Hey guys,

my name is Johannes Gutbrod. I'm a student of german and sports and a legacy enthusiast from germany. Normally I'm a blue control mage and played/still playing Miracles for a long time. After GP Lille I thought that it should be time for a change/break as I was hooked up with AggroLoam, which my friends Niklas Kronberger and Christoph Alsheimer, whom I drove with, played with very good results. I liked that there wasn't such a big horde of players playing the deck, too. Most of all I thought that it should be very well positioned in the current metagame.
I won three weeklies in a row with the deck, and was satisfied to bring it to a large tournament to see if my gut feeling was right.

The report will be more smallish than I would want it to be, as I'm very busy atm. I hope you enjoy it nonetheless ;)

I arrived in Milano on friday with my friends Elmar, Jakob and Marius in time to play the legacy sideevent. (Not needed to say that I prefer Legacy by far over all the other formats...)

Legacy Side Friday (65 ppl - no notes taken)

This is the beauty I ended up registering:

Maindeck:

2 Barren Moor
2 Bayou
1 Dryad Arbor
1 Forest
3 Grove of the Burnwillows
1 Karakas
1 Maze of Ith
1 Savannah
1 Scrubland
1 Taiga
1 Tranquil Thicket
4 Wasteland
1 Windswept Heath
1 Wooded Foothills
4 Verdant Catacombs
1 Badlands

4 Dark Confidant
1 Gaddock Teeg
4 Knight of the Reliquary
1 Scavenging Ooze
2 Green Sun's Zenith
2 Life from the Loam
4 Abrupt Decay
3 Punishing Fire
4 Chalice of the Void
4 Mox Diamond
2 Sylvan Library
3 Liliana of the Veil

Sideboard

2 Leyline of the Void
2 Thoughtseize
2 Slaughter Games
1 Golgari Charm
1 Reclamation Sage
2 Choke
1 Containment Priest
1 Toxic Deluge
1 Thalia, Guardian of Thraben
1 Maelstrom Pulse
1 Ajani Vengeant

Onto the MUs:

RG Lands 2:1

Shardless 1:0:1

Infect 2:0

TES 0:2
(In game 1 I have a gut feeling to drop Chalice @ 0, as I was quite sure of him playing TES and thought he was tanking about maybe playing some Petals/LED. I didn't and got steamrolled by triple petal double LED and Infernal ingoring my chalice at 1 :/ G2: I mull to 4 and have two turns to rip the second land for my otherwise good hand. I don't.)

UWR Stoneblade 2:0

Miracles 2:0

We decide to split top 8 as ist late and we're all tired and hungry.

Saturday Legacy main (335 Players)

I decided to swap the Ajani for a Garruk as token-generation seemed a little more appealing and he might be a bit more flexible overall. Containment Priest was never boarded so I changed him for a second Thalia (she was very good).

Round 1: Omnishow 2:0
G1: 2 Waste on Volcs slow him down enough that I can beat him down, while he's screwed.
G2: T1 Seize, T2 Slaughter Games :D NUTS

Round 2: Grixis Delver 2:0
G1: Dyrad + Loam keep big fish at bay. Later draw into Knight ftw. Long drawn out game.
G2: I decide right to go for Choke first and take some more beats, which gets forced, and enables Liliana out of piercerange next round. I wastelock him out of the game.

Round 3: 4c Delver
G1: TNN races me and I don't find a second black for the Lili I am holding.
G2: Chalice and Knight take him out of the game fast.
G3: This is a long drawn out game. Library and Confi (died) help for some incremental advantage and in the end I can finally overhelm in in extra turns. Overthought a line to play around a stifle he never had and got my Ooze decayed.

Round 4: Burn 2:0
G1: I manage to fizzle a Searing Blood with holding back Knight to Karakas Gaddock. Waste myself down to 2 nonbasics and win on 4 life, very close.
G2: T1 Chalice, T2 Thalia.

Round 5: Mishras-Bauble Burn (ultrafast Burn with Swiftspear and Bauble) 2:0
G1: I race him with double Knight against 2 Swiftspear and 1 Eidolon
G2: Chalice and Thalia halp fight. In the ultimate turn I decide to Play safe and tutor for Gaddock to play around the possibilty of Price + Blast + topdeck land (which he all did/had).

Round 6: ANT 2:0
G1: Because of scouting I know he is on ANT. T1 Zentih for Gaddock :D NUTS
G2: He keeps a hand just needing IMS for a kill and has two topdecks. He doesn't and I land Thalia, afterwards Confi + Teeg.

Round 7: Goblins 1:1
G1 : He floods the board with creatures and topdecked 2 Ringleaders when they were very good :/
G2: I play around 2 Blood Moons, holding back my threats and flooding BG in response to enable once Decay and the other time Charm. We fight back and forth and the game gets really exciting. I get low on life and he starts Tarfiring me to 1. I dredge in my upkeep Loam to see a fresh library. I have approx 5-7 cards I could see to draw my out (beacuse of Cycle lands + Loam). I find the Ooze I calculated my outs for.

Round 8 Miracle 2:0
G1: Chalice gets forced. Teeg survives.
G2: I have a lot of threats and he can't answer all... 2 Chalice, Teeg, Confi, Thalia etc.

Round 9: I.D.

Quarters Merfolk 2:1 (We split, as we both hate to play a luckbased best of three for around 1000€)
G1: He's screwed horribly.
G2: I control the board with Fire engine + Decay holding Garruk. I get greedy with my Confidant and have to Golgari Charm two Cursecatcher away. I proceed to loose to TNN.
G3: I seize away an important Standstill. Can make some good trades e.g. Fire away his manland when he's relatively low on lands.

Top 4 Split, I want to play for glory :D

Semis Miracles 1:2
G1: Chalice 1 + Gaddock. He scoops.
G2: Long drawn out. I decide holding a 5th or 6th land is for Liliana is more important to keep Decay open one round. He finds Mentor and makes 3 tokens instead of maybe 1 or 2. Wouldn't have mattered though.
G3: My deck decides to be a bad rock deck and refuses me any angines while he draws a lot of gas and ultimately grinds me out with top and fetchlands. Sad end but nevertheless happy.

Sunday I went 7:2 in Modern with Jund. Missed top 16 on breakers. Legacy is much better for sure imo :) :)
