Its taken me roughly a year to put this together. Everything that can be is Japanese Non-Foil/Korean, and the Underground Seas are both German. Some of the cards like the Japanese Non-Foil Tendrils of Agony and Infernal Tutors where fairly difficult to find. The playmat is something my local shop owner is working on. He's contacting MtG artists and contracting them to design custom playmats. The sideboard is rather ugly right now. All I have is a FBB Tropical Island for the Xantid Swarms, but everything else isn't that impressive. My goals for the next few months are:

Upgrade the FBB Underground Seas and Tropical Island to Beta
Upgrade the basic lands to Guru lands
Upgrade the sideboard from English to Japanese Non-Foil
Upgrade the beat Grim Tutor to NM

@Fossil: Do you play Ponder Ext. Art over Japanese or just don't own them yet?
Also, Beta Dark Ritual < Japanese Dark Ritual in this deck (I do play New-Framed Dark Ritual, personally ;) ).

Nice korean Cards, but I would prefeer an all Japanese Deck just for the eye ^^

I'm kind of torn on which version of Ponder to use. From a rarity and price standpoint, the Extended Art seems to be more rare and valuable than the Japanese Ponder. I have been tempted on several occasions to pick up a Japanese set of M10 Ponder, but I haven't seen one readily available to trade for, and of my list of things to spend $ on or trade for, it ranks fairly low. Plus, the Extended art is cool and besides the lands, its the only card in the deck that I can get in an extended art version.

I started out with a set of the Japanese Dark Ritual's from the Phyrexia vs the Coalition decks. However, I always knew I wanted to upgrade those. It was going to come down to Beta or Korean 4th Edition. I opted to go with the Beta Rituals because they're the most expensive, rarer than most of the others (though I don't know the print numbers for Korean 4th), and have the highest resale-ability (relative to Japanese, Foil, or Korean) if I ever needed to liquidate the cards quickly.

Overall, I wanted the rarest and/or most expensive non-foil version of cards I could find. The deck is not "complete" yet, but I opted to share it because I feel content with where its at right now.

Thank you. I opted no foil because I play fairly often and didn't want to have the value of my cards drop because my NM/SP foils all became warped just from use.

Getting a German Foil Cromat and playing it in EDH outside of German speaking countries seems insanely dumb. It has 5 activated abilities and it's a card no one plays.

Lucky punch. I know where he works and I knew that company was at one of these conventions you Americans have and then I found two guys willing to get those cards signed for me. One was successful and is my personal hero since yesterday.

An absurdly high amount. Both in time and money because finding 40 NM beta duals is ridiculously hard. But I'd have to estimate it to be about 25 grand in all.

Yes, there's definitely a difference between Mint and NM. Some Beta's out of the pack aren't even Mint. It's hard to find true Mint, well centered, un-handled. Many "Mint" duals have slightly whitening from being picked up off of a scanner deck using your fingers, which is a huge no-no.

I started to collect these cards 5-10 years ago and back then it was hard to come by Beta cards in NM-Mint condition and I can imagine how hard it is now. I made some searches and could not find many Beta cards in NM-Mint condition at all, especially duals.

These cards are all part of my personal collection and I do NOT play with them. They are stored in a soft sleeve which is inserted in a toploader and then to protect it from damp etc I have the toploader stored within a team bag. I also have the collection stored in a safety deposit at my bank.

At one point I actually thought of selling of three of the playsets of the duals since only one is neccesary for the collection. But then I changed my mind since as you say it is extremely hard to come by and it wont be easier in the future.

None of the cards are signed or have any alterations etc. In my oppinion that destroys the cards, even the artists signature! But that is just my thoughts on collecting.

Just a note; these cards are all 100% real and authentic. I know how to spot a fake and I have stumbled upon fakes, very good fakes which almost is impossible to spot and those which are obvious. It is to bad that people are doing such, it destroys the collecting hobby.

It is always fun to talk to other collectors which share the same interest and appriciate it.

I will do a complete hi-res scan of all of my cards, but it will take some time. Meanwhile maybe I can tease you with these and you other as well:

i usually agree, but these look hot. for such kind of cards we will get a lot of different opinions, therefore i´m not sure if they carry any premium at all. but i´d rather see the artwork on mint/nm fbb seas. german or french, because their colors are the better than from a/b/u and italian fbb.

I personally think these are the SHITNUTZZZ hot! Of course this is coming from a guy who stood in line for 2 hours to have Jason Chan alter my playset of Foil Jaces (2 Jap foil) and 3 hours to have Daarken alter my 2 Judge Foil Demonic Tutors and other staples. I find personalised cards awesome and unique. I'm all for artist altered/signed etc etc. They are one of a kind and have the "wow" factor. Some guys may think I'm crazy, but I don't plan to sell my cards unless an earthquake hit and I have to sell my beauties to survive.

The Bob actually went to the second highest bidder, since the guy who bid 1k backed out. It actually now sold for $650, which is completely correct (Jap Foil is 600).

I didn't bid quite that high, as cool as it was. I just bought a non-foil Russian one, since they look just as cool, and I'm not a huge fan of foils (mind you, if I picked up the Foil Confidant for my max bid, I'd have been happy and played with it).

This thing is much rarer than each alpha rare and its playability is beyond all standards.

It is just funny to think that russian is equal to japanese in some cases, for example russian tends to be much more expensive if someone offers a playset or the buyer already has three copies of the given card. Otherwise the premium might range from 0-30%.

But on the other hand - a full goyf or bob playset wouldnt end for 3500$ because the bidders wont have that much liquid cash.

There's probably no more than 100 of russian foil Dark Confidants. Russian Ravnica had a really small print run.

There's approximately ~20-30 in Russia that we know of (and uh, there shouldn't be a lot that we don't know of - the community is compact), I don't think there're many more outside of Russia. Sans the above estimate.

Or let me put it another way: I have no problem finding any given alpha rare over the internets. You wouldn't find any foil russian Confidants for sale anywhere, ever (that ebay auction is an exception). Not even in Russia.

I distinctly remember pricing out Foil Thoughtseizes a while ago (at least a year ago), but come to think of it, they may have been Jap Foil (and therefore priced at ~150+). My bad; After looking up pricing, 150 is far too high for English foil. Russian Foils ones should be approx the same or a *tad* more than Jap Foils then. Whoops!

so i guess these russian ones are in the ballpark of around 400$ for both due to the fact that one is signed and one is not. at least i wouldnt mind buying them for 400$

if both were signed i´d say 225-250$ each, if both unsigned, also 225$ each.

i just cant imagine that many people pay a premium for nonuniform cards. although this signature isnt too hard to get, so maybe there is someone willing to pay 450$ for both.

Nice non YGO foreign stuff. Sometimes you can't be picky with FBB duals, I happen to have kept my old ~30 something FBB duals from when I sold out 6-7 years ago. When I started playing again last year I would have been hosed without them. Some of mine are French as well. Picked up a German Bayou and Italian Plateau to complete my 40. I though I had 40 FBB fetches but in fact I'm 1 Windswept Heath and 1 Flooded Strand short.

The fact is, while you live in Europe and enjoy a larger supply of FBB duals, the majority of people on the Source do not. "Decent contacts", as ambiguous as you say, are not easy to find, either. Hence, FBB duals, in any condition, are still considered "pimp" by most.

It isn't legal in Commander, but then and again it's still a great piece, and is the lesser of the pieces I acquired.

Like all 5D prints, there is only one of each. At most, two, but I've never seen any surface on the open market. 5D prints aren't like Exodus test prints, where foil CoTs are into 3 digits. 5D prints are firmly in 1996WC territory when it comes to rarity. People forget that sometimes.

This will be the one and only serious post I will ever make in this thread.

Most of you people who got excited about me acted like you are using the internet for 15 minutes. Obviously a lot of the statements I made in this thread (especially regarding the last two pages) were ironic, sarcastic or with the intent to troll people.

For example saying that the Spanish and the French language are "subhuman" and saying that I speak both in one sentence should seem strange to anyone who reads it. I am really able to speak both languages and I do like both languages (along with their countries, people, food, peculiarities and so on).

If you look at the last page closely you may see that "lorddotm" started again and again a second time with posting silly rant (implying that his personal taste is more worth than mine [while being as far away from Japanese foil {if you want to take this as a scale for the "pimp" factor of a deck} as me]) and because he hated on my cards with great ignorance I took the invitation to go on with discussions in that manner. Generally I am a truly liberal person and never intended to be "pimp" in any way. I enjoy seeing pictures of neat cards and always try to give something back if I got something to share. I do not follow any rules or guidelines and never hated on anybody because he did not follow them - how often I had to read "jap foil or gtfo" or "go big or go home" in here and generally disapproved regarding the topic of those statements. I generally do not dislike any language even if I appreciate some languages more than others.
The only thing which I really dislike are playsets out of different editions with different pictures ... which should be not that far fetched.

That said I guess most of you people sensed no kind of humor and no attempts to troll truly ignorant people in my posts which makes me some kind of sad.

3. a) I am pretty sure you are a "smurf" (colloquial for a second account) of someone without the courage to post something that absurd with his real account.

Definitely not anywhere near a summer serendib in price, but comfortably into 4 figures. As for what other cards are test prints from 5D, I've only ever seen a handful, and I already own the best ones. I've posted the EE test print before, and I still believe it's the priciest test print around.

5D foil test prints have the sunburst pattern you see on some of the JSS promos (Elvish Champ etc). It makes complete sense as well if you look at the timeline. These cards don't scan well, but the foiling is very obvious if you ever happen to see one.

The 13+ - cards are complete blank "Magic cards" that are found within the Promo-cards packages on the bottom. I collect those and use them as "separater" between editions...I have my Alphas and Betas in the same binder.

The reason that the Beta set is not 100% signed is simple: I am not finished yet (the project is on going).

I know 2 people that have a complete signed AQ set. I haven't met anyone with another complete signed set.

There are two reasons:
a) It's bloody hard work.
b) Getting cards signed is a niche hobby for the majority of people.

A lot of artists in early sets just don't sign anymore (Daniel Gelon / Quinton Hoover / Cornelius Brudi). Finding people who have that specific card AND are willing to let it go is insanely difficult.

Others attend maybe 1 convention a year (Anson / Mark P / Rich Thomas) if you're lucky.

Finding out if certain artists like Kev Brockschmidt, Andi Rusu or Fay Jones are still alive and would be willing to sign some Magic cards took a lot of persuasion, luck (found a guy that had a complete Fay Jones signed collection...same with Daniel Gelon) and time and was not done in 1 google query or 1 email.

Mark Tedin, Dan Frazier or Ron Spencer are the easy ones. They sign everything, are very nice guys and have a fairly quick turn around. But they are in the vast minority (when talking about the sets of the 90's).

Thanks for the insight into the type of effort you've had to put forth to acquire your collection. I find this part of the "pimp" thread as equally interesting as looking at sweet rare cards. The Hall of Gemstone or the Silhouette are perfect examples why I collect signed cards. Both cards are junk and 99.99% of the Magic population don't care about them. But having them signed (or the Silhouette altered by Kaja) makes them special and very sought after (by me at least).

If you look close enough you can notice 1 japanese Gftt. I usually go with english but sometimes i get other language foils at same price or cheaper than english ones and i cant restrain myself.

Nice stasis collection you have there Markers. I don't believe Fay Jones signs stasis' anymore so those are insanely valuable at least in my eyes. The reason? Fay Jones hates the art on stasis with a passion for being her worst piece.

Actually the lot I uploaded contained some very cheap pieces...the german monolith was 45€ and the japanese one 75€, both came from the same person and are pack-mint!

still missing 2 cards for the complete legacy set in foil and german. anyone who can help me is much appreciated! I dont mind paying 300% of the english foil price. Phyrexian Plaguelord and Bone Shredder are missing!

I wish I could but I don't have foil german plaguelord's or bone shredder's I'm sorry to say. The bone shredder should be harder; it's a cube staple and obviously foil german legacy card's aren't the easiest to come by at least in the U.S.

Yeah good luck with the ensnaring bridge as well. Those are pretty hard to find in 7th foil.

I got 2 Chi GSZ foils from different sources and at first glance they can seem identical. But you'll notice the difference when you look long enough.
One is Simplified or S-Chinese and the other is Traditional or T-Chinese from Taiwan.

Nope. Even if I did, I think I wouldn't have it signed. Too many collectors over there would have a heart attack if they ever saw a signed summer stasis, I think. Something about ruining cards :D

"AP" as in "Alpha"? Because those corners do not look like Alpha, more like International/Collector's Edition. Or is it the sleeve?

More pictures when I regain access to a good camera. It's all mismatched at the moment because I was manically upgrading everything so I could give the hand-me-downs to a close friend as a wedding gift in June, so I was just grabbing whatever pimp things I could find. My goal is to eventually have the whole deck in German (foil where possible, obviously save duals and Hymns). I'd like it all to match, but the look on his face was so fucking worth it.

I don't know who's sign is on Masticore, but it looked cool, so I had to buy it.
There are two Alexanders signs in Strand.
