It looks really nice, but yes, maybe going for a single language would lead to a better looking result. You already have many of the cards in japanese, but It seems that going that way will be really expensive, as you still lack some of the rare cards (like polluteds, rainforests, infernals and therapies..). It seems that you also like chinese, and if you took this other route, you could downgrade the japanese cards to chinese, and get more chinese cards with the remaining money (but you would lose the led's).
It's not an easy decision, but the good think is that you're not in a hurry, just play with the cards and wait for good offers!

Language is all in the eye of the beholder but I think people would agree Spanish, French, Port as a whole are the least desirable and most sale prices bear this out. One experience was being in France for BoM and the poor French guys trying to trade French cards and basically nobody in the room wanted them, Spanish dudes, 'mericans, Germans, UK guys etc.. Then you had the Russian guys walking around with their little 4 up binders with russian foils asking the moon and hardly anyone acquiescing. I had no problem trading my chinese cards to german guys for german stuff straight up. English traded at market value.

In fact, most of French cards are mistranslated. In France, two cards can have the same name without being the same card. For example : Upheaval & Discombobulate both are translated in "Bouleversement" in French... And it happens many times.
Believe me, even if now French cards are more expensive than English ones, I still prefer VO!

Asian cards, japanese and korean in particular, were highly sought after because of aesthetics and scarcity back in the day due to far east location being isolated and all. The text on japanese cards were thin (easy to tell them apart a few feet away), unique and being unreadable made them especially appealing. The number of players actually playing japanese cards didn't help the supply either. Korean had a very limited run and the language was discountinued somewhere after the Tempest block that is when the demand skyrocketed, though reintroduced in 2012 are still hard to find outside of ebay.

European languages on the other hand are readable. I don't care if russian scarcity is due to hype or not but, stand a few feet away they look like any regular language. That makes them less appealing to me, aside from they can't match my old-border japanese foils. There are reasons why you see more asian cards nowadays, they are valued more as needleds exemplified. I've seen vintage cards altered to japanese, never in any other language.

A few days ago, I played against a United Nations deck that looked like it included some of every possible language. I actually thought it was really cool. Each turn was a little surprise to see what kind of words would be on the stack, and it looked really interesting on his playmat.

I know that feeling, the only non-english cards in my ANT are 2 chain of vapor, and sometimes I prefer to lose instead of drawing one of those 'Corrente de Vapor'...

Some of it is also about what you started collecting, so if you got the Japanese itch (STD?) and spent time procuring those back in the mirage days you might just want uniformity. Japanese has pretty good reach also, going all the way back to Chronicles / Mirage.

Or Two Card Monte (Painter + HelmLine + Vault Key + Forgemaster to find them all). That deck needs Urborg just to tap Workshop for activation mana. Personally, I like using Chromatic Lantern, since it's castable from Workshop to begin with and accelerates you and casts Welder.

Looks like you're getting stuff signed with a paint pen, how do you approach artists with those? I've found the pens to be kind of finicky and I don't know how comfortable I'd be having to set it up every couple of cards.

Picky about condition, Mint 5th edition is hard to find. I've yet to see a better Gemstone then the one I own. I've only ever seen one other error Korean Gemstone Mine and it wasn't as offset as mine. After Mana Confluence was printed I put completing both sets on the back burner. I'm tempted to pick up two foil Griselbrand but I worry about power creep and really don't feel like wasting time and effort, haven't gotten around to picking up a non foil pair. My ultimate goal is to have the cards to build any blue type one list (of which I am twenty four cards away). Right now finishing a foil Polluted Delta set is my priority with the rest of the cards on the list requiring time more than money.

However, I personally think the Khan's arts look better. Now I know going from $150 for a Khans S-chinese foil to $500 for an onslaught foil is a huge jump in pimpness, but at the end of the day, i'll be the one looking at the cards. If you were in my shoes, would you go for rarity or aesthetics?

While I could foil Sol Ring, Demonic Tutor and Mana Crypt for Vintage I won't. I have a Beta Sol Ring, Beta Demonic Tutor and OG English Mana Crypt. For me the OG versions of those cards trump the foil versions. I am definitely going to foil the rest of the deck and work on FBB duals but the stuff I can get in Beta I will over Foil.

its extremely unlikely. depending on the value you might be able to get away with it but still, most companies regard these cards as collectibles and typically require a separate insurance policy. Something along the lines of an appraised list of cards and such. for a collection around ~$50,000 its like $250/year. Insurance companies hate giving away money, especially if they can find a way not to.

although the majority prefers original printing foils such as with cabal therapy / buried alive, other don't like them and prefer the new foiling process available on the newer printings. Exhume / animate dead are only available as grave born foils, and reanimate's alternate foil has the FNM on it... Judging from the foil gitaxian probes, dark depths, judge promo dark rituals, original pithing needles, elesh norn's, and iona, there has clearly been some effort and money put into the list. Your response is not justified by his personal choices and how they differ from what you would have done.

These were signed this past weekend in Seattle area. The signing involved ~2 years of communication with all parties involved. About ~10 people had cards signed by him at a fee per card. This batch will probably be the last cards signed by him for the foreseeable future if not forever.

Often times, the problem isn't that the promo art is necessarily bad. The problem is that the originals that they're replacing look fucking amazing.

There are some cards where the original art is beloved simply because it is the original. Things like Ancestral Recall and Berserk come to mind with this regard (some people may find them appealing in their own right, but those people aren't me, so for the purpose of this story I don't care). Then there are the cards that just flat out look good. The cards that, be they ninety cents or ninety dollars, represent the pinnacle of aesthetics. Survival of the Fittest has one of the best arts of all time, yet they fucked it with... that. Cards like Force of Will, Necropotence, Goblin Piledriver all represent the best of Magic. And they all got fucked. They can't even leave the little classics like Kitchen Finks and Spellstutter Sprite alone.

Off the top of my head, the FNM Bloodbraid Elf is probably the only card I would consider a distinct improvement over the original. Promo art isn't inherently bad. It's just never been better than what it's replaced.

The "white" borders are just clear foiling as a heads up. So you'd end up with a Silver-bordered (or foil-bordered) deck more or less.

yea he's probably the only english card that you can still pull out of a pack that will trade for an underground sea. Very nice.

The lawyer bubble was so 10 years ago. Many of the people in the Rarities groups are in the Financial sector, either in banking or stocks.

I actually don't know of a few others in the med field beyond Shawn and myself, but if you're in ophthalmology/dermatology you can easily bill $600,000 and as an OMFS you can bill 1.2-2m, ballpark.

If you erase/acetone the ink off a foil you will be left with a shiny blank foil surface on most cards. It won't be white. However, on some sets, they changed the printing process and so you DO get a white surface, and foil surface will get erased along with the ink. The sets this is applicable to is mirrodin besieged and all sets after and some print runs of Eldazi-Scars. I do not know about promos or FTV. Also, the premium deck series are weird; they are just stickers that you can peal right off the card. I am not sure how the react to erasing ink though.

These were signed this past weekend in Seattle area. The signing involved ~2 years of communication with all parties involved. About ~10 people had cards signed by him at a fee per card. This batch will probably be the last cards signed by him for the foreseeable future if not forever.

Sad to hear. Seeing the rise of fakes on the signed faceanus group and fakes on eBay artists not wanting (for justified reasons) to sign for a fee is only going to flood the market with more fakes. Maybe they are all independently wealthy, or monks but calmly sipping coffee and signing a hundred or so cards for $5~ a pop seems like a relaxing quick way to make $500 tax free.

When Dan Scott signed my Ponders, he was letting anyone who was going to buy something cut in line. I was just a little amazed at how many people were there for free signatures. If nothing else, my time was worth the $10 I spent not waiting in line. Plus, I got a sweet print.

What I meant was: What signature would you want to fake? The "Evergreens" (Frazier, Poole, Tedin, Rush, Nielsen) sign through mail or attend a lot of conventions and there is not much to gain from adding autographs ($-wise). Really rare sigs like "Andi Rusu", "Dermot Power" or "Sam Wood" would sell well (price-wise) but the market for those sigs is extremely narrow. IMHO no 100 people would want signed cards from those guys at HIGH prices. And I doubt that those people would just buy into it without further checking.

BUT there is the problem of the dead artists...Quinton Hoover especially. There I see a problem.

I'm here to end the year by taking it down a notch. Mostly been working on my gloriously white-bordered cube recently, so haven't really had anything pimp enough to be worth posting. The closest thing I've got is the deck I played most recently in Vintage. I really need to upgrade my Mystical, Vamp, and Will among others, but this deck was intended for play not pimp.

I still prefer the original foil Japanese ones, but those are also beautiful.
