Source Tournament #3: Dual Jam
Poll Closed. Link to tournament below this line.
This whole line of text is a link to the tournament. (http://www.mtgthesource.com/forums/showthread.php?30541-Source-Tournament-3-Dual-Jam-2k16)
Last we spoke, I said I wouldn't do another one because of this that and the other thing. Well, I'm back, and fuck that previous statement. We're doing another one. Pretty straightforward. Below is a lowdown of what I anticipate it looking like. If you dig it, say so in the poll. If you don't dig it, say so in the poll. If you think it's "okaaaay, but..." say it in the poll and say it in the thread.

I like it, buuut.. I liked the double elimination structure if the 1st jelly(TM) more (I kinda dislike the timing constraints that a swiss format brings)

I like it buuut... I think it should be set up as a league, with a regular season's schedule drawn up so players can plan their own time themselves. Then a top 8 playoff or whatever. This way you set the number of rounds, and it's more predictable.

I play on cockatrice all the time, and I love competitive Legacy. I'll be there.
I should think that an advantage of playing on cockatrice is that you can change your deck from doing to round. If you are playing a season, I would be interested in seeing such an idea. But that is different from what jelly is taking about here.

I will definitely participate again. I'm with crush in that I'd prefer double elimination as well over swiss.

I like as many rounds as possible, as this will likely be some of my only (non-paper) practice for GP Prague.

Well I'm unsure how to impliment such a system, but it could be done. My main points regarding a season would be ease of scheduling and the ability to set an arbitrary number of rounds for ideal tournament length. Plus season leaderboards can produce all the classic sporting drama that swiss tends to remove, the last game of regular season ends up mattering more often.

So, for example, it would be posted in the thread and PirateKing would be PM'd at the start of the event and informed that he would have to play, iamajellydonut, Sloshthedark, Richard Garfield, and Damaku over the course of ??? days after which the highest standings would duke it out for top eight? I'm sorry it took me this long to actually understand what you were suggesting (and I'm also kind of embarrassed it took me this long), I had mixed up a few of the logistics issues, but now that I do understand, I could totally get behind something like that. I think the biggest hassle would be finding a way to prevent the players from procrastinating like students on an essay. That said, though I do really like the suggestion now that I get it, I'd probably aim for the fourth event to actually make it happen.
I'm rdy 2 Jelly!

I love it and am already looking forward to it!
I also like Swiss. Good opportunity to jam some games against people that actually care and don't rage quit.
I absolutely love this idea and want to/will participate in this again, completely loved the first two. I think it would be pretty nice for us to create Source Facebook page for added ease (at least for some) of communicating with each other and potentially finding competent opponents to face on Cockatrice without fear/annoyance of rage quitters.

I'm keen, assuming I can just rebuy with what didn't get paid out. (Unless both my bank in AUS and Paypal decided not to keep track of a transaction)
Main problem I had with the last one was the 'arbitrary' non-seeding of top-8, where doing well in the Swiss side of the bracket held no relevance, and wasn't said that it was so until the top-8 was determined already. I found it more annoying having to get up early to accomodate for timezones for games then decided weren't relevant to seeding.
Is there going to be something more clear about top-8 this time around?

Speedbump up seems saaaaaalty. Getting to play sourcers on cockatrice was fun, and winning real cards for doing well was great. I got something spicy for you guys this time around.

You should have had something pushed through paypal from me. Please message if it didn't go through as planned so that I can get it fixed.
I just checked my paypal history. Of the three payments I tried to send out, yours is the only one missing. There's nothing there. Not even an email saying that it failed. Sorry about that. If you want, I can try pushing it through again. If not, you're certainly more than welcome to have this event on the house.
As far as top eight, I posted in this OP that the modified play/draw rule would be implemented. I spoke to a few people afterwards and they agreed that they would have expected the modified play/draw. I didn't know its occurrence was so assumed, and my ignorance of its popularity is to blame. However, I would like it noted that there were several more players who expressed curiosity as to what the modified play/draw rule actually was, and even at a local level it seems to be only the top seeds who have a genuine interest in seeing that the modified play/draw rule is implemented.
