Drew Levin used to be one of the biggest names on the SCG tournament circuit. Why don't we see him participating anymore? He also used to write about Tier 1 decks and their interactions, but the majority of his articles over the past year have concerned Tier 3 brews.

Hopefully dropped off the face of the map, I remember seeing this kid tweak and cry to judges before. Literally acting like an infant by stomping and pounding his feet. It was extremely amusing and embarrassing for him. He also has an attitude that he is better than everyone else.

You know, my Facebook and Twitter handles are at the bottom of all of my articles. You could just ask.

To your subject question, I work a much more demanding job than in years past, so I have far less time to travel and play Magic. I enjoy my job a lot, but of course I also miss getting to game as much as I used to.

The other answer is a little more complicated, but definitely related. One reason why I write about decks that are far outside of the competitive mainstream is that it is both more satisfying to attempt to create decks than to refine existing ones and because the audience for those sorts of articles is far larger. The people who want to play Legacy far outnumber the people who can play Legacy, and so the market for Legacy articles is actually dominated by people who can't play Tier 1 decks due to card availability. I spent several years ignoring them, only to realize that they were the largest segment of my readership. My decision was made easier by other writers' decisions to write about Legacy in a more thoughtful and thorough manner in advance of major tournaments. When I started writing about Legacy, I was one of maybe three people writing about the format for a major website. I'm thrilled to see how much Legacy's audience and content production has grown over the last three or four years.

Part of that growth, however, means that there are people far more qualified than I am to write about Legacy's competitive landscape nowadays. As you pointed out, I don't play nearly as much anymore. My opinions are far less informed than they used to be. I have less time to prepare for events, and this tends to mean choosing to skip them them rather than play without adequate testing or forethought. Given how much time I have, I would rather spend it providing baseline ideas for people who want brews than spend it doing a worse job of analyzing the current Legacy metagame than someone who played in an event in the past weekend.

I am relatively new SCG Premium subscriber (few months in) and I have really liked to watch you play brews and now even try out Vintage. Hopefully you continue to write and record videos. I like them :) Also the fact that Legacy is relatively cheap to enter in mtgo at the moment means that there are people who are looking for Legacy content that helps them to start to play (much like me). And it seems you have the platform and the means to provide content for those people.

By the way how informed you are about Vintage as a format? Have you followed it intensively? Played it before?

ESG doesn't do Facebook and Twitter.

Maybe it's just me but I'm far more interested in tier 3 brews rather than reading an article about how hard they get off when they place a Tropical Island or jizzing over how good Jace is. Usually come away with a couple of new pieces of tech.

Hi, Drew. Thanks for the reply. I'm not on Facebook or Twitter, so that's why I asked here. Sorry, I was not trying to be impersonal. I wasn't aware there were that many people looking in on Legacy but not able to play. I'm glad that you take passion in brewing up little-explored decks for these readers. I miss your old output and analysis but am satisfied that you are connecting with a new and different audience. If your schedule changes down the road, maybe we'll see you in a future Players' Championship race. Cheers.
