This thread is to gather general data about which decks are being played in localized metagames and in what numbers. Please keep discussion to a minimum. What I'd like to see is simple posts in the following format:

Area/Store Name
Deck Name (Number)
Deck Name (Number)
Deck Name (Number)
Deck Name (Number)
Deck Name (Number)
Deck Name (Number)
Deck Name (Number)

If a few specific decks commonly make Top 4/8, please list those too. If someone has already posted information for your area or store, please don't post duplicate information, excepting decks which should be added that someone else missed. Thanks.

Laterly there has been a huge number of R/G/W aggro, and R/G/B aggro, and 1 fire sermon. They do tend to make top 8 and top 4

Occasionaly there is survival advantage played by SpatofAges.

We also sometimes have Spring Tide (played by me usually). Mono White refers to Rabid Wombat.

I played for a while at 3Play in NH, and the meta was something like this:

1 R/G Berserk/Fling (he played this every week)
1 Pox or Gamekeeper (one or the other, every week)
and 3-4 others who played random decks, changing every week to keep things interesting (Landstill, Trix, FEB, Goblins, U/G Madness, Fish, Survival variants)
Occasionally a kid played Burn, and there were always 1 or 2 scrubs playing bad T2 decks.

The Top 4 was basically always Pox, and 3 of us who played random decks. We'd play one match, and then split for the win. I won with such things as Madness, Madness Survival, Goblin Sligh, and Stax.

Wildfire (1)
Turboland (1-2)

All decks, eh?

The Batcave, Vancouver Washington, 15-25 people on average

0-2 UGW Gro
0-1 UGR Gro
0-3 Tendrils Deck, being variations of Spring Tide or TJS usually played by people I go up with when we do show.
3-5 Red Burn decks, generally variations of Goblin Sligh or old school Sligh
2-3 Mono Black or G/B Suicide decks
0-2 G/B The Rock
2-4 White Weenie Variants
1 Multicolor aggro - Generally R/G/W
0-2 Monogreen Stompy
1 Elf Deck variation
1 Current Type 2 deck - though it varies which one and who pilots it.
1 Rotated Type 2 deck who can't find anywhere else to play... i.e. Tooth and Nail or Ravager.
1 Deck that includes some card that is banned in this format, generally something stupid like 1 Land Tax or 1 Skullclamp in thier deck because they though it was restricted.
0-2 Vial Goblins
0-1 Wombat
0-3 Solidarity
1-2 Completely unsleeved bad decks where the pilots of them has never seen a Force of Will or a Fetchland.
1-4 Survival Variations ranging from ATS to RGSA to 4 color Recurring Nightmare.dec
1-2 BBS variations, generally splashing red for Fire/Ice
0-2 Landstill Variants either UW, UR or Urw
0-1 Deadguy Ala
0-1 Counter-sliver

Only thing garunteed to make Top4 is one of the sligh/burn decks.

P.S. any decks in that list that are considered to be "Tier 2" or above are only played by a select group of about 5-6 people (assuming they show up) so it cuts down on the number of "good" decks

That's Entertainment

1-3 Survival decks (lately, MacGuyver x2, ATS)
1-3 Threshold decks (in a range of flavors)
1-3 Vial Goblins (usually 2 each week, at least 1 almost always makes Top 5)
1-5 Blue based control decks (&%$# WPI luvvvvvvs blue based control - these range from BBS type decks to U/W Landstill type control to 3color control but the emphasis of most of these builds is on the control)
1-3 MWC (Jeremy is back with his Parfait-like homebrew and I usually loan out Wombat - neither one makes Top 4 very often)
1 Aluren-Brain Freeze (the damn thing also has threshold elements in it too...played by a really good player, it has so many different ways to kill you, it always makes Top 4)
1-3 Pox/MBC type decks (have done very well the last month or so)
0-1 U/G Madness
0-3 R/G Beats
1-3 Affinity (and it does well despite it's most frequent pilot being a recent conversion from the high school cafeteria Magic scene and limited as a player & theorist, also as you can see we have a diverse enough meta that you can't focus on everything)
1-4 R/G/W (various flavors) Zoo style decks - fast aggro-burn-control
2-6 n00bs, homebrews, 90 card decks - although to be fair, a lot of these guys are new to tourneys in general and are learning as rapidly as possible. Some of the nomebrews are becoming quite well honed also.

Wll edit more as people remind me or the meta updates.

How does this deck work? or is it just a pile?

emidln
02-13-2006, 09:34 AM
It's a pile, but it works way too well for a pile. It's sort of angel-control with forbids, squees, and confinement. It runs intuition to fetch out it's protection, along with running forces and counterspells and other random card advantage. As to creature removal, it switches between 1-3 StP and 0-2 Wrath effects. The win conditions are factories, angels, and decking.

It'd be like taking Landstill, Angel Control, and Confinement, throwing them all together, and this is the pile. I think nassif ran something similar at Lille, though I'm not sure of this. We have done a fair amount of testing and it can be looked at as Landstill with mega inevitability through 1-2 recurring counterspells a turn, confinement, angels, and the lone scepter when it sees play. I'll see if I can get a decklist and post it.

2 UGW Thresh
1 UGR Thresh

3 Deadguy Ale
1 The Rock
1 Elf Deck thats not great
1 Vail Goblin deck piloted by a good player (seems to always be one)
1 Landstill Variant

0 Solidarity unless I play it
2-4 random BBS type decks
1-2 Psychatog
2 Gamekeeper Salvagers
1 Lightning rift
1 Converted Ichorid (does decent actually till it hits a deck with crypts)

Unsurprisingly, the last two decks are always one of the goblin types and one of the others that smashes goblins. Ie. Rift, Solidarity, Thresh w good board.

Also, the Stax variant got changed to Angel Stax. Burning Bridge, 0-2 Threshold, and more and more burn/goblin variants keep showing up each week. Also, there is a new deck one of which is unfamiliar to the format around here: Fires of Yavimiah which took 1st last week.

Caleb
04-07-2006, 07:11 PM
Well, we'll have 8-24 players showing up with different lists, here are the ones I remember.

Duluth, MN

Deck's that I notice showing up consistantly:

1 Vial Gobblins
1 UGR Thresh
1 Raffinity
1-3 R/G sligh/grow (dryad sligh)
1 Time Vault-Fusilade (not the Stacks version)
1-2 G/B Gamekeeper
1 250 (250's pretty popular here, and this guy has only one deck.)

Decks that tend to fluctuate in and out

0-2 Aluren
0-1 Rifter
0-1 Illusions-Donate
0-1 Life
0-2 Scepter Chant
0-2 Landstill
0-1 Spring Tide
0-1 Sex Rector (Pattern)
0-1 2 land belcher (myself, thankyouverymuch)
0-3 Psychatog (various versions)
0-3 Black Aggro Control (sometimes w/green)
0-2 Budget affinity (non-ravager)

Some people play the same aggro deck every week, but the better players tend to fluctuate between decks. GY hate is very minimal.

Overall we seem to have a very small, extremely diverse meta.

@Lego_Army_Man:

Look at my pitucre, that's what I look like :).

In my area we only have some kids playing Standard and Extended. There is almost no Legacy going on over here. I make all my decks according to the Legacy bannedlist, even my casual decks. Sometimes I lend a couple of my decks to lokal kids so I can at least play Legacy irl. Other than that I only play on MWS.

The Legacydecks I own (so are my meta):
- Solidarity (1 proxied Reset, very hard to get over here)
- Enchantress
- Angel Stompy (old version with moxen and Tithe)
- Elves (staff of domination version)
- 12 Land Stompy
- Mono Blue Control
- The Jacky Storm

RayD3 has an extra Reset, ask him if he wants to trade it. 12 Land Stompy should become 9 Lands, because it's better that way. TJS should become Nausea. Just my bad opinions.

You are right. I must change The Jacky Storm in either Naussea or Iggy Pop, I just build it because I wanted to test it and already had all the cards for it. Could you (or someone else) PM me a list of 9 land stompy? I'm very cusious at a list.

As for the picture: I know, it was taken very early in class :)

Funniest "metagame" ever. I played in NH this week while I was home for break. Called up a bunch of friends and we got a janky tournament together.

ATS. Basically the original list that hasn't been played since 2000.
Flame Rift Burn.
Nether Void. Lots of disruption and Dark Ritual --> Nether Void.
Solidarity (me).
Life splash green.
Beacon of Creation combo.
Elves with Concordant Crossroads.
"Combo" Goblins? He was playing Brightstone Ritual, and I saw him do some sick things with it, so I don't know what else to call this.
R/G Fling.dec
5/3 a la Roop's list.
Two others I didn't see.

This was a pretty large turnout, all considered. We had some Dartmouth kids and a couple kids from VT. Anyway, we cut to a top 8 of Myself with Solidarity, Life splash Green, Elves, and Combo Goblins.

Luckily, Life beat Elves in the semis, because I'm not sure I like the Elves match. They're an aggro deck than can just "go off" a bit too fast for me. I beat Combo Goblins in the semis by Remanding/Forcing Ringleader, and then game 2 I Evacuated to buy me a couple of turns. He didn't get very great draws, so it wasn't tough. That left Solidarity versus Life in the finals, which is a funny matchup, to say the least. He didn't play the black version, so I didn't even have to worry about him winning at instant speed or any of that shiz. He comboed out both games and I just waited for him to play his win condition before comboing out myself.

Now, I mention that Elves was playing Concordant Crossroads because one match he got paired against the Nether Void deck, and I just think that's funny

I would just like to give an updated list of decks that are seen here in Syracuse, mostly on a weekly basis.

Vial Goblins (1)
Vial Affinity (1-2)
Gro (3-5)
Solidarity (1-2)
R/W Rifter (1-2)
Faerie Stompy (1)
Deadguy Ale (1)
Angel Stompy (1)
RGSA (1-2)
Turboland (1-2)
Stax (1-2)
Mono Green Beats (1)
Garv.dec (1-2)

Lately it seems like Goblins has died down in numbers, almost no one plays it anymore here. I believe we have a good mix with Grow seeming to be the most popular and played deck in the area.

Ok, so I played old-school Legacy last night at CoD. In my four rounds, I played (using Solidarity) against Tog, Random B/G/W Control Cards.dec, Enchantress, and Full English Breakfast.

The top three ended up Tog, Solidarity, Full English Breakfast with Tog being 4-0 and Solidarity (3-1) having beat F.E.B. 2-0 in rounds.

10 People played with the following

Tog
Solidarity (me)
Full English Breakfast
RGSA
Affinity
B/G/W Control (not dirt)
Rifter
Angel Stompy
Enchantress
1 Uknown Deck utilizing U/B (I think)

It was fun playing something that isn't Stax for a change, but I think I pulled out all 7 games I ended up winning by whoring myself to the gods of topdeck. Hopefully we return to our regularly scheduled meta of goblins, threshold, rifter, and stax next week, but that remains to be seen.

I moved down to Maryland for the summer and I found this little store in Northern Virginia and the meta is full of scrubs. It was like stompy, fairy stompy, angel stompy, iggy pop stompy, thresh stompy, solidarity stompy, and well just about every other crappy stompy deck a scrub would play. I would have won the tournement too except for the fact they were all such n00bs. Guess I'll have to school them for the rest of the summer.

So you lost because everyone else was such a noob? Hehe, I've always loved this argument. There's a reason so many people play stompy decks out there, and that's cause they're fairly consistently good across the board. Just because someone plays the deck doesn't make them a noob. But anyways, on to the meta around me:

Worchester (That's Entertainment w/ many WPI kids gone):
3-4 Quick combo (iggy, belcher...)
2-3 Gro
2-3 Sligh/burn
2-3 Solidarity
1-2 Enchantress
1-2 Homebrew
1-2 Elves!
0-1 Angel Stompy (me)
0-1 Gobbo
Top 4 last time: UGR thresh, Sligh/burn, Angel Stompy, Homebrew.
First time coming back here in a while, will edit when I know more about the exact meta and what consistently places.

Abington (Battleground Games):
2-3 Adapted T2 Stompy
2-3 Gro
1-2 Psychatog
1-2 Gobbo
1 Rifter
0-1 Solidarity/Spring Tide
0-1 Angel Stompy (me)
Typical Top 4: Goblin, Angel Stompy, Gro, Random Other
Myself, one of the thresh players and the gobbo player consistently make T4 there, with the gobbo player apparently being number 7 in MA in legacy (Robby). The last spot typically is somewhat divided.

EDIT: Yeah, apparently I'm not very good with the sarcasm on here. Pie on my face I guess :-P. Oh well. Anyways, I have actually heard the complaint "I didn't do well because everyone was playing random decks/playing like a noob" before. That just doesn't hold in my book. It's not just about beating the current meta, it's about being consistent across the field, and being able to deal with the unexpected. But anyways, sorry bout the misread, think i missed the pop and solidarity stompy the first time through somehow. They really need a sarcasm face on here...

Our metagame is pretty varied, generally, but a lot of people who don't have a whole lot of older stuff tend to play mono black or Homebrew-style disruption decks.

Most recent top 4:

Angel Stompy
Stupid Green (splashing black)
Salvagers Combo
Wildfire

The tourney we had before that expanded to a top 8:

Homebrew
Angel Stompy
Reanimator
Burn
Zoo
Threshold
Homebrew
Homebrew

And the T4 before that:

Threshold
Homebrew
Zoo
Life

So, yeah. Looks somewhat stagnant, but that is skewed slightly by a couple of pretty decent players having preferred decks (Homebrew, Threshold) they play repeatedly and T4 with. The rest of the meta is pretty wide open.

Time for an update on the modern Rochester Millenium Game's and Hobbie's metagame.

1-3 Solidarity
0-2 Goblins (Usually only one of the builds is optimal)
1-3 Angel Stompy,White weenie etc.
1-2 Burn
1 U/G/R Threshold
0-1 Psychatog w/ life from the loam
0-1 Life.dec
0-1 R/G/W Beserk Beats/Fling
0-1 Ankh of Mishra w/Parallax Tide.dec
2-4 Awful Players With Awful Decks

The top decks generally appear to be Thresh,Solidarity, and Psychatog, normally going 5-0, 4-1

In Poland Legacy is at least popular format, unfortunatelly. I'm afraid that even T1 beats it.

That's the metagame of on-line tournament organized by our POPULAR site yesterday (13 players :/)

Top4:
1-2. Mono B Suicide
1-2. Mono R Goblins
3-4. Salvagers
4-4. GWU Threshold

Standings after four rounds:
1. Salvagers
2. UG Fish
3. UGW ********
4. MonoR Goblins
5. 2land Belcher
6. MonoB Suicide
7. UGW ********
8. Mesmeric Gaea's - ME!
9. (?) Pikula / UW Fish
10. 5/3 Aggro (G)
11. (?) Pikula / UW Fish
12. RW Goblins
13. Zubera Combo

It's nice that everyone plays something different, but lack of interests sucks.

I think legacy is the least popular format in every country. I agree that lack of interest is probably one of the most detrimental thing to the format. Of course Wizards have given little incentive for people to have interest in it.

In Montreal, Legacy is slowly surpassing T1 as many T1 players are turning to Legacy. We have in the Mtl area around 3 to 4 tournaments a month with anywhere from 6 to 30 players.

There are a lot of Thresh, Goblins, RG Slight, some Angel, very little combo, some affinity, some rifter and a fair amount of random crap. The metagame is fairly open as long as you can deal with Goblins and Thresh.

Legacy Tourneys pull more players than any other format tourney here in San Diego.

Vintage kind of died, because unless we had a non-sactioned tourney to allow proxies we had only 6 of us with cards. Most of us Vintage players started playing Legacy just to have competition.

We have 30-50 people once a week.
1-2 Solidarity
0-2 2-Land Belcher
1-2 Reanimator
0-1 RecSur
0-1 R/G Survival
0-1 ATS
0-1 Threashold
1-3 Goblins
0-1 Life
0-2 W/B Control
0-1 Mono White Control
0-2 Affinity
0-2 U/R Fish
0-2 W/U Fish
1-2 R/W Agro/Burn
0-1 R/W/U Agro/Burn
0-1 Mono Black
0-1 Spring Tide
0-2 4 Color Landstill
0-1 W/U Landstill/Fish (New deck as of two weeks ago)
0-2 Dredge-Atog
0-1 Icorrid
0-1 G/U Madness
0-1 Brand
0-1 Salvagers
1-2 Braids
0-1 Burn
0-1 Staxs

Then there are about 5-10 Decks that don't matter because someone played a Type 2, Extended, or a complete pile and thus was not competitve.

I am sure that I am missing some decks as well as I have left decks off the list that I haven't seen in awhile.

Yea, Sligh and Burn, but haven't seen them much of them for a while.

Your B/W/G isn't bad jank, it is like B/W control with Green for recursion of the good spells. It is pretty much B/W control, but better, so I grouped it in there because everyone would know that. If I said B/W/G, they'd be like...

I think legacy is the least popular format in every country.

In Germany, we have monthly Legacy, Vintage and Standard tournaments... Legacy outnumbers Vintage by far. Slowly, Vintage starts to die around here and Legacy gets even more popular. One of the main reasons for this is the fact that Vintage tournaments don't allow proxies...

I'm quite happy with the development, though... ;)

My meta is almost exactly the same as TheAardvark with the exception of *****.

There is a huge surge recently with random green aggro and janky ass versions of Tendrils.

I swear god these guys' Tendrils deck look like they just grabbed a bunch of random artifacts from the commons box an hour before the tourney and randomly made it lawwwllzz

My meta is kind of random but there are always a fair amount of sligh and burn. A deck that surprisingly is almost a DTB in my meta is Aluren. Also there are very few (sometimes none) VialGoblin decks. the randomness isn't caused by noobs but mostly 'cause the pros like to catch ppl off-guard by playing a different deck each time.
