Hey Guys, I'm looking to play Legacy in Denver. I live downtown and work in Littleton.
I've try to play at Collectormania (Monday) and Black Gold (Sunday) as they list Legacy on those days but rarely do they fire. No one has posted on https://www.facebook.com/frontrangelegacy since last summer. Are people not into it right now because there are no big tournaments coming up? are any shops planning or willing to put on a big tournament?
I'd like to play weekly.
Thanks

There is a Boulder Legacy group at https://www.facebook.com/groups/1661093107471286/ and they have events every Monday that have been firing.
I think everything died off because at one point we had a different store trying to run Legacy every night of the week and it really split the player base up. At this point, with a single Boulder event doing well, it may be time to try and get Denver events going again, I just haven't personally been that motivated to do anything about it. Trying for a weeknight might be the way to go, but the problem in Denver is that we've got players from Broomfield all they way to Highlands Ranch and there just isn't a location that won't be a 30min+ commute at rush hour for someone.
I'm generally down for Sundays at Black Gold if you want to try and rally the troops to go. We'll have a better chance if we wait until after football is done though.
Oh yeah, welcome to town!

The best place to stay in touch is through "Front Range Legacy" on facebook. That will connect you will all events available and also get you in touch with somebody that knows what is going on. Good luck!

Collectormania was firing pretty consistently until the holiday season threw a wrench into things. We have a core group that is usually there, I hope to get it back up and firing again starting next week (yesterday was bad due to holiday weekend).
EDIT: PM me if you need any additional info.

I think Sunday is a great day for Legacy. Our player base is largely made up of MOnday-Friday workers. Football season definitely throws this off, but that will soon be over. I'd be willing to drive pretty much anywhere in the metro area on a Sunday for a consistent Legacy showing.

Crap I didn't even know about this place! I thought All C's was where the Monday events went after Denver Central. I wonder if it would now make sense to try and get a weeknight event going at somewhere like Game Heroes. It would complete the "Orion's Belt" of Denver-area Legacy.
@Hobart: I personally like Sunday too. One problem with weekend events though is that there are so many game stores now, there's practically always something else going on that we have to compete for players with. IQs, GPTs, Pre-releases, and so on are all competing with each other already.
I would make the trek to Game Heroes for legacy now and then. They used to try to do it on Tuesday nights, but didn't get the attendance.
That said - they just changed their prize payout and store credit policy: store credit can no longer be used for entry into events. Awwwwful.

What? That's super weird. Isn't the whole point of store credit that you don't have to bother with money transactions when you're running late?

I'm looking to get back into regularly playing paper magic too so please post when things get going. I would prefer to avoid Denver Central Games and All C's if it all possible. Collectormania would be sweet for me in Aurora but it's pretty far out for a lot people.

Yeah it moved from All C's to Collectormania several months ago. Collector is an awesome store, the one issue is it's the opposite of centrally located. If you're on the east side of town it's pretty easy to get to because of Parker Road though.

Come to Collector's next Monday. We're currently trying to get the word out to get our turnout back up (it had cratered during the holidays).

I will make it back to Collectorsmania next Monday (1-25-2016). Can someone post an update on the facebook page? I don't have a facebook but seems like we need to make a push to get them to fire again.
Glad I made this post, I was going to pack my cards back up but seems like there are the players out there just not organized. If there were events at Game Heroes that would be awesome, I played at the pre-release there this past weekend, the store was nice and close(r) to me. And Black Gold is near my office. But if we can get one event to fire consistently I would be happy.
Thanks.

I want more comics has a legacy FNM the second Friday of every month. The guy that runs the magic events page is a bit hostile towards stores posting FNM events in the page even if they are a little different than the norm so they don't get as much advertising unless Richard Cheese posts it for them. I suppose one of the other regular players up there could post it too.
Gamers Guild on Monday (Boulder) has been really successful for anyone in the north side of Denver.
I'm all for not supporting GH as much as I used to. Their new policies are not as inviting as they used to be and my loyalty lies in a few other stores that GH has not been a friendly competitor with.

What do they do? Having a policy against free-rolling isn't bad, a store has to have cash coming in to keep the lights on.

There was a lot of drama between them and I Want More Comics. IWMC basically accused them of running tournaments at a loss and purposefully scheduling events to overlap those of nearby stores to steal business. Apparently the owner outright admitted this to the owner of IWMC.
Shitty I guess, but that's just business I suppose. I haven't actually been to GH yet, but I haven't heard anything negative from people that play there fairly regularly.
I actually like GH a lot, and they have good prices on singles usually too. The crowd that plays there are generally pretty good people - both in skill as well as in not assholes. I just have a hard time with the half hour or so drive there to not be able to spend my credit on entry. I don't need singles... I just want to play.

Yeah that was pretty good, we had some people new to legacy too which is cool. If I remember correctly we had:
Miracles
2x Shardless
Dredge
RUG Delver
BUG Delver
UR Delver
Storm
MUD
Reanimator
Elves
Pretty diverse decks, I know my deck improved within 10 minutes of getting home, looking forward to next week.

We didn't think it was going to fire and then boom 5 people show up at 7. I think as long as we consistently fire it will get people to come. I thought there was an elves deck last night?

I think the Elves deck was involved in playtesting not the actual event, but I could be wrong. Yeah, I think the IWMC event is this Friday, although I haven't been able to make one of those events in many months so I'm not 100% sure.

It is this Friday, fires around 6:30 if you're close to on time give them a call and they can usually stall for a couple minutes, great thing about the legacy crowd is they just want to play legacy they're pretty chill.

We had a great showing of 20 people at last Friday's FNM at I want more Comics. This was a great number, and it was with several regulars not in attendance. I think we are seeing another uptick in Legacy right now since people are leaving Modern, and I expect we'll see even more interest with the upcoming Eternal Masters. I'd like to propose that we harness this growth and attempt to get Sundays at IWMC going again! I'm sure there are many like me, who work weekdays, who have a family, and don't feel like schlepping around town after a workday to play cards until late in the evening. The weekends are a solution to this problem, especially with football season over. IWMC is a somewhat centralized location (Northglenn), and it's close to I-25. I'll talk with the owners, and maybe after lots of arm pulling I can get him to post something on the goddamn facebook page.

Save yourself the trouble and just post it for them if you want to see anything more than 4 hours before the event.
Also FWIW Black Gold is still sanctioning Legacy every Sunday. Now that football season is over there's a good chance we could put together enough folks to make that fire. It's quite a bit further south and not really close to an interstate though.

I'm pretty much out for weekend days for weekly legacy events these days. maybe every once in a while... but my weekends are too valuable.
personally, i'd rather see them see if they could try to run the larger legacy events like an IQ or something like they did a couple years ago. The first one of those we had almost 70 people.

+1 for regular big events. I'm not even sure they need to be associated with SCG or any other big body to be successful, although Keith seemed to think it was important. It also meant that they had to get over 50 players to break even, and the last couple were either under that or just barely over. I would be down for just a quarterly event for store credit at $20+ entry. I thought the guy at Mirage games said he was going to do exactly that, but I'm not sure what happened there.

A big event would do wonders. We just now have had a consistent weekly (4 or 5 in a row) which is great, with the EMA announcement and everyone getting sick of Eldrazi in Modern (although I think Eldrazi is good in Legacy, it will never be even 20% of the field) there is a lot of buzz around Legacy, now might be the time to run such an event.

I'm glad I saw this thread - I am also an Eternal player in Littleton looking for a fix!
I've chatted with the owner of the new Littleton location of Enchanted Grounds, and he'd be completely up for hosting tournaments if there is interest. That would mean us Southsiders would not have to haul all the way up to IWMC during rush hour to play. I was thinking Vintage -- no one seems to do weekly Vintage since Carl sold Black Gold -- but Legacy is fine, too.
If you guys want a supplementary south side location, let's exchange e-mail address and see if we can get something down here to fire on a regular basis. I miss my weekly eternal. :(

The problem for me (and most of us on the East side of town) is it takes me nearly as long to get to Littleton in rush hour as it does to get to IWMC. E470 westbound is a parking lot from 3:00 onwards. As a result anything west of I-25 is going to be weekend only for me.

Ah, you got seduced by the promise of big, newly constructed townhomes or massive single family dwellings on the plains, eh?
It would be sweet if something consistent can be set up that's more middle of the week, I know myself and other players stuck in Fort Collins would love to come down and play some legacy against a more robust metagame (I swear our meta is a complete shit-show with 2 Death and Taxes, 2 Elves, Miracles, Slivers, Turbo-marit lage, and Tezz/Mud/Stompy variants), it gets really old and sideboards become hilariously awful.

By middle of the week do you mean weekend? Or is it actually convenient for you guys to drive up on a Wednesday/Thursday?
It varies, I know Tuesday-Thursday nothing happens around here, Saturday people are always playing in some kind of GPT/IQ/PPTQ, but Sunday is usually pretty dry outside of the occasional Sunday IQ. I just know Mondays and Fridays people would rather just go to Gryphon's because we can fire Legacy pretty reliably, or be content with playing modern since only a couple of people decided to build the Eldrazi menace.
And as far as driving up in the middle of the week I know a lot of people have days off in the middle of the week or get off early enough to drive down to Denver and avoid the worst of I-25 traffic. Hell I know people are willing to go up to Larimie once or twice a month to play Legacy up there on Tuesdays.

I'd play Magic at IKEA. Once, for the novelty. Remember, though, that playing there is almost like playing in a high school lunch room - lots of strangers coming by to drop meatballs on your dual lands.
Isn't there a store or bar or cigar room somewhere in that area that would be better suited? Tech center is a great location...

Black Gold is a solid 20 minutes from there and that's assuming no traffic. Ikea is right on I25 so it's pretty centrally located whereas Black Gold is quite far west (Wadsworth).

They do, but it's a far cry from what it used to be. Carl did sanctioned Vintage weekly, which was AWESOME. The new owner changed that to Legacy, and then to Modern. Legacy still fires there sometimes, from what I understand, but not weekly anymore.
I've been trying to get a weekly sanctioned Vintage revived for some time, now. Advantages include:
1. Sanctioning prevents people from netdecking because very few are fully powered;
2. Vintage archetypes are fun as balls even without power; and
3. Rogue decks are amazing and show up all the time.

That too, but for us in Littleton Black Gold was awesome.
I'm having trouble keeping track; how many South side players versus Littleton players are on here?
Glad I found this thread! I'm just getting back into paper magic after a few years online and I'd been looking for some place to play legacy. I live in southeast Denver, so Collectormania looks like a bit of a hike, but at least it's pretty much straight down Parker road from me and closer than Gamer's Guild (I work downtown). Are events regularly firing on Monday nights?

Glad I found this thread! I'm just getting back into paper magic after a few years online and I'd been looking for some place to play legacy. I live in southeast Denver, so Collectormania looks like a bit of a hike, but at least it's pretty much straight down Parker road from me and closer than Gamer's Guild (I work downtown). Are events regularly firing on Monday nights?
Yeah we've had them fire 3 rounds with 8-12 people the last 5+ weeks. Come on down, the more the merrier, Parker is far but not that bad because the road goes right there.

I know boulder is a hike away, but gamer's guild had 18 last Monday.

I'll just be out here in Golden explaining the difference between Vintage and Legacy to college students and trying to find a game of anything besides EDH...(;_;)

Littleton's just a stone's throw away, comparatively...
Really, we should absolutely get some Vintage and/or Legacy going on the West side. And not up on the way to Boulder on the crazy turnpike. Anyone who might be interested, PM me your e-mails and I'll add you to my list of possible Vintage folks and try to get something going down here again.

Yeah...that's 45min with no traffic if I leave straight from work. If it's just 4 rounds, I'm still looking at making the hour-long trip home at ~10:30?
Black Gold or Game Heroes I could probably do during the week, but I'm not sure there are enough people in the West/Central area to make that realistic.
Just throwing it out there... we had 5 rounds at Gamer's Guild this past Monday. :)

Would they run a larger tournament on a weekend?
I'd happily drive to Boulder from Denver on a weekend but weekdays I'm too far South and Mondays we play at Collectormania.
Can always ask! I'm sure the prizes would be store credit though.
A few guys from down South came up one time for a Monday event (Tyler for one, but I can't remember the others)

So toss your hat in the ring. Let me circulate another e-mail to BG or EG or whatever with a list of people who are interested. I mean, between you and me, we have TWO PEOPLE.
THATS ONE FOURTH OF A TOP 8.

Count me in for Legacy. I would probably not show up to Vintage on any kind of regular basis.
Are the Boulder events sanctioned? I don't see them on mtgfinder, which I think just pulls directly from the WotC event finder.

I've done some pretty awful google searches but I can't find any GPT Columbus events in the area. Anybody know of some or know where to find a list of them in Colorado?

They have a GPT list on r/mtglegacy going here: https://www.reddit.com/r/MTGLegacy/comments/4ed16w/grand_prix_megathread/ unfortunately there is no Colorado events listed...

A Legacy IQ has been scheduled for June after the GP at Black Gold, keeping my eyes peeled for Legacy GPTs.

I'll be in Denver for a conference between Sunday June 26 and Wednesday June 29. Are there any local legacy tournaments that are easy enough to get to from downtown Denver via a cab ride? I'd love to play some mtg while I'm in the area.
Thanks!

Sunday and Wednesday? That's a tough nugget. Most places I know of that do Legacy run it on Saturday.
Of course, if people have enough interest, a little Tuesday legacy at a bar downtown would be hoot.
Otherwise, I think Wizard's Chest (on Broadway) is your best bet from downtown. They do open Magic play at 5:00pm on Monday, and they generally have a pretty decent group. I used to go there for draft a lot.

What places run Legacy on Saturday? I'm only aware of Monday night at Collectermania in Parker and Gamer Guild in Boulder.

AFAIK it's been on their schedule for a while, but it rarely fires. Maybe we can coordinate a day to get a few people down there.

I'm in for Sunday Legacy, IQ is scheduled at Black Gold for the 26th, maybe that will jump start it?

Wow the IQ had 51 people, impressive turn out. People at the tournament said that the Black Gold Sunday weekly has been firing for the past month as well as All C's started a Thursday night Legacy weekly that fired last week, hopefully we can keep this momentum going and get another larger tournament scheduled soon to keep peoples interest.

Yeah I'm down to hit up BG on Sundays. Probably not every week, but hopefully often enough to keep it firing. Also hoping that without 60 people inside it's not 300 degrees in that store.

Was looking to get back into legacy, after being away from the game for 2 years, and selling most of my collection. I heard BG does legacy on sundays, with 15 proxies allowed? Sounds good for getting back into the game without blowing my whole paycheck at one time on staples!
Hope to see you guys around.

Looking some of these places up and looking at some maps, are any of these places even remotely accessible by rail and/or bus? I'm going to be in town from the 30th to November 6th and staying somewhere in the Cdpital Hill area.
technically yes... but more on the "remotely" side of your question. :(

Oh pissposh. Those places are only an hour or two away from Denver. That's a day trip worth doing if you're gonna go hiking or something after you are done nerding out.
