Why the move away from the Philadelphia Convention Center?

Question: I noticed that hotel rates are really high in that area of the city. Does this have something to do with the Steelers game happening that Sunday?

I mean, I can't find a hotel for less than $300 a night there now. And most of them are booked solid at this point.

Why didn't this get a response? Seems like there's gotta be a reason...

The convention center made some changes that made it too expensive.

That's a shame. Thanks!

Thanks Zach - looking forward to it!

Question: do you expect a lot of vendors will be set up on Thursday? I need to find myself a Mox Pearl before Vintage . . .

Hard to say for sure, but I would imagine most would be.

Pittsburgh in general is a really expensive hotel city. Even booking early and shopping around it was 200 thurs, 170 friday, and 370!! for Saturday. It was like this for GP Pitt last time I went as well, I think it's just the city all the time.

I found it more cost efficient to find a hotel about 25 minutes away from the convention center. To me, the 25 minutes isn't a big deal at all, and the difference between $75 a night and $200 a night is massive. $225 vs $600 is/was totally worth it, IMO.

I liked it so much better when it was in Philly and I could just drive in each day from where I live (an hour away from Philadelphia).

:-/

And when it was in Philly we had the Reading Terminal Market! I doubt there's anything that good food-wise in Pittsburgh...

Pittsburgh is like NYC if you removed all the trash, people, and soul.

The Strip District is just a few steps away from the convention center, though whether or not you'd consider that to be better than the Reading Market is up in the air. There's certainly less "pick up and run" food there. Unfortunately, most of our great restaurants are going to be an Uber away rather than a walk away.

Patience, Vintage is already there.

Btw. Vintage seems in a really bad position, with 5x Ravager Shops and 3x Oath in the Top 8.

Edit: Seems like Top 8 starts at 9 AM EDT (3 PM in Europe) on Sunday.

You've obviously done very well to get into the Top 8. However, you look so~ nervous under the camera, i.e. the Ponder short-cut shuffle thing. Randy was pretty critical on the game one of Semi-final on Picking up Bskull, and then got a slow-play warning because SB taking too long. Instead of losing Jace to DRS, could have just Jace-fateseal your opponent to keep its loyalty at 4. You can semi-ensure that Delver won't flip. Even if it did flip, cannot kill Jace without killing the DRS on your side.

Boring. Meta is stagnent. I liked it more when Miracles was around, and top is cancer.

I'm not sure what was wrong with the BSkull play, I'll have to watch it on camera later.

As for the Jace in game 2 of the BUG Delver matchup, I know I punted that one, trust me. The correct line was to Brainstorm. If I hit removal (which I would have), I'm really far ahead. If I don't, but he doesn't flip his Delver, I'm really far ahead. Why I bounced his Delver and went down to 1 counter... who knows. I played 23 rounds of magic this weekend, so I'm a little fried.

Meta is stagnent.

This isn't true at all. That tournament could be run back the next week and there could be significant changes in representation. Or pick another large tournament and compare. Top 8s change significantly based on even minor decisions and play mistakes at some point during the day. They change based on pairings, sideboarding, tiebreakers, luck of the draw, and more. You can certainly prefer other eras of Legacy, but it's false to claim things are stagnant.

Good joke.

Top 8 is not representative of meta. Top 32 is closer to a representation of solid decks, but at a 700+ person tournament, I'd even go so far as to say top 64 is where you should be looking.

I just watched game 1 against BUG Delver where there was the Batterskull play, but I did the math at the time and my opponent had lethal unless I blocked. I went back and checked my lifepad paper, and I had myself at 10, but the footage shows me at 11, so I'm not sure what happened there. I probably wrote down my life going down by 1 when he fetched instead of him or something. I was a complete mess that round. I wouldn't have made Top 8 if I played like that in the Swiss. Oh well.

Well if it’s any consolation you had my chat group drooling over your list. Congrats on doing so well!
