Announcing our new Monday Night Magic weekly tournament.

Monday Night Legacy (keep reading!!!!),
Your Legacy Deck May contain 100% proxies.
(loaner decks available)
Start Time 7:00 PM
Entry Fee $3.00

Our goal is to start a Legacy Community that attracts players who are new to legacy and players who bought Alpha packs when they were new. The main problem in the past is that a player with a "tier 1" deck had a disproportionate advantage over a player who had less resources and a small card collection. By making proxies part of our scene, any player can play any deck leveling the playing field.
The prize structure is designed to help players develop their Legacy collection. The tournament will have different ways of earning points, such as match wins, game wins, rounds played etc. At the end of every tournament each player will have earned certain points. Those points can be saved or used immediately to redeem for Cards. We have developed a list of Legacy Cards that will have a point value established, and when you have the requisite number of points you may redeem for the cards you need.

Starting new nights and getting traction is always challenging and fun. Our starting point is to develop a core group 8-16 players and keep growing. If you have time and are inclined we welcome everyone and hope you pass the message on to other people who are interested.
Level 1 Judge Sam Abramowitz will be running and playing in the weekly tournaments.

All Decks must be sleeved, and it should be clear what the card is that is proxied. Keeping the games moving means you understand your card and your opponent can read what is on the card.

Gradually we want to reduce the quantity of proxies as the months/years go on till we can play proxy-less tournaments.

Between Knightware, MTG Deals, Fire and Dice and Rivals there is definitely a healthy Legacy scene in LA. If you put up tournaments with Legacy Staples on the line (usually at around $25.00 entry) I imagine your store will get more attention. The problem is, there are so many tournaments that the market could be over saturated. My suggestion is to hold Staples tournaments every other month (on the months that Knightware holds it's store credit tournament). There is a fairly large group of us from Orange County that are willing to travel to win staples. Maybe you can start when we get closer to the end of the year and host a GPT for Seattle. There will definitely be a giant wave of players going around to the different stores to get some byes.

I do like the weekly proxy idea. The bar of entry is so high in legacy that it's pretty important to figure out which deck you fall in love with before the new players start buying staples. Also, hopefully this will reduce the amount of Burn, Manaless Dredge, Oops All Spells, Charbeltcher decks.

With Wizard's pushing Modern as the Pro Tour "Eternal Format" there seems to be more and more players breaking away from Legacy to play Modern, which was evident in how many players played in the Modern 5k versus the Legacy 5K when SCG was in town last. Anything anyone can do to strengthen the Legacy scene here in LA is a great thing. I would really like an SCG 20k Legacy Open here (or anywhere on the west coast for that matter).
