The idea ro rent a castle for Grand Prix Lille first came up during Team Euroswag’s American raid in November 2014. For the most part nobody really took it very seriously — up until Felix started collecting offers for different places in and around Lille. We had first come across a giant chateau about 100km from the city, but since it didn’t come with its own horse chariot we decided to opt for the somewhat smaller yet much closer Chateau des Ormes. With a maximum capacity of 15 people, we called up some of our friends and filled the remaining slots in basically no time.

Check out my entire GP Lille report on itsJulian.com (http://itsjulian.com/?p=1690).

Including:
- Report of my Trial, Main Event and the Bazaar of Dual Lands
- Elves Deck Tech with Matej Zatlkaj
- Elves Deck Tech with Helium
- Matt Pavlic pronouncing German card names on helium
- LOTS of pictures :-)

In all seriousness though, this was one of the best tournament experiences ever. I can only recommend other people do this kind of stuff as well.

Great report, and I lol'd thoroughly at the German card reading.

Seconded. It multiplies the joy of winning while on the other hand still making the trip as a whole unfortgetable and an amazing experience even if you do not win. I'm glad my days of Airport-Hotel-Tournament-Hotel-Airport are over. :D

Greetings

Awesome report Julian! We look forward to seeing you in Seattle. Hopefully the meta changes a bit before then .

For most part of G2 though, things look grim for me as she has my entire hand locked down with Chalice while beating in with True-Name Nemesis and Mutavault. At 5 life, I eventually have to go for it and cast Glimpse of Nature – it resolves. When I cast my next Elf and announce the Glimpse trigger, she realizes her mistake and counters the Elf. Fortunately for me, the Chalice doesn’t stop the Glimpse trigger and I proceed to draw quite a lot of cards

How does this work? Chalice isn't 'may'. If it was I'd respect the gamble; but since it isn't I can't see any other explanation that isn't cheating on your part. Unless I'm missing something?

EDIT: Looked up rules

Players are expected to remember their own triggered abilities; intentionally ignoring one is Cheating. Players are
not required to point out the existence of triggered abilities that they do not control, though they may do so within
a turn if they wish.

Huh interesting. Not cheating, much respect.

It's overrated. Pretty weak actually. He doesn't even carry party favors on him.

At some point I told him that putting your spells back on top of your library face-up to assure dominance was a bad-mannered move to which he replied that he thinks I’m just trying to run down the clock — bold words for the person taking literally 90% of the game’s time.

What a douche! I like that you wrote his full name in your report, too
And you've just described 80% of Miracles players in the world.

It’s kinda funny how this is worth about what you would get for a Top32 finish in the GP, yet feels sooo much worse anyways. In the end, the two most important things to the non-professional player are success and having a great time with your friends; money itself just acts as a commodity, allowing you to go on these trips.

Yes, that's the feeling I got from our chats. In the end it's about fun and then pride/glory, in that order.

Great report, sorry that the Magic gods didn't ban anything, but hope to see you in Seattle.

Booo! I demand schnitzel and sauerkraut! Also, if somebody brings a lederhosen, I'll totally wear it around the GP.

I know, right! I mean, even stickers or a cheap lollipop would have been a nice consolation. But nothin'.

Who in their right mind would ever eat Schnitzel together with Sauerkraut? For the record: I have never ever tried Sauerkraut in my entire life; even if you were to pay me, it smells so badly, can't really get anywhere near it.

Schnitzel on the other hand is fine :-)

Dan, you realize that a real Lederhosen can easily cost 1.000,- € ++?

I've never had schnitzel I've enjoyed, but I suspect the schnitzel I've had was poorly prepared. People speak highly of it.

Like on top of a brat.

If you actually smear it on a brat, it forms a cabbage patch kid.

Or you can just smear it on your enemies as an act of aggression.

Prepraring a good schnitzel is not hard, but if done incorrectly, it really, really hurts your experience. The best kind is a "Wiener Schnitzel" (Vienna Schnitzel) followed by "Wiener Art" (Vienna Style). The former is the real high end one made from calves, while the later one is made from pork or turkey, but otherwise prepared in the same way. A real calve one will easily cost +70% more than just a Wiener Art one.

We should get sdematt in here to post the Wiener Schnitzl he had in Vienna.

So... I google-imaged "schnitzel" and got this:

https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/236x/98/0e/88/980e88e2c13cbbceb390ccbbbbcdbc93.jpg
which I only recognize because it was Finn's avatar. Wtf?

Sounds similar to crab cakes. If you get one loaded with real crab meat, you'll rave about them. If you get them for a dollar each, you'll soon realize you wasted a dollar.

Edit: Oh F me! I confused schnitzel and spaetzle.
I've never had spaetzle that I've enjoyed...

Baby cow is delicious. I love me some veal.

Haha those were the only German foods I could think of. I don't even know what schnitzel is. But I always get sauerkraut on my hot dogs. I am American scum.

Also I had no idea that lederhosen were so expensive. I'm low maintenance. We can just eat a bunch of pastries and call it a day.

I like this plan.

Looks like you can get lederhosen from Walmart for ~$35.

It's too late to back out now. I already fully intend on purchasing them and bringing them to Seattle on Julian's behalf.

Edit: It doesn't list sizing details, but I'm assuming a large should be fine?

Haha yeah I guess a Large should work. The link is for a women's costume but uh, I'll just step up my jazzercise sessions and eat more quinoa and I should be good.

I'm not shaving my legs though.

I dunno what that guy was saying. But I grew up as the son of immigrants. So although I cannot understand the language, I do understand the guttural sounds of an upset not-quite-American.

So NO LEDERHOSEN. We should totally get ramen though. I know some good spots.

That's a poor substitute. I don't think you can wear ramen.
