Hello all,

I was wondering about the following deck idea as a token theme:

4 Deathrie Shaman
4 Young Pyromancer
4 Dark Confidant
2 Monestary Mentor

4 Lightning Bolt
4 Fatal Push
4 Swords to Plowshares
4 Cabal Therapy
4 Faithless Looting
4 Sensei's Divining Top
2 Painful Truths

4 Bloodstaind Mire
4 Marsh Flats
2 Arid Messa
1 Swamp
1 Mountain
1 Plains
2 Badland
2 Bayou
2 Scrubland

Sideboard:
4 Abrupt Decay
4 Thoughtsieze
4 Duress
3 Surgical Extraction

The idea is that against fair decks you just spot removal while making tokens. The looting help to cycle through the deck to get rid of extra lands or dudes. The tops are there to combo with mentor and help with card selection. The only match-up I am not really sure about it lands. Any comments are welcomed (please note I am not sure this is a good idea or just a list of good cards).

i would lower the # of tops to two and probably cut 2-3 of the 8 spot removal cards for some more discard/abrupt decay. you'll need to interact with combo a bit more game 1. it also couldn't hurt to attack from different angles as well. (possible 1-3 planeswalkers somewhere)

i'm not sure the white is good enough in this deck and you might just be opening up yourself to wasteland needlessly.

anyway good luck with the deck, but those are my first thoughts.

It's fun, I'm trying to brew something similar for a while now, but it always feels incomplete.
The fact is, too much 1x1 here and only a single angle of attack make the deck very weak against a lot of MUs.
Eldrazi, miracles, lands, combo in general are horrible match ups.

Today's brew was something like

7 fetchlands
4 scrublands
3 badlands
1 plateau
1 swamp
1 plains
1 mountain
3 wastelands

4 young pyromancer
4 dark confidant
3 monastery mentor
3 deathrite shaman

7 seize + cabal (4/3 or 3/4 depending on meta and style)
4 swords to plowshares
4 gitaxian probe / faithless looting
3 vindicate
1 terminate/diabolic edict
4 lightning bolt
2 goblin bombardment/zealous persecution/other token enhancers

Sideboard:
Meta depending as always, but we obviously need graveyard hate, some more discard (maybe tourach), decays if we splash green or other miracle hate.
A stoneforge package (3x and 2 equips) may fit, too, or an alternative finisher.

The idea is having a way to attack different angles using vindicates against everything and eventually wastelands if the match goes that way to tempo-out the opponent, using discards to keep our guys safe and move the timing of plays from our opponents.
I strongly miss:

the looting/liliana/lingering souls trio, and would really like to fit them.
kholagan's command, 1/2x
lightning helix
another alternative way to draw. I don't think there is time to draw with SDT, if we go the aggro way, so we need to draw more. Painful truths, or I'd really love asylum visitor, that really fits with discard and looting

I feel our treats are too slow compared to other strong decks and we found ourselves out of burst very fast.
Feels like a nice deck, but not a strong one...yet.

Would Queen Marchessa fit in here? Monarch is a solid draw engine, and 3/3 Deathtouch Haste is not amazing but certainly nothing to scoff at.

You kinda have a Team Italia deck going with this. My advice is to add more disruption, not be afraid of scaling back from 4-ofs, and adding in a vehicle or two for some more beef- or if your prefer, equipment.

If you keep white, which I think you should, certainly consider running Lingering Souls. It's insane with Pyromancer and you get to cast it twice. Also consider Smallpox as it combos nicely with Pyromancer. Cast Smallpox, Pyromancer triggers creating a token, sac the token and Pyromancer is safe. Also Smallpox combos nicely with Lingering Souls. First, if Lingering Souls is in your hand you can pitch it to Smallpox. If you've already cast Lingering Souls you have a token to sac to Smallpox rather than one of your more important creatures. Also, Lingering Souls combos nicely with Faithless Looting and Liliana of the Veil. My two cents..
