the relative homogeneity of Tier 1.

To answer all the questions; Lam blacked out all his cards to force himself to keep them. He had a habit of trying to get value out of trending cards, and consequently not having some to play with when needed. Cappy told him ones like Force, Bstorm, Goyf etc. Would never be worth unloading, and Lam knowing how ADD he is, did that so no one would ever buy or trade for them. He has been playing that same damn deck since before the split.

It's possible they really don't care much about the eternal formats, preferring to concentrate on Standard and Draft, where most of their money is made. The eternal formats make their business partners money but not WotC so much.

I was on U/R.

Never again.

Yeah I almost played that deck, then decided I just wanted to crush it instead. I even bought foil Delvers.

Went 12-3 for 45th place with Deadguy Ale. One of my losses was to Bob Huang, so I will be keeping tabs on Channelfireball to see what he says about me on his report.

LOL, when I lost round 12 to Bob, I see Lam (I play against him from time to time in Toronto area) and asked how he did that round since we were both 11-1 (well me now 11-2). He won. I said I was happy for 2 reasons. He's a good guy and happy he's doing so well and number 2, I've only beaten him twice when he's on UR Landstill. Once as Deadguy, the other as Tin Fins. So with his win and my loss, I'm not likely to face him next round as he's an auto loss for me.

Seems like you made a good choice... Congrats!! :)

Also - was awesome meeting and running into so many sourcers there. Had a pretty awesome time at the event, aside from the food situation and round length on day 1.

Jim Ross would be awesome. "Oh my God king! Did you see that?? Delver of Secrets!"

Oh my GAWD ALMIGHTY! He just drew 21 cards off Griselbrand! Somebody get in there and stop him!#!!@#

What about Jim Ross? Everything's better with Jim Ross right?

Wasn't this supposed to be GP Hollywood anyway?

I went 6-3, bubbling in the 9th round. I was on a deck that one opponent called "BUG Delver without Delvers." Really, it was a BUG Walkers control deck with DRS as my only creature, if anyone played against me.

I scrubbed pretty hard in Round 9 due to stupidity and exhaustion in Game 1. Sad way to get knocked out. :(

6-3 is a great result with BUG Control. That's one of the hardest archetypes to play right now.

I finished 6-3 with GWb Maverick.

Promptly went 0-2 after two byes (UR Delver and Sneak & Show) then rattled off four in a row before a loss to BUG Delver. I misplayed pretty badly in the BUG Delver match in game two but I learned a lesson.

Had a great time except for the very long time inbetween rounds.

Thanks. I actually felt very well positioned. I lost to UR Delver (Blood Moon, always going to be good vs. BUG), Sneak and Show (I knew my combo matchup wasn't great), and Death and Taxes (which should beat me).

I was able to face two Elves decks which was basically a Bye each time and felt very comfortable with every matchup. I still think the deck is great and I will continue to play it, as my other favorite archetype (OmniTell) feels wrong for the meta right now.

Anyone remember the name of the dealer with the box full of $0.50 foreign crack? Finally found a Russian Treefolk Harbinger there and now I'm seriously jonesing for the rest of the set.

Oh and Russian Children of Korlis too. Nothing like getting a judge called for a card in a foreign language that gets judges called in English.

Went 11-4 with UWR Delver, good for 110th Place. Oddly I played against only 2 Treasure Cruise decks. 4 Death and Taxes and 3 Elves decks though.

There were actually 3 separate stores operating at that booth. Something like MTG Stronghold was the sign on it.

And thanks for the russian kids. they were very productive all weekend and the price was certainly right. ;)

Pink Bunny Games had loads of the stuff, but I think it was a dollar.

The more appropriate (and better in context) quote is "somebody stop the damn match!".

Damn you, Lemnear. Those videos are like crack, Twinkies, or MMORPGs. I don't go near them because I can't stop. I just lost almost an hour of my life. Atleast I laughed a lot.

Ran Dredge, went 5-3. Saw basically the opposite hate cards than what I was expecting. Strange.

What did you face? Leyline, Jixlid Jailor?

I expect, you expected Cage, RIP and Surgical?

I saw the Yxlid Jailer used against me when I was playing Reanimator, apparently the guy thought I was dredge also. I did not see Cage in my 8 rounds at all. A BUG Delver player had a Reanimate in his sideboard that be brought against me.

It was the Magic Stronghold, it's my local store. I picked that box clean before y'all got to it :P

If you want me to look through that box for something else, let me know.

Do they charge more in store? or less?

well, sdematt and I both ripped through a few unsorted, unpriced boxes they had lying around, picked out stuff we wanted... waited for weeks to have it priced....

I actually went through it and priced it myself during some downtime at work (i had picked out non-foil japanese/german, not a lot of pre-8th stuff, mostly minor/commander rares), and came up with a price based on a photo i took of it all laid out. when the owner finally got around to pricing it he had come up with $65 more than what i had... a whole bunch of the 50¢/$1 rares had been nudged up. extra $10 on a japanese vamp, Noxious revivals for $1 or $2 or something, $30 for a playset of Russian 9th Sleight of Hand (cf €12 for a playset on MKM).

I don't really place a large value on Foreign over English for non-foils of that calibre and rarity, so I was not really impressed. I just flushed store credit on the stuff but it was a roll-eyes moment all the same.

anyways. I've since joined the german-language Facebook group so things are gonna change for the better (but to the detriment of my wallet).
