View Full Version : Warning! Issues with the new paper Modern Masters 2015 packaging

Aside from misprint galore, there's another big issue:
Appearently, some of the packages are not glued together, making it possible to switch out contents of the package.

Some people also reported that the glue can be undone with something like a razor blade if you're careful enough.
Considering this, I would be very careful ordering anything from Ebay or buying packs from a shop you can't trust 100%.

I love that the official Wizards response does nothing to rebuke these concerns, as if "don't buy packs from shady people" isn't common sense.

It's common sense, but it appears that some people are lacking that, therefore it's a good reminder. What else should they do as long as the evidence is purely anecdotal and based on one video?

What are they supposed to do? Tell you to not buy packs because some assholes could try to screw you over?
MM2015 was their prestige product, yet it amazes me how careless the whole product is treated. What we witness here is typical Wizards incompetence at its best.

It's an experimental packing process and you shouldn't buy loose packs regardless. There are things to get angry about with regards to Magic, but sometimes you guys pick the most trivial of issues.

You can be assured that the new Modern Masters 2015 packaging is subject to rigorous security, safety, and quality testing.
There are also more videos popping up about that issue:

Is that more or less rigorous than the testing that their online platforms undergo?

Just because they test it doesn't mean it has to pass the tests.
As far as MODO is concerned, they willingly shit out new patches with bugs they know and then take ages to fix them. So that statement isn't too far off.

Why would they try out new paper packaging on their most expensive premium product of the year?

Probably due to the limited print run. Normal boosters most likely move more units and cater to the "core" audience, so the backlash would probably even greater if something went wrong like it did here.

*dons tin foil hat*
Because this way, people will buy whole boxes, since that's the only way they can be sure that their product has not been modified

Jesus, the ride with Wizards never ends. Can't they just stick with shit that works?
Why would they try out new paper packaging on their most expensive premium product of the year?
"Vendors will love Modern Masters 2015"
They surely will.

That can likely backfire and hurt the LGS, though. Selling single packs or use them as prices becomes alot less appealing for many people now.

I applaud Wizards for being environmentally conscious with Modern Masters 2015. Not only will the packaging be recyclable, but the set sucks so hard overall that many of the people who wanted to re-experience the original Modern Masters will decide not to open boxes this time around, thereby reducing the carbon footprint even further.

Well, that depends on how many foil Goyfs your shop opens. Three so far at my LGS.

Report from one of the stores in Central Jersey:
A degenerate traded in a few revised dual lands for a box of MM2015. He opened all the packs, kept a Tarmogoyf, and then traded the remaining rares and some more duals for another box of MM2015. He opened the 2nd box of MM2015, then traded all the rares from that 2nd box and and some cards from his binder for a third box to crack.
At the end of the day, the maniac had a lone Tarmogoyf, some Eldrazi and other rares totaling to about a few hundred dollars.
The store got a pile of Revised duals (including a few french WBB Volcanic Islands), a whole trade binder, some MM2015 rares and a large stack of MM2015 commons and uncommons.
How about that for common sense

It tested better than expected, considering little thought was given to how it might actually turn out.
