Quick pimping question:

I was thinking of purchasing some NM Beta Mountains, but I can't decide on which art I like / looks nicer in person. I've never been able to compare all three in NM condition together, so I'm mostly basing it off of online pictures. I'm leaning toward http://magiccards.info/be/en/286.html, mostly because I can't afford Arabian Knights mountains, but I dislike how on that particular land, the text is more of a white color and not the graphite-like gray colors on the others. What would you guys suggest?

Beautiful stuff nedleeds. I've seen alot of your stuff on here, but may I ask why you don't perfect fit?

Uh ... because waste of time? I'm not selling any of my stuff so condition is moot. I power shuffle my vintage deck. It's hard to riffle shuffle in double sleeves. Finally I keep my cards in 9 up binders and you can't stuff 4 perfect fitted cards in a pocket. I also don't own "a deck" I own 4 of almost anything you'd want 4 of, that's a lot of things to perfectly fit.

For long (6+ round) vintage events I'll double sleeve just to keep excessive amounts of table dirt from messing up signatures on my cards.

Long time lurker first time poster. After seeing the original pimp thread at the Vintage forums on SCG back in like 2005ish, I fell in love with pimp stuff. Legacy Storm combo. A black border Trop is incoming and the Volc can be swapped with the one above. The fetches aren't pimp yet. Since I received from very good news last week, I decided to treat myself just a little bit.

At SCG Seattle, I saw a gentleman with a binder full of Summer Magic. We got to talking and it turned out, he opened it all back in England with a bunch of his buddies in 1994, and all of it was pretty nice. Hurkyl's Recall, Copy Artifact, Basic lands, and a ton more. I traded for a Summer Island as a treat for myself, but it was nice to see someone who was actually THERE and saw it happen.

Had a quick Beta question:

I ordered 8 Beta Mountains http://magiccards.info/be/en/286.html from ABUGames. 7 of the 8 lacked the white dots on the bottom border. I did some light research that indicated that the additional basics added in Beta are darker and are supposed to lack the white dots, however, one of the Mountains did have the white dots, and I'm not sure which is correct here.

Should none of them have white dots or is this one of those random printing errors? I'm tempted to buy an 8th without the dots, but I'm really not sure here. Is anyone here a Beta expert who can chime in? Much thanks.

Cards that lack the dots are the ones that were forgotten out of Alpha. Ex. Beta Volcanic Island doesn't have the white dots.

I think the missing ones were Circle black, Volc, and one of each basic land, if I recall.

So does that imply that the last one (with dots) might not be a real, or a weird printing error? I sort of doubt it's a fake given it's a basic, but I could be wrong.

I've been a fan of imgur.com (http://imgur.com) for uploading photos lately, you don't need an account. Imgur generates BBCode formatted text too that you can just copy over here. I think the image limit per post is 11 or something, but you can always just make multiple posts.

I am also a real fan of this thread and have been lurking it for far to long without any real contribution. To make it up, I hope you will enjoy some neet pictures of my legacy, modern, edh, cube foils. It has been a real blast acquiring this collection. Numerous hours spent on ebay sniping for auctions, traveling to events hunting for rare foils (goblin matron I'm looking at you), annoying dealers at GPs to lower the prices on foils. Good times.

But as with any transition to real adult life, comes the shift in priorities and I'm afraid Magic gets on the short end. I do feel kind of bad, owning a foil Goblins, Time spiral/Solidarity, Monobrown, Mighty Eskimo Quinn, Slivers deck, Aggro loam, Charbelcher deck and never taking them for a walk in a real tourney.

Searching for Unlimited Mountains and Islands to match my Volcanics- the P3K island will fill that role nicely for now. 4th moon on the way, still looking for a fourth Beta Bolt.

Once I toyed the idea of going full German, but I finally admitted to myself that more than one language in a deck is not all that appealing in my opinion. At least that's what I'm telling myself to get out of blowing serious cash on an all-German FBB manabase :rolleyes:

I like foils much more, do not have such a warped thick cards! As for me there is no point in signed cards except it was done by my friend or opponent or concerns bright memories. But i have something nonfoil to post for your consideration

Honestly, have never seen nor heard of that before outside of its probable existence as a result of some other random miscuts surfacing.

As for value, I got it for slightly more than a grand (and that is what I was offering for others like this), but would likely have gone higher if I needed to. At least this can be used in Vintage if needed.

He mutter something about only signing one card and I said -- well I don't see a tip jar what's appropriate? and he just kept muttering about his bullshit and signed them. MoK insisted on using her own little fine point pen but whatever. Everyone else I tipped pretty well (anyone want any Girl Genius books?) and they were cordial and cool with me.

The backs of those basics are normal too, so no chance of being fake miscuts. They're better classed as misprints, which increases value too.

Well, I do like the foil S&T (and Zack Stella sig is awesome), but you know, Gene Simmons and the like :D Sometimes you have to know when to make an exception :wink:

@Rome: It take years to gather the necessary pool to build these pimp decks. I've started with the foil signed thing around 2007, if I recall correctly.

I've had mine foiled out for a couple years... I hate the judge Karakas, so those are the only non foils in my 75. D&T has been one of my pet decks for a few years.

While not nearly as pimp as some others, I realized while playing in Milwaukee that I had about 1/2 my deck either foiled or signed, so I thought I'd post it here. The stuff in the front left is foil, middle left is signed. Everything else is vanilla.

The basic lands are foil MPS lands. Plains is Time Spiral, Island is Zendikar, Swamp is Lorwyn. I might switch them all to Time Spiral though, because it kinda sucks to have 2 with mana symbols and one with big honking "MPS" in the text box. The ones I'm currently using have the artwork I like best from the MPS sets. Well, maybe not the Plains. I think it's very unique looking, so I stick with that one.

The SoFF is from the sideboard.

I am currently missing Stifle's, Brainstorm & Misdirection and Lightning bolt (JR) Foils and the way prices have been going, I am sad that it will probably be left that way. EE's have been coming in post and 2/3 of Pithing Needle's have not yet arrived neither. 3 Grim Lavamancers are still on their way too.

Well yeah, nothing too impressive, but I like the deck, should probably change inner sleeves on Brainstorms, Fow's & Stifles, they look filthy!

It's a damn shame Jitte, TNN, and Onslaught Fetches don't come in Russian, because those would be sick as hell. The Jaces are pretty for sure. Are you willing to go for full Russian and throw down 15k? Is it worth it to you?

Next to all the rest of the cards, I think the Ponder has to be my favorite simply because I would think finding a foil would be much easier than finding the rest of those cards. Beautiful deck. :smile:

Nope. I made my mind up a while back not to spend that money on RU foil Jace. I'd rather have a bunch of other stuff to play with or $15k cash.

The Ponder really isn't hard to find since there's so many versions. For some reason I just never picked one up, but that will probably change before long.

@Lightning bebi: I really approve that landstill. So clean, so pimp. Yes there is some small work to be done still (JTMS, fetchland or two) but just gorgeous looking deck. Looks playable to, grindfest and all :)

For those without weeks to spend, I recommend phasing in the perfect fits as you go, one deck at time.

Currently in Phase 2 of my operation here which means eventually getting everything double-sleeved in my deckbuilding binders, so I never have to move things in and out of the outer sleeves, unless there is a lot of wear and I have to resleeve a deck for a tourney. Thanks Potomac Distribution for making it possible.

In other news, Ron Spencer is still awesome. A new Will and a couple other random cards :)

I let some FNM noobs help me resleeve my collection once. They ended up accidentally bend testing every third card or so. On the plus side, my cards are real so... yay?

The only questionable ones (in my opinion) are the lands. When 4 or 5 are stacked up on the field I could see it becoming confusing. Otherwise it all seems fine

I know - that's why I've been starting to play "Lands up front" while not building any stacks. We will see how it goes.
But I've been playing with altered Miracles for 3 GPs now, never had any problems with Judges- only with players, but this didn't matter, due to not having any problems with Judges.. :D

I started playing "Lands up front" because I was tired of people putting their hands all over my cards or just grabbing them nilly willy whenever they felt like it. With the lands inbetween they can't reach and have to ask. Stupid reason maybe... but still why I prefer that card placement method.

It's their own damn fault for not knowing what the card does. The text isn't even especially relevant for that between foreign cards, errata, and access to Oracle text via judges.

Indeed, but it's their right to read any card in play any time they want. If there is still relevant text on the card, get over the fact that they will be handling your cards. If you don't like it, don't play altered/foil cards.

It's not their right to snatch it up smack my cards around or be rough with them at their own will because they forgot what it does from the last time they read it 10 seconds prior. I'm just not a big fan of people roughly handling my cards at their pleasure.

None of that seems egregious, except that I went back and checked the previous posts, nothing was said about them being rough with them. It felt as though only the fear of damage was presented. If they are rough, call a judge. Until they are rough with your cards, let it go.

I think the worst part of dealing for a Beta Tundra in an IHOP was the fact that I passed the money very discreetly, and he just whipped it all out and counted it out loud. In a full IHOP. On Saturday morning. With a really sketchy looking busboy who looked like he would've cut that guy and run away with $800. Getting in $20's was a BAD idea, FYI.

Another time I drove out to a bus stop in the middle of suburbia at 2am because I got a text from a friend of a friend who wanted to buy a set of Goyfs, Confidants, Tarns, and Misties. Total at the time was about a grand. Sketchy as hell, but it all worked out.

I once met up with a guy from a random MTG Facebook group to sell him a Misty. He just texted me the cross streets and I met him on the corner. I stood there for like ten minutes. Then he drove up, pushed open his passenger door, and leaned over to complete the transaction. He gave me two twenties. I gave him the good stuff. I felt like a drug dealer. Some muggles walked by and gave me the stinkeye.

It was pretty awesome.
