Hey guys! I've been thinking about a deck idea that probably would be more casual, but with an ok chance to be somewhat competitive against some tier 1 decks. The idea is to play ramp artifacts, ignore my opponent's game plan and on turn 4-5 play upheavel, float a load of mana and replay your artifacts. And win from there on with the tempo advantage you have.
Here's a VERY rough list:
- 4 Upheavel
- 4 FOW
- 2 Flusterstorm
- 4 Ponder
- 4 Brainstorm
- 4 Tezzeret The Seeker
- 4 Grim Monolith
- 4 Thran Dynamo
- 2 Worn Powerstone
- 2 Hedron Archive
- 2 Mox Opal
-4 ???
- 2 Ancient Tomb
- 2 City of Traitors
- 1-2 Boseju
- 2 Seat of Synod (for Mox Opal)
- 12 Island
Things I'm looking for:
- A good win condition (Tezzeret is lackluster but it's the best I could find). Possibly Wurmcoil? Or Kuldotha Forgemaster and a fatty?
- Considering stuff like Thirst For Knowledge, Paradoxical Outcome for quick card advantage
- Card suggestions in general

Agent of bolas is plus, say go, then win with no need for upheaval. That lets you play cards that do something as well instead of just bad mana rocks. If you want to commit to mana rocks then Karn is your best bet. He at least takes advantage of them by making them attack.

I think including zero-costed artifacts might be a good idea, though I feel like that could make the deck vulnerable to Chalice of the Void, Thorn of Amethyst, and Thalia.
What about including Sensei's Top and some Miracle cards? Devastation Tide seems like a natural for a build like that.
You could also try for a Storm-based win using something like Brain Freeze. Temporal Mastery might also help you accelerate past a lot of decks or put you in a position to win with Laboratory Maniac.

Maybe Rebuild out of the sideboard to combat Chalice and Spheres? Returning your own artifacts might net you some extra mana/storm count too.
I like the idea of this deck. Reminds me of the old Psychatog + Upheaval decks.

I Actually like Karn as a win condition. It's not optimal but then again it's probably as good a win condition as you're gonna get. The added ability of being able to kill opposing Chalices and the occasional Mox Diamand, Chrome Mox, ... is a nice extra. I'll probably cut down on Tezzerets since 4 Tezz is likely too many.
Another option to consider is play Chalice of the Void myself. I'd cut either 4 Brainstorms or 4 Ponders to reduce the amount of 1- mana spells. This would help the storm matchup and the card is also a beating against control.
Wurmcoil Engine would be good agains fast aggro decks and is resilient to removal.... .
Tezzeret Agent is a good suggestion by itself but it would require me to add black and mess up my mana base... .

Final version:
4 Upheavel
2 Thran Dynamo
2 Worn Powerstone
4 Grim Monolith
4 Metalworker
1 Staff of Domination
4 Kuldotha Forgemaster
1 Wurmcoil Engine
1 Blightsteel Colossus
1 Platinum Angel
1 Myr Battlesphere
1 Duplicant
1 Steel Hellkite
4 Chalice of the Void
3 Lodestone Golem
1 Tezzeret the Seeker
2 Mox Opal
4 Sensei's Divining Top
4 Ancient Tomb
3 City of Traitors
1 Inventor's Fair
5 Island
5 fetchlands
2 Seat of the Synod
Tactics:
1. Play mana rocks followed by Upheavel while floating a load of mana and restart the game with a big mana advantage.
2. Play Kuldotha, sac three artifacts and get what you need (usually Blightsteel). Tap Top and sac it to draw a card off it.
3. Metalworker and Staff plus 3 artifacts in hand = win.
4. Chalice is a beast against most decks, while not hindering you since you only play a few spells of 1 or 2 mana.
I have a small local tournament tomorrow to test it out, will report back with findings.

Went 3-1 at my local FNM.
Goblins: 2-0 win.
Shardless BUG: 1-2 loss
Burn: 2-1 win (chalice for 1 is pretty nice ;-) )
Dredge: 2-1 win
Also did some testing against Death and Taxes, which is a very favourable matchup imo. Their mana denial strategy is not as good against a deck with a lot of mana acceleration, and my creatures are too big for them to handle.
Chalice protects you from STP, and if you play it turn one on the play it sets them back enormously. Mother of Runes does absolutely nothing. Also, Upheavel is the nuts.
I think the deck has potential and will continue testing with it.
