I usually think of Vesuvan Doppelganger (http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=1230) when thinking of cards that have had to be hacked up with errata to make sense under current rules. I wonder if there are others out there that are worse. Anyone know any? And are they on MODO?

Word of Command (http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=202591) is the first one that comes to mind (I recall reading that the card really doesn't work under the current rules, it just does because they say it does or something). Illusionary Mask (http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=201199) too.

Camouflage stays true to the intent but is rather different.

For me it's Chains of Meph. As printed on the card it's still kind of understandable. The current Oracle wording though...

Animate Dead is all chopped to shit. It reads okay, but I kind of hate cards that need to change types or subtypes like that to actually work.

Everything that had substance at one point now says "beginning of the next cleanup step" which is unique among effects; typically nothing occurs during cleanup in order to let the game actually just "clean up". This resulted in the unfortunate perma-death of Waylay, but so it goes.

Stalking Yeti has always said this, but it's ugly recursive language that sucks - "When [this] enters the battlefield, if it's on the battlefield...." also it didn't adopt the Fight keyword like most other creatures that have its ability despite their age relative to the ability (Arena, Contested Cliffs, etc). It should probably just read "When -this- enters the battlefield, it fights target creature an opponent controls."

EDIT: I guess there are corner cases where Stalking Yeti's ability isn't actually the same as Fight, but they are all stupid and it may as well just Fight. But whatever

Is perfectly understandable?

No mention of Time Vault?

Time Vault is just a framing upgrade to make it clearer, nothing major happened to it. If you had of posted that about 10 years ago however...

Cyclopean Tomb is my go-to example of a concept that's easy to express informally but requires many words to translate into Rules.

Just noticed the Oracle text on Blood Lust (http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=1561) too, simple, yet requires a bunch of words now.
