Bubbling Spiral (BUG version of High Tide)

Brewing with Muck to try and find an Alternate High Tide deck that's black and possibly geared toward a different meta. I understand and this is not planned to become the next T1. I've fallen in love with this idea and its has been hella fun. One of the neatest tricks that brings joy is being able to Veteran explorer, and cabal therapy/kill your own creature to put lands into play during your turn that you go off. Having multiple discard spells allow access to continue going off through opponents permission depending on your draw seven. 6 Tutors + remaining Time spirals guarantee highly of seeing a fresh 7 consistently. One kill card mainboard in case of fizzle that's wins through obtainable mana and not storm..

Main wishboard targets to continue going off or going for kill. Normally storm is more consistent but in times where you fizzle and clear board, deathwish for torment allows win with enough lands / muck'd lands in play

Sideboard combo that is brought in when Graveyard hate is good and when playing against white when Sanctum prelate or Ethersworn Canonist could be played. Also has outplay potential versus decks that might bring in RiP to hurt your spirals.

Yes, and I do want to get to a point where I could test them in any number (Capsize in SB for infinite mana) but alas those are currently out of my price range. Current build is obtainable within budget and don't have anyone in local playgroup that has them so obviously cant borrow them.

I think dark ritual is pretty good here too. It will give you an opportunity to go off quicker and it might make things easier for games where you only have a few lands in play when starting the combo.

This deck looks AWESOME. Here are some suggestions off the top of my head.

Culling the Weak provides another sacrifice outlet for Veteran Explorer and can give you enough mana for Bubbling Muck + Time Spiral on turn 2: turn 1, land, cast Veteran Explorer; turn 2, land, Culling the Weak. If you do end up running Culling, you might want to squeeze a Dryad Arbor into the mana base.

Summoner's Pact doubles the number of Veteran Explorer's in your deck without costing extra mana on the combo turn and could be used to find silver bullets. Alternatively, Green Sun's Zenith could be used in a more controlling build.

Exsanguinate might be a better kill card than Torment of Hailfire since you can scale it to your opponent's life total. With Torment, X needs to be at least 14 (7 mana to strip your opponents hand after Time Spiral refills it, 7 mana to kill them from 20 life, plus mana equal to the number of non-land permanents they control).

I like Death Wish as a tutor over Beseech the Queen since Beseech takes too much mana to find Time Spiral. Death Wish also opens up the option of having a semi-transformational sideboard with Death's Shadow. Diabolic Intent is another potential tutor option that synergizes with Veteran Explorer.

I would consider removing Hymn to Tourach, Abrupt Decay, Fatal Push, Pernicious Deed, Sylvan Library since they don't advance the main game plan and adding some cantrips like Brainstorm and Ponder.

Finally, a few questions about game play: How easy is it to turn on Spell Mastery after Time Spiral? And how useful is the extra mana provided by Lotus Petal?

Really good sugesstion with culling the weak. It might be worth it to consider a draw 4 (infernal contract) and/or run a tendrils of Agony in the maindeck.

I think you can safely take out the Sylvan and the deed as well as 2 hymn. I'd consider running 3 draw 4s and a tendrils with the current configuration.

How has your goldfishing been? You fizzle a lot? It feels like you need more business spells in the deck.

I think you'd want some amount of Phyrexian Tower to kill off Veteran Explorer for BB(G)xx turn 2.

I have thought about P Tower, but it's another non fetchable land and it only gives a burst at inoppurtune times. Since I'm not nic fit I'm not tryin to slam 5drops turn two, but instead build up land count (pref 4-6+). Tower like rituals such as cull the weak give the mana necessary but not the lands to generate mana on Time spiral 1-3. Some of the other options listed have been tested a bit but currently seemed less optimal. I will be creating a list that might include the cantrips over so much discard and see how it affects win percentage.

I have moved the Library to SB and added a Notion Thief to the main to combo with Time spiral and disrupt opponents Brainstorns/ponder/JtMS. Also added a 2nd island to have 2 unwasteable blue sources and an extra land for Vet Ex to search up if need be. (Planing on island, U sea most games)

Having discard spells and probes along with Mucks it's very easy to have spell master after a spiral. Maybe <5 percent of the time are the hands not set up to do it.

I think City of Solitude could have a place here. If you do decide to run it, the draw 4 spells seem great here to make sure you don't fizzle. Garruk wildspeaker also seems great here, as an alternative win con and a way to set yourself up the turn before you combo. (generating 4 mana isn't so bad either the turn you do combo.)

Also consider heartbeat of spring.

so i racked my brain and goldfished on cockatrice with BG variants using candelabra, early harvest and heartbeat of spring in addition to bubbling muck. the issue was the consistency. i couldn't continue to combo. spiral tide also would have trouble with consistency, but they run ponder, brainstorm, merchant scroll, cunning wish etc.

i don't think i can figure it the consitency issue. best of luck!

Cool deck! Do you think any old Prosbloom cards have a place in this deck? (Squandered Resources, Cadaverous Bloom, Natural Balance)

Bloom could be great in a deck like this. I had considered mentioning skirge familiar. Can't believe I forgot bloom!

With bloom it's even possible to run 2 griselbrand.

Squandered resources, seems more apt if your going after a specific number of mana like in storm or Belcher. Here we want lots of mana and excess of it not a finite number. However sacrificing lands for blue is nice.

Natural balance would be better in a build with rituals as getting this T1 or 2 would be a boon. As it sits this deck maybe able to get two lands out of it on average.

Cadeverous is actually interesting being able to pitch lands for mana would be super convienent. But the 5 CMC though makes this a difficult include. But like balance there may exist a version of this deck that can utilize more properly and it'll diffinitly be on the maybe list of things to brew around.
