My First Combo Deck

Hello,

I've been looking around for possible combo decks with Gifts Ungiven. After I deemed the explosives, loam and academy ruins lock style deck was too expensive I thought about making a Splinter Twin Deck.

Here's a rough list I found online and tested a bit to get used to the deck and see if it was for me or not.

24 Lands

4 Deceiver Exarch
1 Pestermite
2 Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker
4 Spellskite
1 Body Double

4 Gifts Ungiven
3 Splinter Twin
1 Noxious Revival
1 Unburial Rites
4 Preordain
4 Remand
4 Mana Leak
4 Lightning Bolt

Just wondering how I would make this list the power of a Legacy deck without going too crazy with money.

It doesn't have to be able to have good match ups against any of the top legacy decks, just be a strong list.

4 mana aura spell sounds expensive in mana and vulnerable in Legacy. Gifts sounds even more slow. Running "sol lands" + Blood Moon/Trinisphere/Chalice of the Void @ 0 or 1 would be the direction I would take this deck into in order to compensate for the slowness and high mana cost of the combo.

As far as cheap combo decks go, have you considered monoblue Painter's Servant + Grindstone or Monoblack Buried Alive + Reanimate Necrotic Ooze combo or monowhite Helm of Obedience combo with Enlightened Tutor?

On the other hand, it looks like you could tune that to be a very successful Modern deck!
With time and dedication, you can put your winnings toward the staples you'd need to make a Legacy deck.



It is pretty obvious you copy/pasta'd a Modern decklist into a Legacy forum and asked the community to 'make it work, but not be expensive'... That irks me a bit. You could have at least swapped the Preordains for Ponders so it wasn't blatantly obvious. :tongue:


For starters, actually list your 24 lands. If your intention is to make this a strong (but not top tier) list, those will be important to know. Next, provide readers with more details regarding your financial restrictions. If I suggest adding fetchlands and Brainstorm, and you follow up with "Fetchlands are out due to cost" then my time has been wasted!

Or instead you can not run Preordain/Ponder/Brainstorm and use Blood Moon/Chalice/Trinisphere instead.

If you really want cantrips, I guess you can use Impulse
