So the Gate is this neat mono b control deck. Its biggest weakness is often poor topdecks.

I want to build a control deck using Bolas's Citadel as an engine and with Gray Merchant of Asphodel

The Gate has been dead a long time in Legacy, and Bolas's Citadel is too slow for it anyway.

Why not try this in Modern? Most of the cards are Modern legal.
