Well, I'd say the first thing you can start doing is live with your parents. If I had to pay rent, this wouldn't ever even happen. I try to cut expenses in other areas of my life. Cutting out the $5 lattes once to twice a day builds up quite a bit of money, and switching to a car that's good on gas helps.

One of my friends asked me if I was dating fat girls, which I am not. But apparently, they're in need of love too, so maybe you could try that direction. Male gigolo seems like a good gig, I figure.

new crap ive gotten yesterday. Walked in the store and a guy offered me this crap. He knew i had a UGLY White border Mox sapphire and knew i only want signed crap. Upgraded my white border for another LOL white border signed sapphire. he added 2x FOW`s in the trade.

I joined the 40 Beta dual club last month. How I did it you ask.

I sold about 10-15K worth of extra Legacy and Modern staples to earn most of them. Wizards announcing Modern was the best thing that could have happened to me. I hoarded rares like no other and when the feeding frenzy began I was one of first in line to make a mint.

Of course having 10 before they exploded helped as well. I bought NM-M copies of each one mostly from the same dealer over a two month period for around $2000. How would you all like to pay those 2008-09 prices? Now it's difficult to find two blue duals for that.

Yeah Demon, you're lucky. I had a Scrubland and a Savannah when I started in December 2010, so far, I've gotten 28 or 29 without having to really sell anything, at least yet. My plan to finish the set it probably just to either a) wait until my line of credit bumps up when I go to Med School, or b) just sell my Revised dual lands :tongue:

Yeah I sold my revised duals. I got them in 2000 when they sold for around 10 bucks each. It was really hard to sell them. Especially when I only got four Beta duals in return, however three were blue.

I find joy in going: Ancient Tomb. Chrome Mox ... Imprinting Moat. Trinisphere.

Untap. Plains. Tap out. Moat. So not only do you have a Moat in play. You have so many Moats that pinning them under Chrome Mox is fine.

Game 1:

Turn 1: Plains, Black Lotus, Elspeth, token, pass. I won this.

Game 2:

Turn 1: Mana Vault off a plains, tap for Morph Exalted Angel.

Turn 2: Plains, Lotus, crack for Blue, flip my Morph, with the last blue Floating, Ancestral Recall.

Turn 3: Swamp, Contract from Below.

I won this one as well :p

Wait, how could you possibly win those games? Contract in a cube makes me smile however... My absolute favorite card ever. Still attempting to get an alpha playset (for 5color), but they have been hard to find.

Also, after some extremely irritating mail issues in germany, Blizzard96 has shown that he is quite the stand up individual, and is sending me another shipment of #jpfoils (if you are on twitter, use this tag!) that I needed for Zur, along with some extras at a discount! Thanks man! For everyone else, Zur is roughly 6(?) cards away from complete pimpness, and I will be rescanning once it has been completed. After that has happened I need to convince someone with a mint A/B twister to swap for my mint ( signed :/ ) one. Oh, and that summer upgrade...

Finally got around to putting my Nic Fit (Rector build) up. It's still a work in progress, but it's getting there. It's almost entirely foiled except for new additions (the Mindcensors). Old stuff that can't be foiled is going to be Korean, new stuff that can be foil is going to be Jap Foil (not doing Korean foil....don't like the new Korean stuff). Duals are going to be German fbb (2 Bayous and a Savannah done so far). I'm not sure how the pictures turned out -- if there's questions about what's what, let me know. Note that only 3 of my Explorers are Korean right now ... if anyone has any beads on a 4th, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Well, this thing called variance is not really something I can control. I won almost all my game 1's, but then lost the second due to variance. Imagine not drawing a single answer/threat after 5 fetches + Top in Play and brainstorms. That's just unlucky.
The deck is awesome in testing and I just love my counterbalances. Entreat is such an "oops-i-win" card which the deck really needs.

Got some compliments on how the deck looked though :)

Deck is indeed awesome, mad props on pimp stuff.
..Altough, you do realize, now that you came so far, you will need to upgrade your brainstorms, fetchlands and counterspells. Just don't break my heart and say you love the ugly new DCIs :S

I wouldn't call 3 draws and 2 losses 'unlucky' or 'variance'. Seems your deck just isn't fast enough and/or your sideboard(ing) is bad if you lose all game 2's.

I love my special foil brainstorm... from GP Amsterdam. That's why they won't be upgraded. Fetches I prefer Onslaught, but they're very hard to find and I do like how DCI looks. Counterspells are awesome due to art + flavor ;)

Pretty much. Either some form of misprint, miscut, or signed, or some combination of such. I'd like to get a consistent look for them like same picture/miscut and possibly signed, it's just difficult to find any at all so I pick up what I can. Outside of Ebay I don't really have a good resource to track them down, and even then they're rare on there.

The policy is very straight-forward. Does it have a Magic: The Gathering back with "Deckmaster" and a black border? If so, it's legal. If not, it's not legal. (Gold-frame World Champ cards are NOT legal)

It sounds very self justified to allow people play with actual flip cards (not everbody uses the checklists) but not allow xyz backed misprints. Given this, the policy doesn't seem straightforward at all and it is very clearly a double standard.

I agree - I think DFC are an abomination to the game. Ban Delver and its ilk?

Proving to a judge that the checklist is representing Delver is much easier in English when the card is 90% covered in paint than it would be in Korean. Besides, I only commissioned those so I could burn them in front of all the Standard players. #banDelver.

The actual Delver cards I own are in Korean however :)

I really like your EE's Alsan, especially the second one. I like the first one because for sunburst it says solarisation. I like the name of the italian one quite a bit. Although, why do you run only 2 griselbrand in your list? Seems like a full playset is warranted right now, unless you're trying to play around surgical extraction.

Well I admit I was bit hasty, chinese foil Chain of Vapor was sold on ebay for $30. Theres hardly any premium for the non-foil Riptide Laboratory however.

I've been playing reanimator for years, and now as everyone knows, it "should" play a full set of Grisels, but in fact that is the easiest way to defeat reanimator, with a bad combination of creatures. Last 2 GPs showed that that's right.

Both EE are foil, as the rest of the deck (the scans are only good, not Nm xD). I like both, but I need those in Jap foil. I love that card :).

It depends if we're talking possibility versus dream. A Summer Dual land playset would pretty much be the greatest, or the 1996 World Champion, but neither is actually going to happen.

In all honesty, if it could only be one singular card, I'd have to think about it. My thoughts are probably a Blackbordered Foil Survival of the Fittest, since Survival is one of my favourite cards ever, or something of similar rarity. A Summer Sea would be pretty nuts as well, but the original art to something like Wheel of Fortune would also be cool.

My birthday is coming up Julian, if you feel so inclined :)

I've been hunting the last foils I need for my legacy decks and it took me.. wel, lots of time. Getting signed cards, findind, contacting artists, keeping evidence of cards, having them sorted in some way, well.. I just can't imagine..

A lot of time...My financé luckily has a different job schedule than I do :laugh:...I'd say 10 - 15 hours a week...I can't really put all cards in their binders I have a backlog which I try to reduce but in weeks like these...no chance...

it seriously looks good but if i were playing against you i'd be really distracted.

Any more distracted then if a deck was entirely foil and foreign? Unless you're referring to being distracted because you think he could somehow be cheating I can't imagine why my opponents not being able to pay attention to the game would be a good reason for me to not be able to play a deck.

(@sdematt not starting an argument over whether those alters are legal, just stating that "being distracted" for whatever reason does not seem like a valid reason for a palyer to be unable to play a deck)

Theres large difference between altered and foreign foils - the pictures are different and large number of people recognize cards by their art.

Although the Karador deck I'm working on is also pretty sweet in German.....its creature type is Zentaur =D

edit -- speaking of my project to German/German foil my EDH...does anyone have a bead on where I might find a german foil Draining Whelk? I'll be going to GP Boston, and Mark Tedin will be in attendance. I am definitely a fan of getting my pimp signed, so if I could take advantage of Tedin being there to check the Whelk off my list completely, that would be fantastic. Global / German eBay don't appear to have any German-language foils, though, and I don't really know where else to look that would ship to the US =(

I'm going to try to scan in my deck and see if that goes better. Should I leave the deck in its sleeves, or will the reflectivity of them be a problem? I could try to scan it in just its undies (perfect fits), if that'd make the cards more visible....haven't tried a scanner before. Any advice would be appreciated.

Any more distracted then if a deck was entirely foil and foreign? Unless you're referring to being distracted because you think he could somehow be cheating I can't imagine why my opponents not being able to pay attention to the game would be a good reason for me to not be able to play a deck.

(@sdematt not starting an argument over whether those alters are legal, just stating that "being distracted" for whatever reason does not seem like a valid reason for a palyer to be unable to play a deck)

Well ... foreign cards are legal because legal Magic the Gathering cards get printed in languages other than English.

Oh man, film cameras. I still love them deeply and use them from time to time, but unless you're a professional photographer who prefers film, for what most people are taking pictures of (drunken friends, car accidents, Magic cards), your iPhone is just fine.

German Sylvan Libraries (Waldesbibliothek, good luck pronouncing that) are available in black borderd Renaisannce (including Legends symbol), white borderd 4th and white borderd 5th. There are plenty of them available on MKM. They are quite nice, I used to play a renaissance example in my EDH, until I picked up an original Legends example in good condition.

Speaking of funny German card names: I get a lot of comments on my German foil Dimir/Golgari/Simic Signets in EDH, because apparently Signet in German is Petschaft, and, well, magic players will be magic players.

To this day, I have never ever heard that word and I'm under the impression (or maybe illusion?) that my German is quite good.

that´s exactly my taste! especially the deltas =) i love the deck!
got me 4 more jap foil deltas now too, have 7 now, got them to have some spare pieces for trading =)
you can never have enough of those!

but what i dont like so much are the flooded strands, the rob signature is way too thick, nevertheless - amazing!

the korean is very nice too! i like mixed languages, but stuff like legacy belcher or legacy storm are deck where you can have a pretty wide amount of the cards in the same language, pretty much the whole deck was printed in japanese, excluding just the 4 duals. if i were playing a deck where a uniform foreign language would be possible i would do it!

but of course everyone´s taste is different, and it changes not the fact that it is a lovely deck!

do you have any personal plans for upgrading some stuff (except signatures i dont know how you would exactly do that, since everything i see has already the best version if i didnt misunderstand your way of pimping)

That's a really good question, but I chose to play versions where the picture fits in my taste. Also PiF is japanese because wanted to keep korean foils out of that deck.

@Dernestor: There's not so much I can do to that deck in it's current state, even Dark Rituals have to be 4th edition because of its picture.

Currently I'm trying to finish my Sneak&Show. It's only missing 1 Emrakul russian foil and 1 Griselbrand russian foil. And of course my Merfolk of the Pearl Trident global set which, thanks m13 is even harder to complete:smile:

Yes, the sleeves are quite dirty. Oh well.

On a different note, I found out (I think) there are different font's in Simplified Chinese, and the new one is pretty ugly. An example:

As far as I know, the Glen Elendra Archmage is some new font of simplified Chinese, the Skullclamp and Riptide Lab are old font simplified. Anyone knows which sets have the old font of simplified Chinese (the one from Onslaught and Darksteel)? Or is the Glen Elendra not simplified Chinese at all?

Elendra is traditional chinese. After Mirrodin they've stopped printing in Simplified Chinese. New prints of Traditional Chinese are pretty horrible. Old (bold) Simplified chinese is for my taste best looking foreign languge, closely folowed by Korean , but only on nonfoils, somehow I can not get used to seeing foil Korean cards.. just doesn't feel right.

No, they didn't print Glen Elendra Archmage in traditional Chinese, I'm pretty sure. They stopped printing traditional Chinese in 2003, like you said. They started printing traditional Chinese again with the release of M11.

Don't usually pimp out things, but I'm a dedicated Death & Taxes player and a colleague said I should post some of my foiled-out stuff, so I figured I'd share.

These were the hardest to find by far, and certainly the most expensive of the cards I've purchased for this deck. Nevertheless, worthy every damn cent.

Admittedly I'm far from fully foiling D&T--I still require four Swords to Plowshares, Wasteland, Rishadan Port, Enlightened Tutor and Aether Vial foils, along with 11 foil snow-covered plains. Here's to hoping FTV: Realms has goodies!

Thanks for the positive feedback. I fell in love with D&T almost a year ago and, while I've played other Legacy decks and am in the process of building a few, this will always be my baby. Will post any additional foils I amass soon!

So basically all the pimp I was waiting for came in today in one batch. Of course the mailman bangs down my door like a madman, so I think it's a neighbour with an emergency, so I answer with no jeans. Of course.

I'll put scans up later, but a rough list:

Beta Hypnotic Spectre (switching out my Alpha one for it for the Beta Cube)
Beta Zombie Master (upgrade for my played one)
Beta Ankh of Mishra (switching out my Alpha one for it for the Beta Cube)
2 Legends Sylvan Library (so now I have 4)

and most of the stuff I needed to finish pimping Rock fully into Russian, ex. Surgical Extraction, Zealous Persecution, Fetchlands, Garruk, Tracker, etc.

Never imagined I'd pay this much for a mox, but I needed a BB Sapphire for my collection. The prices on these things keep going up so I figured I might as well bite the bullet now. I was very close to buying a HP Sapphire at the SCG Kansas City event this weekend. It was in worse condition than this and they wanted more money for it (plus I got some ebay bucks :tongue:). I'm glad I was patient and waited a bit.

A year or so ago I picked up a really quite nice looking HP Beta Emerald for $400 at an SCG event. Those days are gone.

They also had a really beat up Beta Lotus they wanted 2K for. That's about double the price it would have been a year ago. My friend picked up a pretty nice looking HP Unl Lotus for 1K.

Now I just need to get a BB Jet and I'm done with this craziness... (well, I need a BB Time Vault and Time Twister too!:confused:)

Where would you go? It's hard to find local individuals willing to sell them off like you could 5 or 6 years ago. I used to get good deals that way by bringing cash to big tourneys and finding someone who wanted to cash out on some power cards. People just don't have the cards anymore. They're all sitting in collections. The big retailers have all jacked their prices up and the BIN's on ebay are usually crazy expensive. Auctions rarely fire. A played crimped one just ended for over 1200. Does the crimp really make it that much more valuable?

So jealous right now. I will literally kill for a Korean Veteran Explorer at this point, if you have extras. Dunno how many you got. What sweet stuff was there in the German box?

Also, why wouldn't they have gone through the boxes and pulled out stuff like Land Tax that's actually worth money. 50c foreign commons and uncommons I can see, but I'm really surprised they didn't pull some of that stuff. Here's hoping they bring more unsorted boxes with them to GP Boston...I'd love a crack at that :|

Thanks. I stole your idea for the tokens (I went with Alpha because they are way sexier than Beta, but my preference is probably obvious based on my selection of power).

Sadly, I'm not at GenCon (not that I would part with my Russian Thoughtseize anyway :tongue:). Just sitting around trying to find out how much ass B.C. is kicking in Vintage Champs at the moment.

ya, everything is FOIL if you cants see the shining part of it ( incl. the Bob's ). The only thing that is not foil are the JP signed delta's which i just swapped them from reg eng. Foil's. (i prefer regular JP over Foil eng. )

Sweet homarids brah. So here at Gencon, the Toad officially gave up on getting foriegn cards up on the site and threw out 3 5,000 count boxes of korean, russian, jap, chinese, german and spanish stuff. All you can eat, .50 each. I got there first. 202.00 later and after cleaning the spooge out of my pants .... highlights include, korean serenities, veteran explorers, land tax, humility, mana severences .... it was a hat and circle orgy.

Sweet mother of god...Just korean land taxes alone are worth something like $40+ currently and you got them for .50 cents? Wow. Same with humility being 40 and it sounds like you went infinite. I would give almost anything to be given an hour with those boxes by myself. Sounds like you went infinite. I'm surprised at Toad doing this, wonder why they didn't just look through and pull out cards of value and sell them to other dealers for a lot more than 50 cents apiece but maybe they felt like being generous (highly unlikely.)
