The main problem with Slivers were their weak manabase. Running 3 colors (and a black splash) allows you to fetch basics when you need it. After a lot of testing, I had no real problem of mana stability, at the difference with my ancient version when I run City of Brass, Mana Confluence and Gemstone Mine.
Why 4 Galerider and 4 Winged ? Because you always want to have a flying sliver on the battlefield. This is one of the best cards in the list. Flying sliver allow you to ignore opponent's creatures, and this is the reason you can afford to run Swords to Plowshares : you don't care of a Tarmo or a Nemesis. Believe me, 6 is not enough and after a lot of testing, you don't want to cut them.
The list runs 20 lords : Sinew, Muscle, Predatory, Image and Leeching. This one is amazing and is as powerful as another lord. And splashing black for it is not a problem. Most of the time, the Leeching will be played with Cavern or Vial, and just one Scrubland in the list does not weaken the manabase.
Versus combo, unfortunately just hope to kill him in first (after all, you kill tour 4). And the sideboard is a massive hate card against them : Grafdigger's Cage for Dredge, Reanimator, Elves, ANT (Past in Flames), Oops ; Gaddock for Storm, Omnishow, Elves, Miracles, Chalice for Storm, Elves and Miracles, and Harmonic Sliver for MUD, Stompy, Enchantress, Painter, Death and Taxes and Show and Tell.
Cards not included or cut :
- Heart Sliver : interesting, but Leeching is a better aggro card. Heart Sliver is a bad top deck and a win-more.
- Hibernation Sliver : paying 2 lifes and returning a sliver in hand is a dramatic loss of tempo, just as poor as having a sliver blasted with a Lightning Bolt.
- Swords to Plowshares and other removals : why taking care of creatures when your slivers are unblocable, uncounterable and have shroud ? And don't forget you have Phantasmal Image for copying and blocking a big one.
- Force of Will and Daze : after testing, it appears to me that those two would not be as effective as they are in Merfolk. Because Sliver doesn't play enought islands for Dazing and has a lack of blue cards. More, Daze and Fow in Merfolk are run along with Cursecatcher and Wasteland (for some lists). Rather than imitating Merfolk in a mediocre way, it's better to run a full aggro list that can shut down your opponents. And against combos, you've got the sideboard.
- Mutavault : after testing, most of the time my mutavaults were only lands I used to play my Slivers. And the aggro is violent enough for ignoring the mutavaults : they are win-more.
The list is extremely pleasant to play. And I think Sliver can be a valuable deck if people would accept to play it, but it suffers of a bad image in Magic communauty.
Sorry for my english :-)
