Tainted Remedy

I don't know about you, but I missed this guy over the summer. I was quite disappointed when I started legacy and was looking for Lifelink hosers that there really weren't any despite BSK and Griselbrand being obnoxious (Rain of Gore doesn't work.) [Yes Sulfuric Vortex and such work, but you're still getting beaten over the head with difficult permanents or losing to Tendrils]

It's probably a bit mediocre still, but I may try it in an E-Tutor sideboard since it beats Tendrils of Agony (they'll kill themselves before you lose in almost all circumstances) Griselbrand (same thing since they can't block or they'll lose 7) and BSK (becomes a Flesh Reaver but as a static ability.) Any of you who are tired of TNN with a BSK attached killing you can use this to screw them.

Best of all? It's one-sided, so you can still BSK, Jitte, DRS, etc..

It looks super narrow, but hitting Storm's more dangerous win condition, GBrand, and BSK covers a lot of obnoxious win cons IMO.

Atarka's Command and Skullcrack are somewhat popular in other formats.

The problem with Tainted Remedy is that it doesn't do anything by itself, and it's not so easy to get into play before combo goes off.

My thinking is that the "False Cure" affect is potentially relevant. Since I normally am on Junk or Esper I also thought of the implications of Swords to plowshares. Imagine nabbing a Goyf or Griselbrand with that!

It may well be garbage; but I'd point out that it sort of *does* do something on its own. It's a meddling mage on Tendrils (because they'll die), it basically destroys Griselbrand (and all future Griselbrands), and it basically acts like a maelstrom pulse on batterskull. They won't be blocking with it unless you're larger than a 4/x or they desperately require board presence (because they'll take 4 for blocking anything smaller than a 4/x; thus lose ground.)

I think it's better than it looks anyway; though I'd un-surprised if I was incorrect on it. As a 1-of in an E-Tutor board, we'll see if it comes up. But I'll point out again that Griselbrand basically can't block with this out either, or they'll lose 7. They can't afford to draw 7 because they can't block or attack or they'll die. It's a rare thing when Reanimator or SneakShow are higher life than their opponents (until they're about to win)

Well, I didn't miss it. You're free to try it, but this is not the card to lean on against Storm or Griselbrand decks. Storm is likely to either kill you before you play it or just bounce it or Decay it and then Tendrils you. Also, Empty the Warrens sidesteps it. Griselbrand decks are usually way faster than a 3-mana enchantment. Maybe it would work against Batterskull (and a Flesh Reaver might still be good enough to win), but I honestly would rather have an Oblivion Ring there, since it's at least flexible enough to be relevant in other matchups. The Swords to Plowshares interaction is sweet, but I can't think of many instances where it would be beneficial to sit on Swords until you play Tainted Remedy. Just seems worse than other Enlightened Tutor targets unless you're building a deck around it, a la The Cure.

EDIT: Thoughtseize or Duress are probably better sideboard options in all of those matchups.

Just to be clear, Punishing Fire and Kavu Predator combo great with everything else in this list, but they don't work with Tainted Remedy, because it's a replacement effect. False Cure, on the other hand, works just fine.

I almost said the same thing.

But.. Wall of Shards as a win condition seems hilarious, at least for casual.
I'll still probably try a 1-of with tutor as it seems alright on paper (and it's always entertaining when someone reaches across the table with that [wtf] look)
