So I got into the March Madness spirit and took the Top 64 Legacy cards on mtgtop8.com (except fetches, duals, and basics), and seeded them into a bracket. Which Legacy cards will come out on top?

Vote for your favorite card or whatever you think is more powerful. Doesn't matter what criteria. This is just a bit of fun to see which cards win over others and which cards come out on top. Brainstorm is the clear favorite but hey, who knows what will actually happen?

I'm surprised there was enough Dredge and Belcher to put LED on the list when Dark Ritual didn't make it.

We got over 200 votes so I decided to speed this along a bit faster. The Round of 32 is up!

Preordain vs Dryad Arbor was like a war of the punching bags and sort of funny in a way. Preordain vs Jace just kind of makes me feel like I'm watching someone kick a puppy.

Why is it that we cannot vote anymore after round 16 ?

My bad. I completely forgot to post the further rounds here. Had little time to post it around the various Legacy places this weekend :(

The Finals voting is up:

Thanks for doing this. It was really cool to watch unfold, despite my bracket getting RUINED early on and missing a couple rounds of voting action. Looking forward to seeing this again, hopefully with more ranting and trash talk ("LED edged out Daze? This game is horseshit!").

I was really counting on Wasteland to take it, but it turns out that there are just too many nedleeds in the world.

Thanks for participating everyone! The final voting between two finalists was 93 to 67...with the winner being none other than Brainstorm!

I'm glad you all liked it. Would love to do this again. Perhaps we can do a bracket prediction competition alongside this!

Definitely. It felt at first like the seeding method you used meant that there would be very few upsets but that turned out not to be the case. Although I think if you run this next year, anyone not betting on Brainstorm to win it all again is crazy.

Another thing that might be possible would to pick Legacy archetypes and seed them into brackets that way. Might have to go a little deep but I'm pretty sure you could find 64 of them.

Well there's over 40 on some of those legacy deck flowchart graphics (http://www.mtgthesource.com/forums/showthread.php?26838-Funny-quot-What-to-play-in-Legacy-quot-flowchart-guide), and there are certainly more that could be added. I imagine you could add or separate LED dredge from manaless, make sure all Grixis/RUG/BUG/UR/UWR delver are all there, and add some newer or more fringe stuff like Grixis Control, UWR Gold Digger, UWR Pyromancer, Sylvan Plug, Braids Stax, Tradewind Rider Pod, etc.

I bet 64 is doable :)

Some other people have suggested retiring Brainstorm since it won. I am definitely going to do that. I'm also considering removing Force of Will since I think it would have a similar result as Brainstorm (they both had over an 80% average in each of their rounds minus the finals). It's not unreasonable that most people believe that Force of Will is the glue that holds Legacy together, so removing it would probably result in a more interesting tournament overall.

Doing archetypes would be interesting, though I'd imagine it'd be a little tougher to seed since there may not be a lot of data on older decks and it wouldn't be very consistent.
