Main core:
1 Ral Zarek
4 Snapcaster Mage
4 Preordain
4 Treasure Cruise
Not in the deck:
Ponder
Gitaxian Probe
Standstill
Young Pyromancer
I was looking for a Grixis Control deck that suits my playing style when I stumbled upon this deck list: http://sales.starcitygames.com/deckdatabase/ID=76892 (http://sales.starcitygames.com/deckdatabase/displaydeck.php?DeckID=76892)
For discussions regarding pandaman's Ur Landstill (Click (http://www.mtgthesource.com/forums/showthread.php?26663-Deck-Ur-Landstill))
For discussions on Eli Kassis' Ubr Pyromancer list (Click (http://www.mtgthesource.com/forums/showthread.php?28859-DECK-Grixis-Control-Thieves))
Instead of Standstill, this deck utilizes Treasure Cruise as draw engine. Usually costing :u:. It is cheaper and we draw 3 when we need to, not when an opponent allows us to. You may cast it when you don't have a Mishra's Factory or Wasteland in play and even on a hostile board.
We run SCM. Young Pyromancer is just another win condition and gives nothing more to the control player. SCM multiplies our countermagic/removal elements by 2 and at the same time delivers offensive/defensive roles.
Preordain is better at providing library manipulation through screening of card draws. When combined with Treasure Cruise we get the best of both worlds: card advantage and card quality.
Ral Zarek's slot is arguable and some might change him to Keranos, God of Storms or Dack Fayden. The latter is busted against Stoneforge Mystic decks. It's a meta call. Ral Zarek OTOH can tap opposing Mazes of Ith or any mana-producer that may be used for countermagic or spot removal against our beaters. He enables untapping of a Mishra's Factory after giving itself +1/+1 so it deals an extra point of damage. Ral carries 2 Lightning bolts that can deal with threats or help bring down an opponent's life total. His ultimate ability can grant INFINITE turns if you get constantly lucky.
