My new Mental Magic Deck. I showed up with this last night and had to prove they were real cards hence the ripped up one to show the middle blue layer of glue. They are blank on front and the back has trademark info for wizards. Not sure what they are from but there was about 200 in a collection I purchased. Used them forever to get people to draw tokens for me.

We normally use those flat marbles to keep track of mana cost since this is the first time anyone actually showed up with a deck to play. I am thinking of dry erase marker on the sleeve to write the card on

If they have a normal Magic back then they are probably peeled foils, if they aren't actual magic cards then I'd imagine they are the filler cards that came/come with the FNM promos that stores give out.

This is correct. I have a large stack of them as my buddy who works at my LGS gives all of theirs to me; I use them for proxies.

I don't actually agree with that fully.

Sometimes, you get a card reprinted in foil where there was previously no foil version (Flusterstorm, Brainstorm, Dark Ritual, for example). Most people would say those foil versions are more pimp than the nonfoil original print run cards.

I'm a little weird in that sometimes, I'll just like the reprint art more. A big example of this one for me is the promo Path to Exile vs the foil Shards. I do recognize though that the foil Shards is considered more pimp - that one is just a personal preference of mine. In general, I do like foils from the first version they're available from as is typical of most people who like foils.

also, karakas foil is ugly as hell and i would rather play the original art english than those ugly foils w/ starburst all over the bottom of the card.

on rare ocasion the Starburst at the bottom doesnt bother me if the card has the old bordern as cards with the older border are typically more vibrant. for example, the judge dark confidant has the original picture which is the preferred and the border makes the card really pop while is on the field instead of just look dark. The foils with the newer borders often look dark instead of shiny and thats one of my main complaints with the new border foils.

Oh yeah, original foils hold their value better.... take the rav lands as an example. Foil rav lands are about double their reprint counterparts. Not to mention that their artwork is better imo.

I'm new here and actually quite new to this whole pimp stuff. I do own some nice jap foils, signed cards, oldschool and other nice cards. However, I don't know any good site where you can purchase pimp.

The sites I use atm include ebay and magiccardmarket.eu. Yeah, they are good and you will most likely be able to find what you are looking for but I prefer something like eternalcentral, a forum where "magic pimps" trade stuff with eachother. Is anyone still active over there? Is there any other forum which is similar?

It doesn't have every LD spell printed. Because you don't need them all, you need all the 2's and 3's (save maybe Fallow Earth ... though I'm considering it and if I had a German one it would probably make the cut). The random 4's that don't destroy other stuff aren't good enough (Poison the Well). Even creeping mold has been obsoleted by Bramblecrush. I also want to keep the curve reasonable. Really the only LD that matters is finding Strip Mine. Find Strip Mine and a recursion effect; loam / crucible / Nregrowth effects. Just strip the fucking living shit out of everyone. Crucible, strip Azusa is glorious. When you have some spare mana in between Icequaking everything drop Skullbriar and let him feast on some brains. Some stuff I need to treasure hunt at Gencon for that I don't have upgrades for:

- German Thermokarst
- German Icequake
- another German Necro
- another German Crop Rotation
- German Lotuskobra
- German Phyrexian Arena

A local (former) Atlanta player who shall remain unnamed actually had some foil SFMs (maybe even foil jap) and actually turned them over to get altered. He picked them up th enext day at the GP and they looked like Barney and Grimace ejaculated on them then smeared their purple semen around.

I've been working on getting some nicer cards for Enchantress. I have 6 guru forest, 2 guru plains, 2 french FBB savannah, and 1 Italian FBB Taiga right now. I'm not a huge fan of foils or cards in Russian/Japanese/Korean/etc. I do think they look awesome in other peoples decks, just not really for me. If anyone has any ideas for nonfoil English upgrades here, aside from A/B duals, I would love suggestions. The deck it self changes shape a lot. This is just what I played today for a go around. I'm working on a FBB tropical island to play energy field/helm/RIP Enchantress as well.

I've been working on getting some nicer cards for Enchantress. I have 6 guru forest, 2 guru plains, 2 french FBB savannah, and 1 Italian FBB Taiga right now. I'm not a huge fan of foils or cards in Russian/Japanese/Korean/etc. I do think they look awesome in other peoples decks, just not really for me. If anyone has any ideas for nonfoil English upgrades here, aside from A/B duals, I would love suggestions. The deck it self changes shape a lot. This is just what I played today for a go around. I'm working on a FBB tropical island to play energy field/helm/RIP Enchantress as well.

I play E-Field / Value Enchantress every now and then ... I like your deck, it looks clean. I was actually thinking of bringing Enchantress this week; as I haven't seen a Deed in a while.

Also, the Squirrels Vintage decks looks great. Honestly, I don't really know how it works exactly but I'm sure it's a blast. Some of those alters look incredible too. I imagine anyone you play against has a awesome time too!

If you cant foil out a deck entirely then you're just fooling yourself. No foil Alpha duals is a death sentence for pimping decks. It's also considered cheating by some judges.

Nah, we just do what we can then.

Any judge who thinks you're playing alpha/beta duals in your foil deck to cheat probably needs to have their head examined. As long as they're not discernable from the rest of the deck, it should be tournament legal.

Depends who you talk to.
A store/buylist will knock them down to SP or less because they're vandalized, but the secondary market can go either direction. Just depends on if people want the signatures.

If you don't plan on getting rid of your stuff what does it matter. I think among eternal aficionados nice gold / silver ink is desirable though to each their own. Some people hate signed cards.

i know these cards are garbage, but considering that i had no cards and 0 knowledge of magic the gathering in October....and the fact that i have a standard deck green/black aggro with signed cards. invested only $7 in magic total. i think it's pretty decent?

at any rate i had fun meeting artists, getting cards signed and playing against decks worth 1000X what my cards are worth. ( i beat a standard deck at a FNM i attended running 4 Korean foil signed thragatusks with my 3 rancor on an acidic slime with my cheapo standard deck :P )

i have 2 pyroblasts and 2 hydroblasts in the mail.

i have met asshole artists, i've met awesome artists, and i've discovered which local card shops are decent, which are slimey, and which members of the magic the gathering "community" to avoid (most of it). still working on this legacy layout because i wanted a legacy deck when i first joined despite nobody playing to format here.

top row: foil basic lands (working on more)
second row: Grim lavamancers (1 foil), appetite for brains (signed), hymn to tourach, japanese dark ritual, duress (foil), counterspell

i have been insulted on multiple occasions by "regulars" at two specific comic book shops in the area.
another hobby of mine is building California legal assault rifles, AR-15, ak's etc on cal guns.

i've met nicer people in the firearms community (goatee, tattoo'd, 6'+ guys) holding badass rifles than in the magic the gathering community (skinny young kids, or older overweight/obese balding men in trench coats, hoodies, ironic baggy graphic tee shirts) holding plastic deck boxes with "guild symbols"

i was trying to setup a DCI number and asking how the tournament worked and who was who, since the organizers of the event just yelled out first name vs first name like everyone was on a first name basis.

and an obese (can't stand) shop employee on an office chair, in a cowboy hat, with a name tag that said "winston" sat there and called me a "dumbass" for over 15 mins as he set my DCI number up and told me to leave the front counter.

i don't know what the hell he did since when i input my dci number into the WOTC website, it says it's invalid. i'm thinking he may have banned me from his tournament format. since he took a picture of me with the shop webcam, asked for my address, and name.

If you cant foil out a deck entirely then you're just fooling yourself. No foil Alpha duals is a death sentence for pimping decks. It's also considered cheating by some judges.

A/B/FBB duals + FOIL (when available) is still sex.

I didn't know that 4 pieces of cardboard could buy a brand new car. Well done, sir. Russian foil playset of JTMS is amazing and not something you see every day.

Scavenging ooze was the promo for steam/iPad/android for buying DotP 2014. Pretty easy to find right now, you can get a playset on ebay for around $40/10 a pop/very little.

Over the years I had been picking up more power and at some point decided to go for black border. This past weekend at GP Kansas City I picked up my last two pieces of black bordered power - a Beta Time Twister and a Beta Time Vault. For the first time I have a complete set of black border power cards.

I hear you on that one! I'm up to 38/40 for Unlimited duals, only missing 2x Plateau. I would keep purchasing them sooner than later, as I can see them as one of the next SCG price jumps.

Yeah, I normally just try to trade revised duals + additional value for Unl ones. But it's difficult to find people with Unl duals except for big events like GPs. And I hate to purchase them at the insane prices they are at now. I got all my duals back in the day when they were a fraction of what they are now. About 10 years ago I remember trading a beat unl sinkhole for two mint Underground Seas. Those days are long gone....

Glad someone other than me is into the FWB duals. I'm slowly replacing my revised ones with FWB german, basically trolling ebay for them, as they almost never turn up in the US. I've got three FWB german tundras in the mail, and that'll be enough to let me play almost any multicolor blue deck with all FWB german duals. Been working towards that for years!

Not a chance. Either the game is dead or Alpha Black Lotus is 10-15% more than now or even more if vintage takes off with MOL. Foil JTMS isn't going to be worth close to it. He'll be reprinted in Wal Mart by then. Actually he'll probably get a foiling in FTV: 20 since he pretty much owned standard that year.

Only question then is will Maro be willing to burn that much magic equity for a limited run product or will they save him for something that will move more units. Wish they would but I cant see anything that good making it into a FTV given recent offerings.

I was trolling. Those are CEs ... but a whole bunch of CEs! Good for EDH and proxy vintage and not having to swap out duals from the legacy binders. I think I'll also bring them to Gencon and try to trade them for some value -- for some reason CEs trade really well at gencon; lots of casuals; edh people and I presume straight up crooks wanting to make fakes.

When I say magic equity I mean the ability of a hot card to drive sales not cheese off the people who paid a high price for it (they have no problem with that). Burning equity is when they take something like goyf or JTMS and stick it in a set so people will play the lottery trying to crack one. If you do it to often the card looses its perception of equity. Ya its still a great card but its been reprinted so much its just not worth was it use to be kind of thing.

Side bars, sweat tatt and beta duals on the last page or so. Keep it up guys.

I've seen a lot of pimped Enchantress decks... not sure why thats the deck of choice to pimp, but regardless... None of them have had foil argothian enchantresses.... Are foil enchantresses just not good enough? Korean is better?

I am also a member of the ONE Koreeen exploration club. Trying to find those as well as some other Saga korean's is tough

... my saved search on these haven't fired in like 3 years

- Enchantress
- Hidden Herd / Guerillas / Predators
- Attunement (tingxuan has one stashed at his fucking fortress in Singapore)

I have the Sanctum's which you'd think would be the hardest card to grab

SCG had some Korean Explorations but wanted $90 for them which isn't a ton of cash but just seemed really hard for kind of a niche card. So I have 2 x T-Chinese, 2-German, 1-Koreen. I'll dig at gencon.

I doubt they'd put it up on eBay, but I'm pretty sure that MTGDeals has a Korean Exploration for sale floating around somewhere.

Different people have different preferences on what they consider pimp. Generally speaking, there are two main schools of thought:

1) Foils (generally Russian/Japanese/German non-promo foils of a card are most coveted)
2) Non-foil foreign (generally Korean/Russian/German are most coveted)

Because in Legacy, you generally can't completely foil out a deck, there are those who don't like foils (or just simply don't like how they look).

Nice! Those look like the same version of Gush that I run. I even have the same Fastbond, although mine is signed. My Regrowths are German black border though, so you've clearly got me beat there. Good luck with vintage, gush/bond is an awesome deck. I need to decide between that and Grixis control for this weekend's vintage event...

Almost finished my collection. Need French and Italian non foils. Then for the foils! As you can see, the far left row is Jap Foil, English Artist Proof, English Foil. Russian and German were surprisingly easy to find.

Just found the last non-foil one on ebay! Thanks to Megadeus for pointing it out. I also forgot that I need to find 2 (non-foil) Chinese Rite of Flame. They've been very difficult to find.

The foil Mutavault is pretty sweet, though I'll probably get rid of it. Never play with foils. I did get a lot of random Korean cards for standard/modern which is kinda nice. But, besides Ooze foil, foil Vault is pretty sick to pull from a box.

Edit; forgot to add I also got a non-foil Ooze, 2 Quicken, 2 Planar Cleansing and a Domestication

I recently began selling my foils and acquiring japanese/koreeeeen nonfoil, but now i'm looking to get stuff signed aswel. The problem with this is that most artists live in 'Murica somewhere, and sending them stuff with a self adressed and stamped envelope back to Europe is quite complicated/annoying. Would there be anyone willing to help me out by functioning as a 3rd party, so that i can just ship a bunch to you and have you ship them out to the proper artists, obviously for a proper reward for your troubles :)
