I'm not a fan of foils, so having a deck all-FBB is really cool to me. Also, those duals are amazing, nicely done!

Yeah, I dont get foils either but it sure makes tricking out your deck cheaper. I'd love for WotC to start doing non foil old border versions of new cards. That would be pimp. An old green border Tarmogoyf.

Also another caveat is FBB is cooler for everything *but* legends, IT legends is go gross even italian dudes hate it.

I mean, not to sound too philosophical but ... 'whatever floats your boat'. I understand why people like foils, but I started playing in 1994-95 so I'm old school. Foils belonged with Pokemon and YGO in my opinion, I also hate most new art and like the older less anime, more abstract art (maybe not to Stasis level but). Also, unless we get From the Vaults: All 10 Duals you'll never be able to completely foil out many decks anyway.

My boat is foreign non-foil and beta / legends / antiquities. I also used to have a ton of signed stuff, I regret selling it off years ago (along with my beta / alpha duals :( ). I like signed as well.

I think it's the fun of collecting and assembling whatever 'floats your boat' that defines pimp. I'll be at gencon and all my trading time will be hunting down odd foreign stuff.

Those Mana Drains are sweet. As for having different languages, I don't mind. I prefer Chinese, German and Russian. I don't really like Japanese. As for condition, that's what happens when you play with them for 15 years :) You should have seen my Alphas and Betas they were destroyed, having been played un-sleeved for years (sleeves weren't legal).

I think you are right, and the thread is 264 pages long. We might be up to a GT3 pretty soon, there are some awesome looking decks.

It's also about decks looking good in lets say... an unique way. For example all FBB german would look great to me, or all chinese cards. Foil's aren't the holy grail for most people, no matter what jamesh tries to pass as ultimate pimp goal. Maybe it flows his boat since he's most likely under the influence of old pimp dogma's, but I for one don't like foils at all.

That is pretty sweet. I too have seen a bunch of Japanese wastes some Korean also, rarely Chinese. I haven't burned on it too hard though. I'm headed to Taiwan in the fall it'll be interesting to see what I can trade for over there. The mighty Tower is a tough card in general to find in foreign. I also have an Italian one, if anyone has a Chinese tower let me know I'd be happy to swap that hot Japanese one for it. I purposely play my ancient basic beta lands because they look gnarled and veteran.

Comparing sizes, whether it is cards or cars, is just for boosting s.o. ego.

But as this is a MtG-Board I would like to see more "pimped" Decks, because they really look great and the owners of these decks put a lot of effort in it. I also like to see decks, that are all white-bordered (I know some guy, who bleached the borderes of his newer cards and now has a white-bordered Tarmogoyfs etc.)

Christ no. Leasing a car is one of the worst economic moves any human can make. Leasing gets you into "more" car than you can afford but in the end leaves you with nothing, sometimes a bill (if you bogart your miles).

This is a moot point as its already something that's pretty obvious. Houses cost more than cars, cars cost more than cards etc... In fact a lot of things cost more than cards. So what? Additionally among car enthusiasts is 60K for a car even considered expensive? Also I find most lexuses (lexi?) don't even look that much different from their cheaper/lower specced toyota counterparts. Don't get me wrong the Lexus IS-F is an outstanding car mechanically, but it doesn't really scream pimp.

But yeah back to cards: I like German > French > Eng non-foils the best. Foils are w/e. German is the best because reading the text out loud as you play the cards always gets a ton of laughs.

I have to say this before we get a mod warning for off topic, but leasing is fine so long as you can write off the payments. If not, it's not a bad way of "owning" a car, but it does leave you with nothing in 2-3 years, since the buyouts are insane.

Crucible is awesome if you are playing with utility lands you want to bring back (Cabal Coffers, Volrath's Stronghold, Academy Ruins, etc)

Scroll Rack + Land Tax just screams winning.

I play Top in EVERY Edh deck I play with. It adds way too much consistency to ignore. Only n00bs take forever to top and/or use Top incorrectly

As Alpha tends to grade lower than Beta in generally and the fact that those cards were unsleeved while taking the photo I would highly doubt than all cards would get anything above 8.5.

Well, my package came. Included was a bunch of other staple type stuff, like a set of Stoneforges, an IE Demonic Tutor for EDH, a $3 Sad Robot before they went up :), Cradle, etc.

This is the more pimp stuff. Sorry for the smudges. The Assaults are Mint, they're so nice. The Manriki is foil in case it doesn't show up, and the Taiga was a bargain at the time.

One more A/B Taiga (one's on order from a guy on MOTL) and my Aggro Loam deck will be pimped!

I've been waiting since June 25 for the package, so I'm pretty happy (Postal Strike made me reroute my mail to a member of MOTL, thanks again).

I just wanted to point out how moronic it is to pimp out decks to get props from other people. I know people tend to just show off their financial status but I think it is wise to not directly point it out because it makes you look like someone without friends, other hobbies or a real life.
Also the appreciation of that "one guy" would be worth a lot more than 1000 people thinking you are retarded to play alpha/beta duals along with worthless wb basics.

Not really. Currently the german meta mostly consists of GW Maverick, UW Stoneblade, UW Landstill and some numbers of Zoo and Folk. Also there's always those guys playing Dredge (The version with mana. I highly doubt, that the manaless version is competitive in germany, since there are a lot of black Leyline's in the sideboards, since Dredge always puts up good results.). NO RUG is also getting a bit more popular lately. But if you want to continue this discussion, we propably should take it to the Fetchland Tendrils (http://www.mtgthesource.com/forums/showthread.php?7800-Deck-Fetchland-Tendrils/page79) thread.

ok, to get german nonfoil in germany is pretty easy and no problem, but finding german foil staples in germany is a real pain in the ass. i can get almost any japanese foil within one day, but that doesnt go for german foils although i live here. but i still prefer jap foil and korean, as i love foreign characters!

That is completely inaccurate. I dislike foils because my decks can never be 100% foil. I'm pretty OCD and need all my cards to be the same, not being full foil bothers me. Because of that I collect German nonfoil cards. That can still be considered pimp imo...and if not I don't particularly care. People post things because they enjoy it and are proud of their collection, if a few people don't like it then they can just skip past the pics and not post obnoxious comments.

I'm still of the belief that foils are Mythics are just a marketing ploy, so I don't like foils. I'm don't like the way they look, no matter how much they cost.

Eh, tbh any non-english foils are really hard to come by. I've been looking forever for a set of Portuguese foil Dark Confidants, and nobody ever has any. I just don't "feel" the whole Japanese (and now Russian) thing. They're not expensive because of rarity; they're expensive because of the perception of rarity, and I guess the fact they look different.

Yeah russian at one point was just another language like italian. Now there's kind of a surge to get foil russian cards; I admit I like russian more than japanese but that's because russian is a lot harder to find than japanese cards. Recently though I've taken to german cards. I just got a foil playset of german infernal tutors and it looks sweet. Now I'm just looking for everything in german foil first; I'd love to have a completely german storm deck. It'll probably take a while to find german polluted delta's and such but it should be worth it.

I've never seen a russian goyf or a foil russian goyf for that matter. I'd bet they're worth at least 300 apiece now if not more. Unless future sight wasn't printed in russian, which would be quite sad. Russian foil goyf would be so cool to have.

dahcmai, you should raise the price of dark ritual's for me. I only have 220 copies ATM that I would love to sell at 5's apiece.

Then he raised them to $10 (I think) they were gone by Saturday. He had Russian Time Spiral for $3, I should have bought more of that and hunted for prime foils to trade to you foil junkies (Ancient Grudge, Serra Avenger, LoA).

Poole is a cool dude. He'll spend the time to talk, he's pretty old school as well with respect to the direction the art has taken (which I am as well). I had him sign some stuff I picked up at the con, and some older stuff (old FBB BoPs).

Wayne Reynolds was kind enough to sign a bunch of stuff for beer money but his signature is a disaster.

Franz Vohwinkel was really cool and puts a really nice signature on a card.

Chris Rahn was also cool and put a nice signature across a bunch of chinese Qasali's, robots and Swords.

I couldn't ever get Miracola, Susan Van Camp set a cap of 5 cards per person, and finally Dan Scott was there, he was cool but was bogged down altering Ponders.

Signed in Gold/ Silver fine point sharpie is IMO the only way to go. Rob Alexander black big Sharpie signatures make me want to vomit.

Artist / Garfield autographs are the only pimp I really care about. Having the inventor of the game or the person who drew art sign the card is the ultimate thing. It's the uniqueness of the card that drives all of us. Collecting Japanese / Russian / German / Korean or other non-English cards might be a thing. Foil is another. Collecting signed cards is just another thing. And it is MY thing ;)... I don't get foils or cards I can't read (and German sounds silly)

Personally obtaining sigs is favorable but not always possible and therefore not a priority.

Artist / Garfield alters on a signed card is a very, very nice bonus and makes the card in my eyes even more unique.

Sigs by other people than Garfield or the artist are in the same category a non-artist alters: It's a no-no for me. (Guy on picture like Bob is a grey area)

I think eBay prices on rare things like russian foils can be crazy because its just a mob mentality where people feel more comfortable bidding higher as other people bid cards up with them.

I mean if you are going to spend $600 on a japanese foil dark confidant why not spend $1000 on a russian one. You probably have the money anyway and you will feel more comfortable winning it on an eBay auction than buying it for $700 on a forum. I'd actually bet that if the person who won the confidant had been offered it in a private sale the week before it was listed for $1000 he would have passed thinking the price was insane.

Its taken me roughly a year to put this together. Everything that can be is Japanese Non-Foil/Korean, and the Underground Seas are both German. Some of the cards like the Japanese Non-Foil Tendrils of Agony and Infernal Tutors where fairly difficult to find. The playmat is something my local shop owner is working on. He's contacting MtG artists and contracting them to design custom playmats. The sideboard is rather ugly right now. All I have is a FBB Tropical Island for the Xantid Swarms, but everything else isn't that impressive. My goals for the next few months are:

Upgrade the FBB Underground Seas and Tropical Island to Beta
Upgrade the basic lands to Guru lands
Upgrade the sideboard from English to Japanese Non-Foil
Upgrade the beat Grim Tutor to NM

Do you have suggestions on where to pick up Beta Seas? My initial thought is SCG.

As a general question to people who have purchased Beta Duals. Would you suggest buying NM or SP versions of the card? I'm torn between buying a NM vs SP version of the card. Obviously, NM is going to look better. However, I will play with them weekly so purchasing NM seems somewhat risky since if I buy NM and through play (even if double sleeved) they go from NM - SP; this means a retail price decrease of $200 per card... thoughts?

SCG is fine is you feel like spending a bit extra. They have great customer service, will give you scans, and go the extra mile. But, you'll be paying a bit extra. But, you'll 100% get your card. If you're unfamiliar with the trade routes of Beta duals and don't have many connections and don't want to dick around, go this way. But, there's not much "thrill of the hunt" with this route.

You can also try Ebay, but again, make sure you find a seller with reputable feedback. I'd also try posting a Buylist on MOTL or some European forums. I know the Italian forums have quite a few pimps.

If you're playing with your Beta duals, I'd go for SP. The difference between NM and SP duals can be enormous in terms of cost and finding them. NM duals are held in most collector's hands very tightly, or will cost you an arm and a leg. SP doesn't hold as much collector value, and you won't feel as bad when you shuffle. I'm at a crossroads where I have several pack mint duals (sucks for me, I know) that I can't actually play with. Every time I would play with them, they'll decrease in value. I highly suggest buying EX or Ex+ condition duals and running with those. Just as good, wow factor is about the same, etc.

The Best place to find Beta duals is actually at big events like Gen Con or at a SCG Event. At the event, you can always haggle with dealers or just go around asking for Beta duals. Someone can usually point out the pimps.

@Fossil: Do you play Ponder Ext. Art over Japanese or just don't own them yet?
Also, Beta Dark Ritual < Japanese Dark Ritual in this deck (I do play New-Framed Dark Ritual, personally ;) ).

Nice korean Cards, but I would prefeer an all Japanese Deck just for the eye ^^
