We have an epic punts thread, so why not one for amazing plays/lucky plays? There may be one somewhere but I'm too lazy to search for it. Yes I'm allergic to the search function, sue me.

In the SCG Open last Sunday, I played against ANT in round 8 for a chance to ID into the top32, I was on Miracles.

In game 3 on the play I lead off after a mull to 6 with Island pass. My opponent Probes me to see Brainstorm, Top, CB, and 2 fetches. He then play a Duress, so I Brainstorm into Brainstorm, Ponder, and a Tundra. I decide to hide the CBtop lock, with the CB on top, and he takes out my Ponder. He then Surgically Extracts my Brainstorms!!! Leaving me with literally 3 lands in hand, 1 in play, and a randomized deck. I thought I was pretty much toasted at this point for sure. He passes the turn and I rip a Top off the top which I windmill slam and pass back. He's unable to go off for a few turns since he had an overload of disruption and not much gas, pretty soon after I have a Vendilion Clique and Ethersworn Cannonist in play with a hand and top 3 full of counters and he's locked out.
He does eventually cast Ad Nauseum on my end step at 6 life so I let it resolve, he flips a Brainstorm and a Tendrils going to 1. On his turn he untaps and casts the Brainstorm, and I respond by saying "gg?", he says no and tanks for a bit, puts 2 back and casts another Brainstorm, I instantly point at Cannonist and he's like "oh yeah! Crap!". A judge was actually sitting next to me at that point watching since there was like a minute on the clock. Insane play by him on turn 1 followed by a little luck on my side :).

He was a nice guy but man he was the slowest player I've ever seen. It was the only time I've ever considered calling over a judge to watch for slow play in the second game. I didn't since I had won the first and had a decent position in the second, but he stole the win and g3 started with about 10 on the clock. Very insane match regardless.

Only downside to an otherwise good story.

That's fair, I was probably a little hasty in saying that even though I know he just lost when he cast the Brainstorm. I usually let the loser decide what to say first so I don't over tilt someone on accident. I was just a little annoyed at how slow he had played all 50 minutes, on every turn, with every cantrip. Plus I needed time to go for a smoke.

Share a story Julian, didn't you win on a mulligan to one?

Copy pasta from my Knoxville report

Game 2: He goes, Dual into Delver. I again cast Deathrite Shaman. No daze. Feeling good here. No delver flip, He plays another dual. Stoneforges for Batterskull. Okay. I untap. Now, I could simply STP the Stoneforge, however, him allowing DRS to resolves signals to me that he has no daze, and if he has force, then no matter what I play it doesn’t matter. I cast Choke. As the S.A.S. Says: “Who Dares, Wins”. He grimaces. Goes to his turn, no flip. Cracks a fetch to lotus petal his tropical for another delver. I rip a Zealous Persecution, cast it, he says “fuck this” and scoops. I wish him good luck as I leave. All silence. The salt is real.

SCG Providence:

Opponent leads with mountain goblin guide swing for 2!! I'm staring at my hand consisting of Therapy, Iona, 2x swamp, Duress, dark ritual, Entomb. So I say sure, trigger..reveal animate dead. Needless to say, I was rather happy with how the sequence of events went after that play. Lol

I played RGW Madness/Zoo brew in Inv-7Th-Rav Extended. In game1 the opponent got me with a fast ScepterChant lock. I sided in Aura Shards and got it outon turn2 via BoP. He once again assembled the combo and continued to Chant-lock me for a while. I was about to scoop, when I realized that I may simply eot-discard-cast Basking Rootwalla and got rid of the annoying stick.
Not the best play ever, but I somehow like it and it brings back memories of an old, long dead format.

Not legacy but this happened last night on the modo cube. Drafted mono white bombs/control/stuff. My opponent has a suspended greater gargadon and lots of lands in play. I have a few creatures but not much pressure. He proceeds to tap all of his land for mana, sac everything to gargadon so it's sitting at one counter, upheaval, play a land, then sac that to GG, he attacks and puts me to the 13. I play land and pass, go to 4. Play wall of omens and block. Play Kitchen finks go to 6. Block go to 8. Next turn play ajani Goldmana, -1 to give finks a +1/+1 counter. Block again go to 10. At this point he has a wood elves in play and Natural Orders for progenitus, he decides not to attack. I then play archangel of thune and plus ajani to go to 12 and give everythign +1/+1. He leaves his creatures back. Next turn play silver blade paladin, plus ajani, and swing with archangel to go up to somewhere in the mid 20's and he concedes next turn.

Later on in the draft I was able to beat a turn 3 show and tell for Ulamog hitting me with two annihilator triggers.

Someone first-picking Godsend in Theros Draft, picking up two (!!) Brimaz in their Journey packs and an Elspeth in their Theros pack.

They 4-0'd that draft.

I played in my first Vintage tournament on Sunday, well first Vintage games ever... I ended up 6th out 12 going 3-2 and the three decks I beat all had power and I have none ^_^ In any event here's my nice little story...

I built a Mono White unpowered hate bears deck (I had the vast majority of it already from D&T) and I had a Grand Abolisher in play and play a Leonin Relic-Warder on my oppenents SDT, and he goes to draw a card with it... I just point at my Abolisher and say "No." That was the highlight of my day.

Also at Origins last year I am on a mull to four on the draw against RUG Delver... I kept a hand with Vial, Thalia, Karakas, and Mangara. I ended up RFGing 3 duals (2 Volcs and 1 Trop), wasting 1 and leaving him with only a Tropical Island in play when I beat him down in the last round of Swiss before the cut.

I'm playing Vintage for the first time with Grixis Control at a small tournament, facing Randy Buehler in the mirror after having beaten him already in the Swiss on the way to a perfect day so far.

Game 1: I'm on the play as the higher seed, but I stumble on land drops, so he gets out ahead. We trade our first Dark Confidants, but he sticks a second while mine gets answered by a Bolt (or something). I end up using a Demonic Tutor just to find a land and to shuffle the top of my library from a Brainstorm lock, but I have plenty of reactive spells in hand. His Dark Confidant lives for a few turns before he plays a Merchant Scroll, grabbing Force of Will, then ships the turn. He might have also had a Jace in play. I draw my card, another reactive spell, and ship back.

He plays Yawgmoth's Will. I play Force of Will. He Forces back. I play Drain on his Force. He Forces yet again. I play Force on his second Force. Stack clears, with my Mana Drain countering his Force.

I untap, slam a Jace, Braintorm, use Snapcaster to replay Demonic Tutor, play out Vault and Key. He's fuming, but it ends out okay for him because...

Game 3: I keep a seven with no countermagic, Dark Confidant, or Jace but plenty of bombs including a Library of Alexandria and a Yawgmoth's Will, as well as two Lightning Bolts. He mulls down to five and clearly does not look happy. He plays a Ruby and a land, plus Time Vault and says go.

I take the next few turns drawing off Library of Alexandria and hitting my land drops, but still with nothing super exciting. I mainphase a Mystical Tutor to grab an Ancestral Recall at some point because I would otherwise have to discard. After activating Library, I cast Ancestral Recall, which eats a Mental Misstep. I let the Misstep resolve.

He passes back, and I try a Jace after activating Library. It gets REB'd, so I pass back.

He draws and ships back to me. I play a Yawgmoth's Will. He casts Mana Drain. I Force; he Forces back. Now I'm down to 4 cards and my Library is shut off.

He rips Tinker for the turn, transmutes his Mox for a Key and wins the game on the spot.

Obviously, I walked myself into this by fighting over the bombs instead of just continuing to push ahead with Library. phazonmutant gives me considerable grief over this.

I'm in round 3 of my first Vintage tournament at GP Cincinatti, and I'm playing "Power jammed into my Legacy deck.dek" against an opponent whose first turn is something like Beta Sea and Beta mox into Pack Rat. Having never played the format before this point (I finished off my set of power just hours before), I'm pretty dumbfounded by this. I make an inconsequential play on turn 1, and he plays a land and Nightveil Specter on his turn 2. I think I play a Lodestone Golem on turn 2, not really knowing what to expect out of what seems almost like a Standard deck with Beta pimp, when he attacks with his Nightveil Specter, flips my Time Walk, and proceeds to cast it. I about died laughing at this; the blowout was so brutal that I wasn't even mad.

In game 3 of that same match, I had what I believed to be an awesome 7. After his opening play of land, go, I open with Sea into Lotus, breaking Lotus for black, and cast Thopter Foundry followed by Demonic Tutor for Sword of the Meek. I cast the Mana Crypt in my hand, use the mana to cast Sword, and pass the turn thinking that there is no way that the Pack Rat/Nightveil Specter deck could beat that. My opponent seemed unconcerned with this development though, an attitude which was justified by his turn 2 of land, mox, Energy Flux. I ended up conceding the game to an army of Pack Rats a few turns later.

WInning after getting attacked by EMrakul? Easy.

Was playing vs Mono blue control with a transformative sideboard into show and tell / Emrakul. It was before the change on legendary rule.
In game 3, He has back to basics in play, i have a tapped karakas in play and two others in hand.
He plays show and tell, i put a revoker naming something irrelevant, I let him attack me sacrifice nearly everithing except a thalia and a land (sacrificing my untapped karakas).
I draw a flickerwisp. I play karakas and bounce emrakul.
Then he recast show and tell, i put Flickerwisp into play and bounce emrakul with my flickered karakas.
On my turn i draw my fourth Karakas.
On his turn he plays a third show and tell in a row, i put Karakas into play. that destroys both legenadry lands. and on my turn i play my fourth karakas to bounce emrakul and win 2 turns later :)

4 karakas beats 3 show and tells in a row for a SAVAGE BEAT :)

Was playing in a later round of a tournament that had begun in the afternoon, meaning we were approaching midnight. I was on Team America against Aggro Loam, and he wins the first game quite quickly after a turn 1 Chalice, followed by turn 2 Wasteland + Loam. The opponent has five or six friends watching the game, nodding to each other before telling their friend to hurry up and win, since they're all hungry.

I mull to four in the second game, and on the play I open Deathrite Shaman, Tarmogoyf, Polluted Delta, Hymn to Tourach. I go turn one Deathrite, turn two Hymn (nabbing Chalice and Seismic Assault), turn three Brainstorm, Tarmogoyf (4/5), turn four Tarmogoyf, Thoughtseize for a Bob (turning my Goyfs into 5/6:s).

"I hit you for 10?"

"Whoa."

So on turn 5 I swing him to five life, and in the mean time he has played a Chalice on one, a Mox Diamond and a bunch of lands.

Obviously shaken by the loss, my opponent mulligans but even so starts Loam-shenanigans on turn two of the third and final game. On his third turn, at the end of his drawstep, I cast Vendilion Clique through Deathrite Shaman and see a hand of 6 lands and the Loam he just dredged. I take it, leaving him with a grip full of lands and on a complete tilt.

It might just be one of the most insane/lucky games of Magic I have ever played. The game two Hymn, leaving him with mostly lands, was completely back-breaking.
