There is a huge difference between Mallorca being infested with Germans (to the point where it is unbearable, Germans are as bad, if not worse, than America tourists), and Germany controlling Mallorca.

You're not lying man. It's cheaper to buy from a US vendor than it is to trade cash here in the EU. I can't speak for other countries, but here in NL the eternal market is quite fair and thriving. But when purchasing cards, it makes sense just to buy in USD. Recently at a yearly Legacy Open, our main trader in the country had a booth, and he was selling an Ex+ (or so it looked) UNL Lotus for 750EUR (just over 1,000USD) Moxen of the same grade were 250eur. The blue spells were 200/250 depending, of course. Of course, prices have historically been lower considering we're at an all time high for people buying into the Eternal card pool.

I brought my collection wiht me when I moved overseas a few years ago and am so glad I didn't trade it away for lunch money back stateside. The strongest currency wins out.

I think T-Chinese from back in the day was cool, but then they started printing S-Chinese, which is just awful compared to the older style. Comparing the stylings of Asian languages, I rate them as such:

Korean Style 1 (Visions, 4th) > Korean Style 2 (everything else) > Japanese > T-Chinese > S-Chinese.

After that visit its no surprise that countries like Slovenia and the Czech Republic are blowing by Portugal in terms of GDP/capita. If Portugal didn't receive all the support it does from the EU it would be a complete disaster area. This is why Portuguese is the least pimp language there is.

Lisbon is a very old city, is natural that it looks old. Portugal as his borders since 1297 "Tratado de Alcanizes", we are the oldest country in Europe.

You call japanese pimp but I will let you know that Portuguese language is the ocidental language with more influence in their culture. Pan, butan and some other japanese words came from us. The Portuguese arrived in Japan in 1543. Japan was known since the time of Marco Polo, who called Cipango. But the Portuguese were actually the first Europeans to arrive in Japan. The Portuguese also introduced into Japan firearms, and new knowledge in medicine, astronomy, mathematics, and teaching the art of navigation by the Portuguese.

Regarding portuguese speakers from portugal and spanish ones from spain probably about 80%. If you talk slowly you can perfectly have a conversation between spanish and portuguese speakers.
Regarding portuguese speakers from brazil and spanish speakers from south america it might be more difficult. I am spanish and personally understand nearly every word from a person from portugal, but have more troubles understanding brazilian ones. And I suppose viceversa goes the same.

I took 5 years of Italian classes and I find it's pretty easy to read other Latin or romance languages. They're all quite similar and if you can just break them down, it's not too hard. Speaking/listening to the languages though, I find to be more difficult.

Italian ortography is very difficult. Lots of rules, exceptions and ''false friends'' are often misspelled / forgotten even by italians. Very few are able to speak and write without making even the minimum mistake. I guess it's easy to understand and speak (not to write correctly, though, unless you study Italian for a long period) for a spanish or portuguese guy, though.

Personally I've had the opportunity of studying English,Spanish and Japanese in the past. A part from English, which I hope to write at least acceptably, Spanish ortography and pronounciation were rather easy (I forgot everything I studied, though) Japanese instead was crazy difficult to write properly while grammar, pronounciation and ortography were rather simple.

Being a Spanish speaker, Portugese sounds way funnier. It's all subjective. But Portugese are way better at speaking other languages because of alllllllll the vowels and dipthongs the mother tongue possesses which translate well to other languages, pun.

My concept of Pimp has changed a lot and I still believe selling was the right thing to do. I believe the Foil Japanese market is unsustainable and will suffer some crack any day soon. Prices for new foil japanese rares/mythics ain't set any longer by a comparison system rather than an speculation process of the market.

With that said, I wanted to contribute with, my-not-so-pimp EDH Sharuum deck. There's still a lot of work in progress in the deck:

Everything that isn't english should be english.
Everything that isn't from the oldest collection available (Alpha/Beta are in the same bag here) should be.
Everything that isn't signed or altered should be signed or altered (artists only).

The obvious choice is, if you can afford it, go Summer, if you truly want to pimp. If you can't get 4 Summer Seas (anyone have 4 Summer Seas? Grandeur? Occam?), then Mint UNL would like fine if you want WB to match, or Mint FWB German would have the closest looking border to Summer.

One thing I've noticed is that when you're playing WB duals, fetchlands are THAT much easier to use :P

True NM/M UNL duals are a pain to find and quite costly. Somehow most of the ones being offered got really shady looking backsides. I used to play with UNL duals quite a long time because because they are pretty rare (13500 ea) - compared to each of the revised printruns. Anyway now I playing NM fwb because they look really nice while being pretty cheap ...

Also Rob Alexander alters are great most of the time ... just make sure they do not end up like the jap foil Delta available on MKM :tongue:

Drew Tucker teaches at a local community college; we actually got him to be a guest at our local 3-day convention last year. He seemed really nice, especially from my perspective, as I was the one who initiated him coming and the one who organizes all of the Magic events. When asked what kind of compensation he required, he quickly and firmly said "none".

So if I have a Plateau that is miscut much like Gunslinga's Confidant, is that worth any more than a regular Plateau, or are miscuts only really desirable if there's part of another card showing?

Seems to me it's a matter of taste. I don't like miscuts at all really. I have a set of Hymns, but that was only because a friend gave me one because I helped him out making his deck better and teaching him some finer points of playing. It would look bad not to use a friends present. I ended up getting another in a trade so I just decided to get 4 to make a nice set.

Some people love them and I think that the more miscut it is, the better. It just seems cooler to see the other card a little.

I figure it's like Japanese foils. Some people love them, some people are content with non-foil foreign, some despise all foreign stuff, but like foils, and some just want an English one to play with and could care less. Matter of taste as usual.

I like my foil FNM Brainstorms better than the Mercadian Masques ones for example, despite the fact I own both. There isn't too many people who agree with that.

That reminds me a tournament a while ago when I was playing Landstill and I weren't finished pimping the deck like I wanted it to be (full Alpha/Beta, non-foil).

I played a DCI Counterspell and my opponent was "wow, you have a dci counterspell!"
I was like "huh, I played 2 Beta ones before this one...":confused:

and a miscut plateau that is "only" as miscut as the dark confidant wouldnt get a big premium, if any premium at all.

for example at least 95% of all fbb german savannahs and badlands are miscut left-right. they have a small left border most of the times. in this case a centered one would be more appreciated. i´ve only seen very very few well centered savannahs for example.

this brings me to the next question - why arent there so many other left-right miscut fbb duals (or rares from the fbb rare sheet at all, anyway, i dont pay attention to non-dual-fbb-rares)

but the fact that the ratio between sav/badl and the other 8 duals is odd makes me think that the cutting machine has irregularities.

i think that because i dont assume that other miscut duals were sorted out...

besides that, i´ve never seen a real miscut fbb revised card where you can see two cards.

i meant fbb german revised. i´ve seen your aspect of wolf as well as korean 4th fbb, but korean is not revised ;-)

when this aspect exists, there might maybe also duals that look like this, or a mana vault, a wheel of fortune. any playable rare would be so pimp, i cant express in words...

I have a set of Arabian Nights that I pieced together over the years. Only a few of the cards are signed just because I happened to get them that way. I could have gotten all the Mark Tedin cards signed recently but didn't want to get my mint Juzam signed. I only like to get rare cards signed that are in less than NM condition.

i meant fbb german revised. i´ve seen your aspect of wolf as well as korean 4th fbb, but korean is not revised ;-)

when this aspect exists, there might maybe also duals that look like this, or a mana vault, a wheel of fortune. any playable rare would be so pimp, i cant express in words...

Big Binder for the huge sets (Ice Age)

But with around 50 binders it starts to gets complicated...Bought a black one for my Beta cards (BTW: My 4th Beta Sea is on its way).

I collect cards from all the Sets (you don't get to 26K of signed cards with the cards from Alpha - AL). As long as they're English. I had to draw a line. The Unsets and those blasted Duel-Decks and Lightning-Sliver-Entomb-Decks I avoid (I just can't be bothered).

For me it's the thrill to get the latest sets as "signed as possible" but today's sets are much more difficult because a) far more artists and b) a lot of them have a no sign via mail policy.

Artist death is a fact and the longer I collect/Magic continues the more artists will pass away and make the existing signed cards VERY expensive. But it's not really an issue yet.

The main problem is to track down artist X because he/she one card that I need (Kirsten Bishop and her War Elephants or Cornelius Brudi with his Beta Wanderlust / Beta Pearled Unicorn :cry: ).

I will add more sets as time goes by. Antiquities and Beta will be next (Maybe Thursday or Friday)...

I kind of miss building sets. I was building a bunch for a long time until I realized I just wasn't seeing old cards anymore to trade for. I was sad. I'd still love to finish Alpha, but it's rare to see those in trade folders at all nowadays.

Basically if you want to build an old set you have to slowly piece it together by following ebay auctions for the majority of the cards. Unfortunately that has gotten expensive in the past few years. I'm happy I finished my Arabian Nights set before old cards went crazy on ebay. I remember back in the day (around 2003) you could pick up Alpha/Beta cards for really cheap on ebay. Those days are gone for good.

I hope I'll post it soon in the future :D It is such a nice set to look at and was the first set I have ever bought back in the days.

Trust me I know about how commons are the hardest pieces to find... I collect foil sets and I currently have all of Urza's Legacy, Prophecy, Eighth Edition, Mirrodin, Darksteel, Fifth Dawn, Champions of Kamigawa, and Alara Reborn... I'm also under 20 cards away from having all of about another 5 sets.

I just had a momentary panic when I thought my goblin deck had gone missing. I could have sworn I left it in my car and couldn't find it. And given it's a mess, wasn't surprising. OK, this thread is inspiring. We all have our own likes as far as foil / language etc.

My rules are as follows (and to each their own)

- No foils, they look like something you'd find in a YGO pack (not that I've opened up)
- Language: I like the communist or former communist languages
- Chinese, Russian
- then some other languages are fine German is cool, I'm not big on Japanese
- Korean is cool where available
- If plain old Beta english is available then it trumps all (except duels ... I sold a full set of 40 betas 5-6 years ago and only had my FBB left :( )
