The only foils of Lord of Atlantis are 7th and TSP, so they're both rare, but TSP has the classic art while 7th's is.... less so.

Time Spiral also had the new awesome foiling technique, while 7th Edition featured the old shooting star and embedded layer of aluminum so the card would fold like a tent. I guess it's a matter of taste though, I liked my foil Goblin Welder before I sold it and the promo Urza's Saga basics are pretty hot.

I can also back nightmare up on the old prices of alters. I saw a guru island on eBay which someone used as a proxy. I asked her how much it would cost to put a cloud or something over the "FoF" someone wrote on it and she only wanted $35. I know it wasn't an extreem alteration but it would have encompased 1/3 of the card

Why we talk about prices of 4-5 years ago? Is like talking about the early days of Future Sight when we could buy goyfs for $5... Truth is nowadays alterations cost what they cost because of:

- HUGE demand (by HUGE i mean REALLY HUGE).
- Artist has very small time to do them
- Artist is doing excellent work when altering, because she knows how much people is willing to pay for.

If you want her alter you something and do not want that "lame" 5% off, then go ahead. I'm sure there's gonna be a lot of people willing to benefit from this unique deal and save those $200 to buy something else.

I agree that it can be awesome. I was playing in a 10 proxie tournament and I had a basic land with BOLT written on it because I forgot my bolts. I forgot to add summer bolts to the list. They have the added appeal of looking like crap to the untrained eye. It would be fun to play a summer bolt, have someone come up and ask why you have such a lame bolt in a pimped out deck and just let them think its worth nothing.

A valued part of my collection (and part of my next scan), but to be honest, if I had to take a blowtorch to either the hurricane or a card like say the EE test print, there'd be one less hurricane in the world. I also passed up on trying for the summer serendib because I just paid for this and a couple other things :(

LOL If you want to believe that "Summer Edition" is the name of the set then go ahead, but it's just the summer print run of Revised, which was recalled. We actually got a few boxes of it where I live here in Tennessee, and I can tell you nobody knew the difference until the packs were opened.

"Summer Edition" or "Edgar" or whatever you want to call it are just names to distinguish it from the other Revised print runs.

I have to say that I actually like the Judges' Onslaught fetches better than the originals because they foiled up the art; I was never particularly a fan of the shooting star thing, and I personally enjoy foils solely for the way they highlight the art.

Sorry for my lack of contribution, I promise I'll toss something up when I again have access to a scanner. No promises on how long that will be though :-/

I know that almost any artist will sign cards if you mail them with a self addressed stamped envelope. If you google it someone put together a decent contact list on the Wizards forums iirc. Also, if you are ever near Boulder CO, Dan Frazier loves to have people to his house to sign cards. He does it so he can try to sell you art though. Was kinda akward...

On the subject of Lightning bolts and the respective value, I would put the Metal bolt above textless foil. Other than that, the list as stated by Occam is spot on. Unfortunately, you cannot actually play with the metal bolt, so there is that caveat.

I see you've never actually seen the Strip Mine I use in EDH? It's from frigging Anthologies. All hail white bordered cards with an Antiquites logo on them. You'd almost mistake it with a Chronicles one, except Strip wasn't in that series.

Not real sure. I happened to come across a bunch of these while they weren't legal and picked them up for fun decks around the time Vampiric Tutor got restricted. I jokingly wanted the Imperial Seals for a deck that used to have Vampirics in it. I got a ton of the rares in the lot. I realized how close I was to finishing it later on after they made it legal. I slowly traded for most and Ebayed a few obscure ones. Imperial Recruiter was the last card oddly enough.

Anyway, finishing that one was a bitch. No one has that kind of stuff in their trade folders and even vendors at the Grand Prixs and Gencons don't have much to look through. I remember I had Wolf Pack on an automatic Email notification for a ton of sites if one ever popped up. That card took 7 months to find of constant scouring the net. Some were just as bad.

Awesome stuff. I still need some Legends from that set for my legendary collection and although I already got the most expensive ones (I got them before EDH became big), I always feel bad to spend money on them. Seeing them together like that looks really great.

Too bad I have to split my money between card to actualy play with, my legendary collection and my complete Korean set. I have more love for the cards to play with and the Korean set, so I almost never take the time to grab the missing legends.

I didnt like japanese that much either until the only japanese card I had in my deck was one negate. I had it in my hand against dredge, he cabal therapy-ed me and then did it again, not taking negate. He didn't know what it was. He attempted to go off and swing with haste, I countered the spell, and next turn dropped EE, end step wiped the board and took control with elspeth and jace. It was a classic. Since then, I have decided foreign in the way to go. It will win you a game or two along the way. Or lose you one if you don't know your own cards, haha!

I actually like seeing these decks and all, but why is it there is so many people with a pimped out Dredge deck anyway? That is kind of odd how many there are in this thread.


One last thing, I want to have some fun. I have a challenge. Name a deck you have never seen pimped out and I'll throw as much of it together as I can and post it. Be something different. About the only thing I can't build is stuff with recruiters as I only own two.

Hilarious. Considering Nielsen's work is copying the likeness of Tedin's work, I can't really understand why someone copying Nielsen's work is somehow off limits. Also, the alter on the right is not even attempting to pass itself off as a fake, hence the artist's own mark, not a forgery of Nielsen's signature.

The guy who did it for me made sure not to make it exact. However if Terese made a cross on her force of wills, are cross's off limits to everyone. I got it done because The picture is awesome. I am glad you have the original one, but in no way was I trying to pass it off as yours. If anything you shold be happy you have a piece of art, so nice thaty other people want to have, but personallly I would have never paid 700 for it, it is nice but not 700 nice , but thats just what I think.

I once played a "garden" deck i already posted, which was originally meant to be an improved version of 43 lands (in the french metagame at least). I don't play anymore so i have no idea about that though.

At this point i still had to pimp the top right cards (alterations), and the 4 explorations were meant to be altered as well by BigUp (who did the tabernacle ... that now belongs to a VIPlayer :) )

Someone over on MTGS was bitching because someone had a very similar alter commissioned to theirs.
Sorry, but they aren't copyrighted or trademarked, and the chivalry among altered artists isn't that high.
If someone really likes something they've seen, and doesn't want to pay what it would cost to get the other done, someone out there will paint it for them.

Not trying to be rude, but anyone calling out Terese Nielson imitators is pretty much not understanding the irony in wanting artistic honesty while commisioning work from someone who has made an altering career of violating precisely that. Not wrong or anything, but glass houses and all that.

Too bad most of my collection is in toploaders or screwdowns. I could post some really nice decks. For example, my geddon stax deck (lacking about 4 of the korean cards now) if I chose to put it together would be multiples of the four thousand dollar solution. Maybe some time soon.
