Greets, y'all.

I've found myself with 6 weeks with quite literally dick all to do. Therefore, I should stream me playing Magic online, right? Right. Here's what I'm thinking:

1) I won't stream using Magic Online, since it's not free, and the client's awful. I'll probably use some atrocity like Cockatrice.

2) If you had a choice, would you prefer the normal webcam of my reactions, or just voice over?

3) What time works best for most viewers?

I've heard not much good about the new client. I've never seen anyone stream anything other that official MTGO though, i wonder if there's a reason?

So far as audio v webcam, w/e really, depends whether you feel presentable on the day i suppose.

Timing is mostly irrelevant to people like me on the other side of the world, either i'll watch it live if it's available or i'll watch the VODs when i get home.

Looking forward to what you come up with

1) MTGO requires you to invest money, both in getting the cards and in entering the tournaments. Additionally, there are prizes for winning. Therefore, people have far more of an investment and have a much more real incentive to be trying to win. If you're playing Cockatrice, you're playing against people who have less investment and less incentive to win, and thus you'll have a lower level of competition.
2) Cockatrice got hit by cease and desists. Maybe there's legal issues in regards to streaming it as well?

I have seen few players stream cockatrice and some streamed Xmage. Don't know if WotC reports them to Twitch or something. Not sure.

I have seen people stream Cockatrice sometimes. I don't think it's a matter of C&D.

It's just that the competition sucks, as Seth said, and thus it's less interesting to watch. I just can't go back to Cockatrice to argue with retards about basic Legacy stuff.

MTGO is an investment. If you're good enough (or smart enough about trading), you can go infinite. Downsides are the initial investment and the abortion of a client.

Cockatrice seems like an okay option, but only if you have good people to play against.

Use a webcam if you feel like it.

MTGO is fine if you want a broken client with proprietary garbage code. Cockatrice you can run an invite only server if you're concerned about quality of play and set up matches in advance/invite friends.
However, I do think there is a key misconception here, which is that players don't have any less incentive to win on Cockatrice, they are just less invested in the current game. They will still do anything in their power to win. Rage quitting a tournament/match you didn't pay for is more likely, but this is not a catch-all. That being said, I don't like the idea of investing in virtual goods that I don't actually own (read the ToS), and if there were ever account hackings en masse I doubt Wizards would do rollbacks for accounts since the hackers would have preempted this and effectively duped their MODO collections, thereby increasing the print run and devaluing the goods (I'm avoiding going off here about artificial scarcity in the digital world).

Wizards did rollbacks when the Not-so-Phantom Powered Cube Draft happened earlier this day. They would certainly fix it in their own, imcompetent way.
