After g1 I can truely say that both players really did their best to try to lose that game.

I usually try not to be too hard to people on camera but this match has been appalling. Just so many misplays.

There simply has to be a limit...I have no idea how many cameras it would take for me to try tapping a Rest In Peace for mana, but it would sure need to be more than two.

The guy with the indoor sunglasses could have won by Porting the control player's land. Instead, he gave him enough mana to Toxic Deluge.
Maybe he couldn't read what Port says because of his sunglasses. He also tapped Rest In Peace and tried to use it for mana.
What was the dice thing all about in the end? I thought they were counting additional turns but they didn't stop at five. Maybe sounds would have told what's going on but I'm watching muted stream so I'm just baffled.

I think it was related to a slow-play warning.

Yeah, slow play warning gave them 7 extra turns instead of 5.
Thanks. No wonder nothing made sense.
Thanks. No wonder nothing made sense.
There were many other reasons, but at least that one could be logically explained.
Would it really be so hard to ask around for some local Legacy "specialists" who might not have had byes, so the feature match could actually feature something? Plus it would be a nice nod to the local community.

Have we taken bets on what is going to top 8? I'm assuming 28/32 Brainstorm and 28/32 DRS, assuming that 1 Dragon Stompy/D&T player who managed to dodge all of their bad matchups/Lands player who managed to dodge lotus petals/Eldrazi player who is playing legacy for the first time manages to top 8.

My money is on 24/32 Brainstorms and 20/32 DRS, but only because the Top 16 and Top 32 are choke-full with the rest that didn't make it on the breakers.

Usually Legacy GP's have 16-20/32 Brainstorms in the top 8, and then the top 32 is 88/96, and Wotc gets to pretend everything is fine.

Clearly need to ban DRS.
There's no other factor in common to all those decks. And certainly not one that has been in common to top decks of the last 5 years, for that matter!

Top 8:
1 Noah Walker - Grixis Delver
2 Daniel Duterte - Grixis Delver
3 Steven Rubin - Czech Pile
4 Jeremy Dezani - BUG control
5 Luke Purcell - Miracles
6 Samuel Black - Lands
7 Miranda Keith - Maverick
8 Keaton Wood - Miracles

Looks like I was close with my prediction, except Maverick ruined the DRS part.
What do you mean? It's exactly 20 DRS in the top 8. There are also exactly 24 Brainstorms and Force of Wills, but only 23 Ponders. There are 3 decks not playing DRS (Lands, and 2x Miracles) with the rest running playsets.

Supringly enough, there are only 4 DRS decks on the places #9-16, putting it at 36/64 copies. Meanwhile, Brainstorm sits at 44/64 copies, but that's business as usual by now.

And good luck to them with their deck. I'm not asking for anyone to be banned out of the format. That said I didn't really want to put my Alpha REB up for sale, my Recruiters or my Moons up for sale but did. We lost top and we all knew that was going to be the option. I'm sure those Tundra lost so much Value while Painter became unplayable. Something had to be done though.
It's just sad that what we lost was interesting and fun and what we kept was the same shit with a different patterned toilet paper.

I agree Painter was interesting and fun; and I lament the format's loss. This coming from a guy who almost never beat the cursed deck!
That said, I am glad we kept Miracles, because it is also interesting and fun. Between the heavy "top deck matters" theme, and the fact that it's a dedicated stack based control deck with very little in the way of actual threats, makes it a distinctive deck. I think it's uniqueness gets downplayed because it:
- Is a cantrip deck
- Is a frustrating "hard control" deck
- Was top dog for so very long.
- Survived a (hefty) ban but is still tier-1.
I believe these features have garnered a lot of resentment for Miracles that the current version doesn't really deserve.

Don't sell your painter stuff just yet. That deck is still gasoline although you can't beat strong Grixis draws #bandeathrite.
