The above blog post was just put up by the TO. If you are planning on attending the GP, it is highly recommended that you preregister as the cap is looking to be 2000 players due to the venue size.

Can you get a refund if you pre-register and realize later you can't make it?

As long as it was cancelled in advance, I would *think* so, but best to check with Cascade Games imo.

I sent an email more than a week ago about a similar issue and still haven't heard back, so don't hold your breath ...

Edit: My questions have now been answered indirectly during the registration process.

The TO just posted on facebook about the venue choice.

https://www.facebook.com/events/1612586279004843/permalink/1622249111371893/

tl;dr is that there were 3 real options:

WA State Convention Center (where PAX is held) - incredibly expensive and booked years in advance.
Century Link Field - Booked far in advance by other events and Seahawks and Sounders game take priority.
Tacoma Convention Center - Good location (Hotel costs, public transit, decent food options).

All the other major convention centers have a capacity of about 1k.

I vote to expand capacity via pup tents.

I don't think it'll work.

This sucks. I mean I'm not going, but it sucks that a legacy GP might get capped at 2k simply for venue issues. I don't even want to know what it's going to be like that day there. It's going to be so cramped

Got confirmation from Cascade Games on fb that getting a refund if you are unable to attend an event of theirs that you preregistered for is possible. All you have to do is refund them. Here's a link to me (Sith Sriharan) asking them on fb and their response: https://www.facebook.com/events/1612586279004843/permalink/1622249111371893/

I've been to this venue a few times for regular SCG Opens and stuff so here's a word of wisdom:

If you start to get the tummy rumbles, act on it quickly. You might have to walk a block or two away to find an open stall.

You have been warned!

Sucks that we can't smash the New Jersey record but a 2,000 person GP is actually a "reasonable size" these days. Pre-register early or you may not be able to play!

By a block or two do you mean you might have to go find a business nearby that will let you use their crapper, or that the on-site bathrooms are just crazy far away?

This place is a huge multilevel maze spanning several blocks. So you can usually find a stall inside. Or a middle school dance competition. I swear, every time they have magic events there.

Who cares if it's capped? Go right now and register if you want to attend. Problem solved. Crowded hall with smelly Magic players? Quit Magic if you can't deal with it you pussy. Having to shit your pants? Man up, bring a diaper.

I'm already registered. Not too worried about the bathroom situation since I'll probably play something super janky and cap myself at 5 rounds. Maybe it's time to finally break out all those Russian Treefolk I've been collecting.

Haha I've never been there when the place was at full capacity but for SCG Opens I usually had to sneak into one of the lower levels that was "closed off" to the MTG folks in order to find an open stall. There are 2 (I think?) Men's restrooms. Just avoid using the one on the main floor and be prepared to break out your Solid Snake skillz to get past the venue staff.

I just assumed that with 2000 people, even the top secret restrooms might be destroyed. I might wear a suit just so I can waltz into the hotel across the street and use their crapper (UNDETECTED) if I have to.

Teenieboppers love Greg and have the selfies to prove it.

I'm gonna try this diaper tech for sure.

If you are pissed now how pissed are you sideline whiners going to be when people use up spots to register, get the playmat and drop?

I hope they don't steal ladies' washrooms like at East Coast GPs. I don't want to hunt to find a washroom that might be open to us. :(

That sounds exciting

Oh I think you should be fine.

And I just realized that I was getting my poop-o-meter all mixed up. I was thinking about the Lynnwood Convention Center (where SCG Opens used to be held, years ago) which legitimately only had two restrooms. The Tacoma Convention Center does have plenty of restrooms across several floors. My bad about the false alarm. Poop Freedom 4 All.

Poop Freedom 4 All.

Chipotle, double steak, double hot sauce for lunch, for all!

Says the man who went 7-2 with Zoo and got assaulted by a porta-potty at GPNJ.
