View Full Version : Restore Kiki-Jiki in Legacy

Hola people.
After some games on Cockatrice i've been beaten by a guy with a brew that included Kiki-Jiki, Imperial Recruiter, Baleful Strix, DRS and Restoration.
I've talked with him after the game and he's shown me the list, that's in a very-alpha status: but the concept intrigues me, so i've started to think about a deck with
-Kiki-Jiki,Imperial Recruiter, Restoration Angel: this is the base: allow to have a combo-plan with cards (very) strong by themselves, a tutor synergistic with all the deck.
From this point, i'm browsing in open sea  there're many (an incredible number) ways with different color, since the base takes "only" two colors (but Kiki-Jiki casting cost is quite demanding, of course). My idea is to merge Blink.deck (one of my loves since Ravnica-Timespiral T2) with a fast closer (one of Blink problem) and many singleton/techs (i'm an addicted of them, unfortunately).
Some Ideas:
-keeping only WR: Mother of Runes, Stoneforge mystic (sfm with haste is very sexy), peacekeeper, Kitchen Finks/aven riftwatcher, Thalia, Fire Imp, Karmic Guide
But Blue seems an obvious inclusion: gives Brainstorm, Venser pw (and normal one), Vendillion, Trinket Mage, counterspell, Meddling Mage...
On other way, seems very sexy (more techy and more unstable) going on Dack Fayden+Goblin Welder+Wurmcoil: need to think if it deserves Black with Deathrite Shaman (I think that this deck needs 4x of fixer/accelerator: this, Bop, some Mox... dunno). Green becomes another good choice at this point: Life from the loam+Bop/Mox Diamond+Punishing Fire seems pretty nice with Dack/welder.
These are only the most clear option: i've thought about Thousand-Year Elixir (and Skill Borrower too) but i was going too deep in the One Way Road to the Oblivion of (too much) Tech Decks. I'll keep on thinking about these ideas but i would hear other (creazy) minds too =D hoping I didn't mess up anything (this is my first topic^^), see ya!

Village Bell-Ringer combos with Kiki-Jiki and can be tutored up with Imperial Recruiter. Obviously it's not a great creature on its own, though.

Yep, my idea is to have a midrange/control/combo deck (Lol, so many words to make it seem reasonable) where the last part (combo) is just a fast closer (as i said, one thing that many blink decks don't have).
Anyway, other suggestions: If we reach a significant number of :1: drops (like Mom, Drs, Welder/grim) Ranger of Eos could be pretty. Or could be reasonable to test Lavinia of the Tenth with Kiki-Jiki (and Venser Pw, obv).
And so on =D

wtf, it's already "restored" ok?
kiki-jiki + goblin settler = your opponent doesn't get to cast anything (unless they're dredge/belcher)
Both cards can be tutored using matron, already in goblin decks.

It's always a cheesey way in EDH to win, I own a Recruiter and with :r::r::r::r::u::6: you could play Rectuiter-->Kiki-->Pestermite and possibly win on the spot. But then... there's that whole "mana thing" in Legacy, right
The fact is, when you're dropping something for :r::r::r::2: in Legacy, you pretty much need to win either that turn or next, and be protected. The first thought that came to my head, actually, was something closer to a Dragon Stompy Shell, here's some ideas:
4x Chrome Mox
4x Chalice of the Void
4x Trinisphere
4x Seething Song
4x Simian Spirit Guide
4x Imperial Recruiter
2x Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker
1x Pestermite
4x Blood Moon
1x Magus of the Moon
1x Phyrexian Metamorph
1x Phyrexian Revoker
1x Faerie Macabre
1x Ali from Cairo
Lands
4 Ancient Tomb
2 City of Traitors
4 Volcanic
Fetches
Basics
Wastes
...Just something to think about.
And lets say you go:
T1 Chalice 1
T2 Play Recruiter. And if you already have Kiki in your hand, you can always tutor for a Simian Spirit Guide to power out Kiki.
T3 Could be either playing Seething-->play Kiki, tutor for Mite. Or drop a Moon/3sphere/Chalice 2.
T4 Play pestermite, win.
Keep in mind, 5 turns (best case scenario, assuming your hitting your land drops and not getting Wasted, which is almost a guarantee) is a long time to hold out. I think with a combo like this you're almost gonna wanna "power" him out with fast mana. Let me know what you think though

I tested 2 Restoration Angels in Goblins before. I don't have a list on me, but Restoration Angel blinking Matron for Kiki-Jiki, blinking Tuktuk Scrappers to kill two artifacts, blinking Ringleaders & Siege Gangs were all sweet. I think the deck would need a bit of a retooling since it was a little clunky, but I really liked the idea. It also helps Goblins beat Moat & Engineered Plague and nowadays, allows you to fly over a True-Name Nemesis.

Already restored? Never seen a Kiki Jiki in a Legacy tournament, never.
@Mystical: nice idea, but i think that kiki doesn't resolve any Stompy Problems: if you can collect 5 Mana and playing a 2/2 you could have won anyway in a deck like this no?
My idea is to put Kiki in a deck that could value him in any case (like goblin, of course): unluckily goblin has different game plans and Krenko is always better ^^
What i'm testing is this version, an hybrid with D&T where you can optimize Kiki-Jiki (SFM, Mangara, mother, imperial) and join him with a powerfull card like Restoration Angel to gg in one turn (see that Imperial+restoration is "half combo" too)
4 Restoration Angel
4 Stoneforge Mystic
4 Mother of Runes
4 Imperial Recruiter
2 Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker
1 Umezawa's Jitte
1 Batterskull
4 AEther Vial
4 Swords to Plowshares
1 Peacekeeper
1 Phyrexian Revoker
3 Thalia, Guardian of Thraben
1 Kitchen Finks
2 Mangara of Corondor
1 Sword of Fire and Ice
4 Wasteland
3 Rishadan Port
4 Arid Mesa
4 Plateau
2 Flooded Strand
1 Bloodstained Mire
2 Karakas
1 Mountain
1 Plains
1 Rugged Prairie
SB: 2 Phyrexian Revoker
SB: 3 Rest in Peace
SB: 2 Ratchet Bomb
SB: 2 Red Elemental Blast
SB: 2 Orim's Chant
SB: 2 Ajani Vengeant
SB: 1 Sword of Feast and Famine
SB: 1 Ethersworn Canonist
You should check out Goblin Stompy under the Dragon Stompy thread. There they use Moggcatcher in a Moon Stompy shell to tutor up Siege-Gang Commanders or Kiki-Jiki combos. Kiki+Goblin Settler is pretty hilarious, although multiple SGCs is also no joke.
If you want to focus on "combo" finish, you could tweak the manabase to splash blue (instead of basic mountains run blue fetches, blue-red duals and basic islands... obv the 8 moons will give you enough mountains if you need red mana) and then run a creature base of:
4 Imperial Recruiter
4 Goblin Matron
1 Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker
1 Pestermite (beats Moat and is tutorable by Imperial Recruiter)
1 Goblin Settler (FTLlulz and grindy matchups)
3 Siege-Gang Commander
For example, UR COMBPY
//28 manas
4 Scalding Tarn
4 Polluted Delta
4 Ancient Tomb
4 City of Traitors
4 Simian Spirit Guide
2 Mox Diamond
4 Volcanic Island
2 Island
//LockPieces: 12
4 Chalice of the Void
4 Trinisphere
4 Blood Moon
//Tutors: 8
4 Imperial Recruiter
4 Goblin Matron
//Package: 6
1 Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker
1 Pestermite
1 Goblin Settler
3 Siege-Gang Commander
//Planeswalkers: 6
4 Jace, the Mind Sculptor
2 Dack Fayden
If Jace is too tight on the manabase then maybe Koths or Ral Zarek and 1 fewer basic Island and more Moons.

If you're feeling demented, you could play it as straight combo:
Mogg Alarm+Mass Polymorph -> Kiki-Jiki+Pestermite (or whatever...)
Getting to :5::u: for mass polymorph is a little tricky, but not impossible.

I think a deck with Emrakul, tokens and counterspells is a better house for Polymorph =D
@FTW I've seen that version (i checks every post in every Stompy topic), but as stated above i think that put kiki-pestermite in a stompy deck resolves some problems (like stalemate) but adds many others, like a bunch of creatures with little body and a weak combact phase... the list you have posted is nice but, at the same time, seems (to me, of course) it's trying to do many things... too many =/
Jace isn't in the maindeck of many Faerie Stompy, at the end of the fair....
