The alteration on the Sol Ring would look so much better on a black border Sol Ring. If this summer collector is willing to have that done I wonder what other alterations have been made. I have yet to see something which tops JACO's hypercrimped (the crimp is about a half an inch up the card, it must have been sticking out of the pack its so bad) altered by Garfield Berserk though.

I agree completely. One day I was really bored so I looked up a bunch of different alphabets. By far the coolest were Urdu, Korean, Arabic, and Aramaic. It would also be awesome to get bazaars and AN cities altered to be written in arabic, but you would need to find a calligraphist.

Hebrew is similar to Aramaic. Urdu is spoken in Pakistan and seems to have some ties to sanskrit, but looks quite different. Here is force of wills textbox in Urdu....

Again, this kind of talk want got you anywhere. English Forces will cost you slightly more than German ones. Obviously you're referring to stuff like magickartenmarkt.de or ebay but that's just fail. Just like you say, staples in foreign languages sell for more that's why English > German. There's a reason why German stores sell more English than German boosters given enough supply.

Stateside German Forces cost a lot more than English. I would assume it would be different in Germany. I was told that in Germany people prefer English because the translations get messed up and it is a lot easier to settle a rules dispute when it is in English. German can fetch a higher price here in the states because we still aren't over words being 26 characters long with four z's in them (or anything with blitz or shlong in it).

Personally I love to collect German cards because it is more challanging than English foil to get and it is my favorite language.

If one will compare the value of Japanese MTG cards sold in Japan, they actually costs more in yen than English ones sold in any other country. And these people are the most nationalistic you can ever encounter. English language don't interest them at all.

that's not the point imo. when you start pimping a deck like he did you want it to get perfect in your own style (maybe this includes the crypts being from different editions for him). in my eyes imperfectness harms overall picture of the deck. i said i like it and that i dislike the fact that the crypts are from different editions - that's it.

Umm, yeah, I haven't bent hundreds, but I've bent every piece I own. It's not exactly difficult, just bend it. You can practice with commons. If it creases it's fake and worthless anyway so no need to get worried. :smile:

It's not too bad. Theres a craft store about two blocks from where I live that does custom framing for $15. You have to buy all the parts, but the wood border is like $4-6, the cardboard backpanel is ~$1...the most expensive piece would be the glass front, which would probably run like $15 for a piece that large. All told, under $50 for the frame, thats not bad.

My Uncut sheet looks the same.
Because of the size of the sheet, even this thick sheet looks like thin paper.
Normaly you get the sheets in a "role" (i don't know the right english word), so that the uncut sheet is rolled when you put it out and you need a long time to get it even - and I don't think they did anything to the Beta Sheet, because it could cause damage

I've seen quite a few of those beta sheets, it's not exactly that rare. I know one older guy who has a few. They sold them a long time ago at a Gencon and he bought a bunch of them. I think that one is a tad overpriced though I admit I haven't seen any others besides those.

While this is entirely subjective, it's worth more because it's an oddity/rarity. To a player, it's useless, but for collectors, finding crimped versions of playable cards is akin to finding the Holy Grail. Same thing with extreme miscuts.

I'm going to try to take and upload a better picture of them, but these test prints look a lot better in real life, and scan/photograph poorly. The symbol also differs from the typical set symbols we are used to. They're like foiled symbols (kind of like the same material as that of the foil star), and most obvious on the +3 prints, but can't be seen properly from the scans.

Well, the Reya is called such because of a red ink bleed (happened quite a bit in Invasion), which makes it look kinda red. This one looks more pink, but very red ones exist, and I want them!

I promised a long time ago to showcase some playtest cards. I don't think there is a playtest black lotus, so the Recall (in today's terms) is probably numero uno for playtest cards, together with some other weird cards that were removed from Alpha. For the record, Natural Selection was originally playtested as a green Ancestral Recall.

Ah well, originally had two other cards in it, but then I managed to pick up the cradle and bolt, and those two cards are basically auto-includes. As far as bank accounts go, as I hardly sell any of my test prints or summer, my bank account has been taking sizeable hits over the last few months.

Rule of thumb is that any print up to and including UD is functionally identical to its actual counterpart. The exceptions are silver bordered Exodus, and some stuff people label loosely as test prints (like the UNL stuff and cards like the Mesa Pegasus/Scryb Sprites). Those have real backs and are playable in sanctioned tournaments.

Anything after is white-backed. Not legal for play.

So, CoTs, cradle and bolt = yay. EE = nay. For tourney play, that is.

For Mishra's Factory, AQ all the way. I would go with either Winter or Summer.

But then again, I just really dislike foils.

the mixture of old school english cards, japanese foils and english promo foils is very nice and along with some cards being signed (and altered) it is just unique.

Amazing deck. I am confused about your mystical tutor, merhcant scroll, tormods crypt, and hurkyls recalls. They are not consistant with the deck. Why go for the ugly foil mystical instead of going Japanese? Also, why not Japanese foil crypt, recalls, and scroll? With a bankroll like you appear to have I would guess these moves are intentional and not because you don't have the cards.

Ok, so this is not a deck per se in that I am not playing this deck in any tournaments at the moment, but I have been collecting the cards I need to build whatever variation of mono blue Merfolk I can. As you can see, the deck's "pimp" theme is Chinese, non-foil. That's because I am trying to Chinese out all my cards and because I hate foils more and more and have been selling/trading away my foils.

If you guessed Lord of Atlantis, you'd be right. I have been unable to track down a playset of FBB Chinese or even Timeshifted Chinese LoAs, so these ugly foil DCI will have to do for now.

For pic 2, you'll notice Force of Wills are English, so meh. Ugly eyesore in the deck, but no choice (German would be equally ugly for anyone who suggests those). The Standstills I picked up just randomly from a shop 6 years ago, so that was kind of cool to not have to track those down. The Dazes were a bitch to get as Mainland China doesn't have a lot of older cards period, let alone older Chinese cards because those [Daze] were never released here. I actually bought a box of Chinese Nemesis to get them. :eyebrow: The Wastelands I was lucky to trade for recently, although I gave a huge premium to the guy for them. :cry: Still, they look hawt.

The last thing you may be wondering about is wtf is up with Masques Islands? Well, it's pretty simple. I used to only play with Unglued basics, but since I decided to change to all Chinese cards, those were off limits. Recently, I picked up a box of Mercadian Masques Chinese starters, and so now I have about 70 of each basic land type, so I think I will just use them for all my future decks. It's kind of fitting because a) it's the first expert level stand alone set to have the textless text box for basic lands; b) it was the first set to be newly released after I began playing Magic. That said, Tempest basics (love the art) in Chinese would be sweet as hell and I may go for them in future. I hate Zendikar lands.

This last pic is just some random potential sideboard and main deck options. I need to pick up more Chinese BEBs and also need to find Chinese Tormod's Crypts.

The key card missing is Stifle, and I haven't been able to find those either. Overall, I'm quite happy with the way the deck is shaping up. Although I live in China, it still isn't that easy for me to track down Chinese cards, and when I do, the prices are usually 50% higher than current market values in America.
