Right in my backyard. Maybe I'll take time off to play in my first SCG Open. First I'd have to find something I like though. T_T

Well.... That really sucks! I figured I'd be able to play show and tell now that I finished it. I suppose I just have to wait until the next Mirkwood now!
SUCKSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

Dude there will be a shiet-ton of cars going from Seattle to Portland. You should be able to find somebody to roll with.

Traveling to Portland is my only problem with that.

Man, this is awkward. I have to attend a gala ball on the Friday night (tux and all), then immediately haul ass the next day down to Portland? FML.
This also means I might be playing Magic in the same tux at Portland. That is all.

Portland is fun! Road trips are fun! Magic is okay I guess.

Do it, mang. There's nothing classier than a wizard in a tux.

The $40k solution might also be done by then. I'm so excited :D
But seriously, why the fuck did they move it?

Not sure.
If your going to roll in a Tux, the only deck you should be playing is TES. If someone sits across from me in a Tux and is not playing TES I would be extremely disappointed.
I have no idea why this event was moved. The only item listed on the calendar for Tacoma's convention center that weekend is "Dance Convention & Competition 2015," and I'm pretty sure that event has been going on in past years when SCG came through. The Oregon Convention Center's calendar looks packed by comparison:
Sat 2: Oregon Commission for Women: Women of Achievement Awards 2014
Sat 2: BraveHeart Women Harmony Tour
Sat 2: Read Side by Side Literacy Publications and Consulting
Sat 2 - Mon 4: Columbia Empire Volleyball Association (CEVA): Regional Championship Tournament 2015
Attendance in Portland has always been less than attendance in Seattle (and is bolstered by a lot of Seattle folks driving down), so SCG is undoubtedly losing money by changing venues. Is there some other large Magic event that SCG is involved in that weekend, like a GP?
What's the most likely possibility for this sudden change? Airline mix-up? Venue price increase?

Hey now, tuxedos are evening wear. Showing up to a 10am event in a tux would be a major faux pas. Since formal morning dress has all but disappeared outside the royal family, I suggest a nice grey or navy blue suit to start the day. Just bring the tux with you to change into after 6:00.

Good idea, I shouldn't bring friends to the event, just clothes.

If those are two mutually exclusive options, then you either have way too small of a vehicle, or way too big of a tux.

Lol.
Still, any word on WHY it was moved?

There are rumors that this will be apparent by December, if not sooner.

What's that supposed to mean? Did Santa threaten to bomb the place?

Santa commits all his Evil in July/August. The cold is what keep him sane, which is why he lives in the frozen Arctic...
/no idea about the rumors though.

I heard thirdhand that there were some issues with Washington tax law for the tournaments. Not sure if it has to do with gambling or just paying out cash. Also not sure why it hasn't been an issue before. Take this with a grain of salt though.

Here we go again: http://www.starcitygames.com/news/457_2015+Open+Series+Schedule+Updates
The Invitational would have been Standard/Modern anyway, so it's a good reason for me to devote some more time to non-Magic related activities.

I know it's not SCG hosting it, but inb4 GP Seattle becomes GP Orlando.

Nah, it's in November, so they would move it to somewhere where it will be really cold or optimally snowing. GP Anchorage maybe.

The Anchorage airport is only 7 miles from the Anchorage airport. That's way too convenient for an eternal GP.

The last time I remember seeing tournament results from Anchorage was durning the Lorwyn Standard period, and the winner's deck was entirely Highlander.

Every time, I cry a little inside
Then I remember how disgusting of a company SCG is, but they do have a good reason if what I have read is true about them hosting events at such a huge loss in this state, plus tax loopholes being closed up... And the unwillingness to rent an event center in the Greater Seattle area.

Slightly off-topic. I'm currently in Seattle. What are the best places for the origins prerelease?

Card Kingdom & Mox Boarding House are the main ones in Seattle I hear good things about.

They also run weekly Legacy events. Monday nights at Card Kingdom in Ballard. Thursday nights at MBH in Bellevue. Are you travelling with cards for constructed?
You may need to register for their prereleases ahead of time, though. I'd contact them directly if you intend to go.
