Modern Masters 2 has been announced with sets ranging up to Scars block. This will once again be great for legacy since most of the expensive modern cards are also expensive legacy cards.
10$ MSRP is pretty high, but a guaranteed foil/yugioh card in every pack gives it some more value.
As people were expecting the 3 TBA GPs next year are all MM2.
The print run is limited still, but not as bad as MM1 apparently: https://twitter.com/wizards_magic/status/541588223508893696
Hopefully we can see cards like goyf, zen fetches, noble and damnation at non-mythic rarities.

10$ is ridiculous and you can bet that all the good, expensive stuff is going to be Mythic again.
Also, Tom LaPille as lead developer.

The 70-80$ for a sealed events will make the format completely unplayable by casuals (the vast majority of mtg players). But with MM1 most stores were charging well over MSRP so really the only difference is that WoTC/Hasbro is making profit. I am hoping Prozak (who actually knows how to play magic) being on the team helps keep Tom's garbage like great stable stag out of the set.

IF it's loaded with goodies, the booster price might even go higher this time. Yes, Wizards is making more money instead of the stores selling the stuff on Ebay, but that doesn't mean it's going to stay at 10$, either.

We need GGS to be reprinted. They are getting harder to find, and we need them, as they really do change the Dredge matchup.
10$ is such a high price, I hope they give out candy with the boosters as well.

LOL. I hadn't had coffee yet and I read this and it took me a solid 5 seconds to recognize the snide. I have no skin in the reprint game an down everything they are going to reprint but do people really think they'll reprint the reprints? Prolapsed Anus Goyf and Not Bob Bob? It sort of flies in the face of the masses who collected 4 ups of the 'just' reprinted reprints. If they are extending through scars there are plenty of candidates for mythics without having to go to the well twice on goyf.
15 mythics isn't that hard to fill, especially if you lean on the prior pattern which was legend heavy and included the sword cycle.

Maybe I don't know what a dev does for a reprint set - don't power balance concerns fall to design? In a set full of retreads it isn't like a dev gets to inject pap that design wouldn't effectively 'veto'.

I'm sure the lead design job boils down to decide which chase rares to Upgrade to mythic for this reprint-set

You need a dev team to balance out limited. What cards they want in it is an easy job, the hard one is what you put in after to make draft playable. As a draft fanatic I am dam excited for this. MM was an excellent draft format, then Conspiracy. I feel spoilt.
I think I am getting more hooked on limited of late than anything else. Time to break out my land station.

Yeah, I dunno about everyone else but every Sealed or Draft thing that I've attended since like BotG has left me either feeling good about my pulls, my deck, or both. MMA was a great draft, Conspiracy was just fun, even KTK Sealed felt solid and my deck was cohesive as were most peoples' at the table. I used to HATE Limited. I really like it now.

Wasn't MMA English only? It's an improvement, although not a great one.

As for the MM2, this seems a shitton like a cashgrab.

Agreed. I enjoyed drafting MMA but prices like these are going to mean it'll be a once or twice thing. :/

The name makes me think it'll be more like a core set. If that's the case, they're either going to have a hard time continuing to sell them at $10 a pack or they have a set price they want those mythics to be at.

Good point. Perhaps between the increased print run and price, this will actually sell at MSRP!
So uh... which hotel are people booking for what is certain to be a ridiculous event?

every card in Modern Masters can be added to your favorite Modern-format decks.
Soooo price on JTMS ain't going anywhere.
I'd pay $100 for a sealed GP of it, which is what they'd probably charge.

FML, just tanked the original's value... Ehh maybe not, I'm remembering that some cards didn't lose value that got reprinted, like goyf and confidant. Is goyf seeing less play now?

thats probably highty unlikely that the zen fetches will get a reprint. Thats an expansionary reprint. Additionally, old fetches are currently being printed like water in standard, and then the zen ones will too eventually.

When I first saw the announcement I misread the MSRP as $6.99. I was much more excited.
It's worth noting that packs in stores will likely be selling for $15+, which means a draft of this set will cost $45+. No thanks. I only drafted Modern Masters three times (two of which were Day 2 of Vegas) because I didn't want to shell out $30 to draft the set. If my LGS inflates the price of packs I just straight-up won't draft it. I'll likely be losing tons of money on each pack and I can play a sweet draft format for free by bringing my Cube and rounding up some friends.
Also, $100 for a Sealed GP entry? No thanks. Depending on what's in this set, your average pool is probably going to be around $30-40 worth of cards at most, and then if you scrub out mid-Day One you've lost $60 on the event plus the cost of travel and hotel. Huge GPs are miserable so it's not like you'd be missing an "experience" if you just stayed at home and donated $200 to charity or whatever.

You're completely forgetting the value of the playmat, sleeves, deckbox, GP foil, etc.
In fact, they just announced the actual cost for general registration is $75 (http://www.grandprixvegas.com) which is a screaming deal.

I don't want to sit outside of the venue from three in the morning to make sure I can get a playmat and make my money back on the event. I just do not care that much.
Also, I doubt we'll get close to the cap. Last GP Vegas I waited in line in front of a group of a half-dozen guys from Japan and behind some guys from Germany. This time around, those folks have their own, local versions of this GP to attend. With the increase in cost for this event, my guess is we'll barely clear 5000, if that. I would be shocked if we came close to the cap.
Also, who in their right mind would ever want to play in a 10 000 man GP? The logistics would be a nightmare, every round would be running years behind schedule, the chances of making prize, let alone top eight, are basically nil, it'll be heaven for thieves, god help you if you ever need to use the restroom, and if you want to be one of the lucky people to get a playmat you'll either have to shell out a ton of money to people selling theirs or camp at the venue overnight. "We're up to 7 000 pre-regs!" would basically guarantee that I wouldn't go to this, because fuck that.

Vegas is probably the place to accommodate something like that. Did they list a venue or just Vegas?

It's all on the website. Las Vegas Convention Center.
The last GP Vegas was done by Cascade pretty sure, not Channel Fireball. Pretty sure Channel Fireball can do better, esp having the lessons of the first one to work from.

Yeah, unsurprisingly a lot of places have sub-$100 flights to Vegas.
