How do you determine if someone plays islands or not? Lol

Cheers

Nice report! I think you tipped me over the edge on playing storm at Eternal Weekend. That list looks great! I'll hopefully have some time to try it out, but I'm probably going to stick to Cabal Rituals - they've been serving me well.

Every one of your SCG pictures look like they are taken the exact moment your bowels shift and you suddenly realize you need to poop really bad. I want the whole world to know my feelings on this.

Great job wastedlife.

Great report, learned that all of the 'name' players seem like dicks.

Great report! Actually tickled me enough to be interested in playing legacy again...

you thought it would be different? About the only big name player I've played against that was actually friendly, conversational, and pleasant was Brian Kibler. The rest have been rather pretentious. Bryant's description of Tom Ross's eye roll seems rather on point...

I would have had him on tribal Vampires

Great report. I've been playing ANT for a bit now but reading your report/webpage and watching you on camera has made me interested in getting some rite of flames and burning wishes and giving TES a shot.

Not being talkative means you're a dick?

No, rolling your eyes and leaving without saying a word when you lose is.

Who did that?

(Tom Ross)

EDIT: Can't see it in the report now, huh. Was it edited? Could have sworn this morning I read that Tom left the table without a word.

Yeah I didn't see any mention of that in the report, which is why I was asking.

Additionally, based on the account of their match, it seems as if Chris Anderson and Daryl Ayers were a bit salty after playing Bryant, as well, which made me wonder if that reference was directed at one of those two.

Yes the leaving the game without a word was a reference to Anderson. No idea who Ayers is.

Yep, was Anderson, not Ross. My bad.

I don't think there's a need for the exegesis of Bryant Cook's article to determine who was a dick or not. Tom Ross isn't talkative or empathic, it doesn't mean he's a dick. People are disappointed in losing to Cook, that's normal. People are angry at themselves for making mistakes, that's normal too.

Chris Anderson is a known dick head so nothing new here.

Ayers had very little salt.

I like Daryl. I feel a little bad about calling out Chris Anderson a couple years ago (which was about the last time he posted here) because interactions with him have always been friendly - except for in-game. Tom Ross is either very sullen or very quiet, tough to tell which. Coming from parts of the world around Louisiana, I can confirm that the Deep South and everywhere else are just very different.

And to be fair, Bryant is a bit of a dick. He plays Storm, after all. The fact is that a competitive, tournament mentality often is expressed as being a dick (for better or for worse).

Daryl is a fine guy, I have no issues there. Anderson was just rude, especially considering I would've likely had won anyway.

I have no issues with not being talkative during a match, I understand that people are different. My qualm with Ross was that after I put Ad Nauseam on the table, he rolled his eyes and sat there. Expecting me to just start flipping without an indication that it resolved, then just said, "Continue" as I should've been on my way already.

I don't understand why people are salty that people get salty when they lose. Like getting ruthlessly and vigorously shit on by your opponent is a fun and neat experience.

It sucks when you lose. Not everyone exudes rainbows and gumdrops when they fail.

This is fair, but losing gracefully is a very positive personality trait to have.
I suspect people who are poor losers had parents who always allowed them to win growing up. Losing is part of life. People should learn that early on.

As far as being salty at saltiness, if you lose and are an asshat about it, I'm allowed to call you an asshat. Not everyone dismisses asshattery as an acceptable part of failing.

Also, congrats on doing very well (again ).

Zach Koch here. I can say with confidence that Bryant Cook is definitely NOT a dick. I always smile a lot when I'm playing Magic (I'm having fun and that's why I play after all) but watching our feature match I can say I didn't realize I was that smiley :) I had a great time playing him. He also took his terrible mulligan/crappy Brainstorm losses like a champ.

I sure hope we get a chance to replay the matchup in NJ. Sunday morning work for you?

My opponent for the first round is a friendly guy, wearing a black T-shirt with some metal band on it, black glasses and is bald. I look at him and decide he’s probably not playing Islands, but probably Swamps of some kind. WRONG.

I totally would have guessed the same. Swamps are very metal.

Inspired me to audit my TES play a bit. I feel like your hands here are better than average, but then nobody writes a tournament report when they just do averagely. I enjoyed reading about games with less straightforward lines (LED+cantrip trickery, etc.); something you could do an article on in the future maybe.
