I was looking for a bigger games as my current local place was stuck having 8-10 players, and sometimes not even running legacy at all (lack of players). I ended up at the other side of the city for Legacy FNM that had more cutthroat Magic players. There were 21 of us for this FNM event.

I ran my usual 75.

Round 1: I win the die roll (11 vs 10) and go on play.

Game 1: I mull to five, getting lackluster or no land hands. I'm surprised to see that he joins me down to five, and even takes one more down to four. I have Lodestone Golem and four lands to keep, and a Trinisphere on top. He bottoms his scry. My second turn Trinisphere got Spell Pierced. He gets an SFM on his second turn to Batterskull. I get a Lodestone in that got Sworded. He gets a Jace in a little after and Brainstorms. I get down to 13. I topdecked an Ugin, him not having a counterspell. I exile for 4, which becomes overextending later as he plays TNN next turn and forcing me to exile for 3 and Ugin hitting the yard. I should have only exiled for 2 and bolted Jace for a quicker Ugin ultimate and more resilience. He bounces Batterskull a turn after and plays his fifth land to replay Batterskull during his turn. I force down a Blighsteel Colossus without Cavern with 3 Cloudposts and a Glimmerpost out. He draws his FoW one turn too late.
(1-0)

I commented on how I saw a Wasteland and four colors (all, but red) and he admitted that he was being a little too greedy.

SB: -3 Trinisphere, -1 Lightning Greaves, -1 Spine of Ish Sah
+1 Coercive Portal, +1 Batterskull, +1 Karn, +1 Ugin, +1 Ratchet Bomb
I added the Ratchet Bomb in seeing nothing that I want for that slot, but a TNN removal.

Game 2: I mull to six and he joins me again. We both keep our hands and our scrys. He doesn't have anything first turn so I'm skeptical of Spell Pierce. I play a Tomb and skip Chalice. On his turn, he taps out and plays SFM, fail to find Batterskull (which is in his hand). I Glimmerpost and Chalice for 1, which resolves. I had mostly lands and was on topdeck mode again, getting Metalworker, Kuldotha Forgemaster, and Lodestone Golem later on. I played board control holding back my creatures, he does with his Batterskull as well. I eventually resolve a Grim Monolith and knows he can't stop my fetch for Sundering Titan (due to Chalice at 1). He reveals two DRS and two Brainstorms after. He concluded that Chalice is such a good card.
1-0 (2-0)

Props: Ugin, resolving robots without Cavern
Flops: misplaying Ugin, lucky that it doesn't cost the game.

Round 2: I am feeling good thinking that I would be playing against RUG, as I've been training at my local place and know the RUG match up pretty well. But this one ended up completely different. I lose the die roll (6 v 5) and I'm on draw.

Game 1: He keeps his seven and I mull to six. I keep a two lander Cloudpost, Vesuva hand, which is very risky, but, from my experience, mulling down to five easily gets worst. I get my Cloudpost Wasted and find myself in a pickle, but my next three cards were lands, phew. Most of my stuff gets removal until I get a Chalice in. I was surprised to see a Snapcaster Mage (and two more after, so I guess he was playing UR and not RUG) I resolve Metalworker. He gets up to three Snapcasters and gets me to 8. I cast Lodestone and Spine the same turn, getting Lodestone FoWed. All I remember from here is going down to 2, but resolving a Lodestone Golem so I have two blockers for the two Snapcasters. A little after that, I resolve a Staff of Nin and start pinging his Snapcasters. A Blightsteel a little after, which was stuck in my hand since the beginning, and it was game.
(3-0)

The Chalice on 1 definitely stopped his Snapcasters from casting extra spells, but he tried anyways, so I just point at my Chalice and say countered. Don't forget your triggers!

I don't know what to expect from UR as I've only seen Snapcasters and a bunch of 1cc spells. And I wasn't quite sure if he had green for Ancient Grudge or Krosan Grip.

SB: -2 Lightning Greaves, -1 Spine of Ish Sah, -1 Blightsteel Colossus
+1 Coercive Portal, +1 Batterskull, +1 Karn, +1 Ugin

Game 2: I mull to six and keep a three lander. I see a Grim Lavamancer from him. I play Grim Monolith into Trinisphere which resolves. He plays Wastes my Tomb and I Glimmerpost for the next three of four turns. He adds Mishra's Factory to increase his clock and bolts me when he can. I untap my Monolith when I got the chance to and cast Lodestone Golem on my turn. I get down to seven when he Bolts my Lodestone and swing with the Lavamancer and Mishra's Factory. He was tapped down to two lands, so I play my Ugin, which he can't counter due to Trinisphere. Ugin pretty much wins the game from there as he extends his hand before the turn I can ultimate Ugin.
2-0 (4-0)

Props: Ugin(again), Trinisphere, Chalice of the Void, crazy topdecks (this is MUD after all)
Flops: Keeping a 2 lander and getting one Wasted

Round 3: My guess was I would be playing either Lands or DnT, and DnT it turned out to be. I win the die roll and go on play.

Game 1: A first turn Trinisphere delays him a little. The game drags out to extreme late game as we're at a stalemate early game and mid game. He has Batterskull but I have Lodestone and Forgemaster. I eventually had to fetch for Myr Battlesphere, sacrificing Trinisphere, to get more artifacts in as my lands were hampered by two Wastelands and a Port. I fetched for a Platinum Emperion after, without Chalice or Trinisphere protection as he had fliers and all 3 equipments in the field. He didn't have Sword for my Emperion so I followed it up with Blightsteel and an eventually drew Chalice which I set to 1. He doesn't draw a Flickerwisp, his only out. After five turns of Blightsteel attacks, he's out. What can I say, that was two (just one really) robots vs six creatures with equipments.
(5-0)

SB: -4 Chalice of the Void, -1 Lightning Greaves, -1 Spine of Ish Sah, -1 Blightsteel Colossus
+4 Pithing Needle, +1 Coercive Portal, +1 Batterskull, +1 Ugin

Game 2: I mull to six and keep. He locks me out and has Batterskull to kill me. The only play I had was a first turn Trinisphere which probably hurt me more than him.
(5-1)

SB: -3 Trinisphere, -1 Sundering Titan
+3 Chalice of the Void, +1 Blightsteel Colossus

Game 3: I mull to five with Cloudpost and Vesuva. I don't remember my scry that I put in the bottom. He has a first turn Vial, (as well as second and third.) But I have Pithing Needle for the Vial turn 2. He Flickers my Needle on turn four to get SFM and another Flickerwisp in through Vial. I name SFM with Needle when it returns, he flickers my Cloudpost. I was eating Swords to Plowshares with my Metalworker, Lodestone Golem, and Steel Hellkite. When he was at his 3rd Sword, I'm pretty sure a 4th would mean that he deserves that win by his luck. He lets my Forgemaster survive so I figured he doesn't have it. I also get a Coercive Portal in and plan to go into late game, but time runs out and we are on our five turns, so I have to think of a faster win. Him drawing a Flickerwisp or him 4th Sword can win him the game so I pretty much had to win as soon as I can. I fetch a Blightsteel Colossus on his end of turn. My plan was to fetch for Batterskull and equip the Blightsteel during my turn for a lot of lifegain and the poison setting him to a two turn clock. I topdeck Ugin but don't have enough mana to cast him. I Forgemaster for a Grim Monolith (instead of my planned Batterskull) putting Metalworker and Coercive Portal away to cast Ugin. Exile all his creatures to swing freely with Blightsteel. I didn't see the 4th Sword so an extended hand it is. Phew.
3-0(6-1)

Props: Kuldotha Forgemaster, Platinum Emperion, Blightsteel Colossus!, and Myr Battlesphere. On his side, Phyrexian Revoker, Wasteland, and Rishadan Port (all three being very strong against MUD)
Flops: There was one misplay where I Forged for the Platinum Emperion on his EoT, which should have been on my turn. It would have let me cast Grim Monolith into a second Trinisphere (after saccing the first one to Forgemaster). It would have increased my artifact count and definitely increased my win rate.

Round 4: Burn. There was a Jace on the line so he doesn't want to tie and feel good about this match-up. I feel good about it too. He wins the die roll (11 vs 4).

Game 1: We both mull to six and keep our hands and scry. He gets there with Goblin Guide, Eidolon and Price of Progress, for 8 while I'm at 7. I screwed up my math as I thought he had Fireblast. My right play would have been Metalworker with Greaves instead of playing the fourth land for a Forgemaster.
(6-2)

SB: -2 Lightning Greaves, -1 Myr Battlesphere, -1 Ugin
+1 Thorn of Amethyst, +1 Trinisphere, +1 Batterskull, +1 Karn

Game 2: First turn Cloudpost, second turn Vesuva and Grim Monolith give me a third turn Karn. I start with his hand. He gets a Vortex out. My fourth turn was a Lodestone and start exiling his lands. My life didn't go low enough for me to exile the Vortex so I let him keep it on the field. He eventually can't cast spells and die to his own Vortex and my Lodestone.
(7-2)

SB: -1 Myr Battlesphere, -1 Staff of Nin
+2 Lightning Greaves

Game 3: Was the most horrible as I mull to three without a land, having my mulls not giving me more than one either. That's Magic for you, and I pretty much said goodbye to the Jace on the line. I scry and if I didn't see a land, would auto scoop. I see a City of Traitors and keep it. First turn City into Monolith. He doesn't have Smash. Second turn Forgemaster. He keeps burning me and attacking with a Goblin Guide, which I don't block but still doesn't see Smash. I get a Lightning Greaves and a land to play Trinisphere after. He would have the game but decided to enter combat before playing a land. He attacks with Goblin Guide and Eidolon while I'm at 3. I activated my Forgemaster, which he doesn't stop. I look through my library and sort my outs, being Batterskull, Wurmcoil, or Platinum Emperion. I was staring at Patinum Emperion for a while, but decided to be a bit more risky and take the Wurmcoil, knowing he can't play anything and him getting a Smash to Smithereens doesn't mean I'm out. If he had three lands, it would have been a Platinum Emperion for sure. Before I block he tries to play Fireblast on me, but I point at the Trinisphere. We eventually called a judge, and he keeps his Fireblast in hand. I lifelink the game away with a Wasteland, Wurmcoil, and Trinisphere being the only cards in my field.
4-0(8-2)

Props: Karn, Wurmcoil, Kuldotha Forgemaster, Lodestone Golem, Trinisphere
Flops: play mistake game 1, mull to 3 game 3

I get a Jace, the Mind Sculptor to reward me for my miracle mull to 3 win and a double high five from one of the workers there!

Grats on your results and thank you for writing the report.
4x Pithing Needle? Wow.
Wouldn't you want more Karn and Ugin somehwere in the 75? Ir ar least 2 Ugin main?

Props: Kuldotha Forgemaster, Platinum Emperion (turning off equipment combat damage as well)...

Jitte and swords still trigger with an emperion out, you receive damage, just doesn't lose life.

Congrats for the result! :)

@4 Pithing Needles, the good and the bad:
I play a lot against Lands and DnT in my local meta. 2 Needles weren't enough.
Lands normally side in 4 Krosan Grips and 1 Pithing Needle vs MUD, for me that means matching their hate just as much.
DnT can easily stop Revokers through various removals, so I ended up preferring 4 Needles.
Needles also apply to the Retreating Reliquary match, where they can also get rid of Revoker through Swords to Plowshares.
I have less hate vs Storm as I can't stop Petal or LED, where Revoker can stop those.
I'm sure there are a lot more 'bad' things but I preferred the switch.

@2 Ugins main:
I used to have 2 Ugins main, but wanted more tools instead. I usually see lists having the 2nd Ugin over Greaves, Steel Hellkite, or a Staff MD for it.
I also used to have 2 Karns in the SB, but switched the second to a Batterskull after the Dig ban. I was seeing less control decks and more tempo, so it felt right to make the switch.

Thank you for pointing this interaction out. I wonder how that game would have ended up.

Congratz on the result!

Main issue seems to me that you're trying to resolve a Chalice ASAP. That could conflict with the needles I guess?

Next to that, I was playing a guy on Lands the other day and resolved a Needle calling "Thespian's Stage" and I won that game. Afterwards he told me that he was just one mana short to use the Thespian to copy another land that overrides the Needle! That was completely new for me...

@ the Chalice conflict, that's not the issue at all. The main game plan RG Lands have against us is to Wastelock us first before trying to combo. I like being able to draw enough hate to stop their hate and their combo.

Yes, they can respond to our Needle by activating Stage to copy something else and be able to keep that ability still.

If they do that just name the land they copied.

The other Stage would still be unaffected, or the same if he can waste it then loam it back.
