Hi.

I was trying to build a torpor orb deck with creatures like phyrexian dreadnought but I wasn't sure if it could work for legacy tournments. Anyway I was trying this list:

Lands
4x Ancient tomb
2x City of traitors
4x Scrubland
10x Swamp

Spells
4x Torpor Orb
4x Aether Vial
4x Sundial of the Infinite
1x Basilisk Collar

Creatures
4x Aven Mindcensor
3x Maralen of the Mornsong
4x Dark Confidant
4x Phyrexian Metamorph
4x Hunted Horror
4x phyrexian dreadnought
4x Spellskite

The idea is to use Dark Confidant draw advantage to get fast Torpor Orb or cast with vial Maralen of the Mornsong at the end of the turn of your opponent and search for Spellskite first if you already don't have it on play and then Aven Mindcensor locking your opponent to tutor any first 4 cards on the top and search combo pieces you need.

What do you think? Is it viable any torpor orb deck in legacy? I tried with duress and hymm to tourach but many times I draw them in middle game so they were useless.

I also could use Hushwing Gryff or Sundial of the Infinite

Regards and thanks in advance

I think you should look into Stifle as another way to use your faties. Not only can you use it to land a creature but you can use it offensively against fetches and Wasteland.

Thanks.

I tried at a first build with also trickbind copies (I was using 4x stifles and 4x trickbind) but many times I draw orbs or sundial and I didn't need them.

My mana base is not so important as I have aether vials to cast creatures. I'm using ancient tombs and city of traitors to get some acceleration on the first turns.

As I'm using this card Maralen of the Mornsong I'm thinking in removing 2 swamps (as I have 22 lands) and change those 2 slots for pithing needle and null rods (avoid engineered explosives and similar artifacts) or mindlock orb and a underground sea or watery grave to make a better lock after play Maralen of the mornsong. Anyway, this is a draft deck project just in case someone would like to test it customizing it.

Thanks for your help.

I am testing a similar deck in two flavors: BW (similar to yours) and RW (more artifact heavy, more prison, with Goblin Welder).

W is always for Hushwing Gryff.

U splash or main color is a reasonable route as well (mainly for Stifle).

In the BW version, I don't play Ancient Tomb and City of Traitors, simply because it's more color intensive (especially the Hunted Horror).

From the top of my head, here's my BW list:

// 22 Lands

4x Marsh Flats
4x Scrubland
1x Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth
2x Plains
4x Wasteland
7x Swamp

// 19 Creatures

4x Hushwing Gryff
4x Phyrexian Dreadnought
4x Hunted Horror
4x Dark Confidant
3x Thalia, Guardian of Thraben

// 19 Support

4x Aether Vial
4x Torpor Orb
3x Vindicate
4x Sinkhole
4x Thoughtseize

I am not happy with this list, but it works ok.

However, I feel like an Tomb/City/Mox Opal version is better. There's nothing like first turn Orb, second turn Dreadnought, Lightning Greaves, swing :cool:
