In efforts to find a shell for a card that I think has potential, Myth Realized, I started brewing this number:
3 Myth Realized
1 Snapcaster Mage
4 Brainstorm
2 Ponder
3 Gitaxian Probe
4 Swords to Plowshares
1 Darkblast
2 Spell Pierce
1 Counterspell
1 Zealous Persecution
3 Cabal Therapy
1 Quiet Speculation
2 Lingering Souls
1 Painful Truths
1 Toxic Deluge
4 Force of Will
1 Umezawa’s Jitte
2 Humility
1 Gideon, Ally of Zendikar
1 Elspeth, Knight-Errant
1 Karakas
1 Creeping Tar Pit
2 Mishra’s Factory
4 Flooded Strand
2 Polluted Delta
3 Marsh Flats
2 Tundra
2 Underground Sea
1 Scrubland
2 Plains
1 Island
1 Swamp
// sideboard //
1 Flusterstorm
1 Envelop
1 Pithing Needle
1 Surgical Extraction
1 Purify the Grave
3 Meddling Mage
1 Ethersworn Canonist
1 Disenchant
1 Zealous Persecution
1 Council's Judgment
1 Humility
1 Batterskull
1 Misdirection
Play an early Myth Realized; control the board/hand; land Humility and/or a planeswalker; break parity with tokens, activated creatures and Umezawa's Jitte. There are 61 cards in the maindeck right now, which I could probably get away with because of the three Gitaxian Probes, but ideally I'd shave a card.
If I understand the way the timestamping works with Humility, my manlands, Myths and Gideon, Ally of Zendikar all maintain their stats.
Some spice that I'd like to try is a flashback package with 3 Therapies and 2 Lingering Souls that can be found with a singleton Quiet Speculation. I figure it's basically a 3-for-1, considering I want to play those cards anyways. I don't want to go all-in on it, though, seeing as people may bring in graveyard hate.
What I like about a Humility deck like this is that it's not dead to combo in game 1 because of the three maindeck copies of Cabal Therapy and the permission suite. Of course the sideboard improves my odds games 2 and 3, as I'd board out the Humilities and removal for the hate bears and other anti-combo cards against Storm, for example.
I worry that it's a little threat light, but I think I have enough removal to make it work. And the deck's soft to hand disruption, seeing as my business spells are :4:-drops.
Cards I'm considering:
- Jace, the Mind Sculptor. I opted not to play him in the first draft because I have some card advantage with Quiet Speculation and Painful Truths, and I don't want to tap out for a :4:-drop susceptible to Pyroblast. But man, it's Jace!
- Engineered Explosives and/or Supreme Verdict. Sweepers suit the deck. EE is pretty fast, and I don't commit many low CMC to the board except Myth (and tokens, but that is later in the game). SupV is blue, but it costs :4:, which is why I went with Toxic Deluge as my wrath of choice. Plus, if I land Humility, I'd only have to pay 1 life.
- Kjeldoran Outpost. Yes, Wasteland is a card. But it's tough to beat a 1/1 every turn with Humility on the board.
- Deep Analysis. A nice target for Quiet Speculation and more card advantage. :4::u::u: + 3 life is a steep price to pay for four cards, but it's split up as two spells, which helps fuel Myth.
- Timely Reinforcements. Perhaps I cut the third Humility for this in the board. Great insurance against burn and aggro strategies.
I'd love some feedback on this. Thanks, y'all!
EDIT: I probably can't play Counterspell, given my white-skewed manabase. Since I have 61 cards in the main right now, do you think I have enough permission between the Spell Pierces and Force of Wills to just cut the CSpell?
