I have them since 2004. And I like so that they are the same frame like all my other cantrips in the deck. I also own a foil mercadian brainstorm just for my vintage deck.

I dont care about pimp level, I have my decks like IIIII want and find them cool. Im not less pimp because I like the foil key. Its foil and also the flavour text is cooler. Thats some reasons I play it.
I just own 1 foil tezzeret of the others. If I play just 1 I play the other. But if I play more I play the promo ones. Also I like the duress a lot, there also pete venters who is one of my favourite artist, he has also done the tendrills. So...

That's the issue though isn't it, what people are posting is pretty mediocre and feeds into the trolling. At the end of the day, to each their own but it's pretty established that when one posts in a "PIMP" thread the cards should either be highly valuable or difficult to find (which could mean a less expensive but hard to find card). There's way too much emphasis put on neging the negative people when really its just a bunch of people with garbage collections compensating for their lack of effort.

If you want to post a bunch of MM or FNM cards feel free to visit MTG Salvation or the Reddit MTG sub.

Those are cards I got during the french legacy cup. Haven't done much in regards to results but pretty happy with the trades. Everything that can be foil is, either french or english.

As for the expedition lands: beautiful pictures, but not full art, bad framing and bad foiling. If I ever get one I'll either trade or sell it immediately.

There are differering standards for pimpness.

Usually people go by rarity, which means foil asian signed junk. I'm sure there are some solidarity players with foiled/signed almost everything.

Some people, like myself, go by aesthetics, which means BB, old cardface, english, and best art. But that's an uncommon criterion.

The deck was beautiful, but the brainstorms stands out, due to simply being (by definition) the worse foil.

He made a choice with the Brainstorms too. He said that he owns MM foils but specifically went with those because he wanted all the blue cantrips to match with the new border.

Having a high bar in this thread - I'm all for it. The reason I'm checking this thread in the first place is because it makes my fucking jaw drop on a regular basis. If it was all last years promos and expedition lands, I wouldn't bother. It just makes me feel bad when somebody posts a deck as gorgeous as Togores', complete with signed foil Onslaught Deltas, and he doesn't get any replies that don't rag on a couple of subjective flaws and personal pet peeves. In the end it just devalues the signatures a lot, same goes for former "rather rare signtures" like Gelon, Leach and so on. Close to everything including alters, foreign languages and what not being readily available gives that entire direction a sour taste.

Sadly NFCs fucking miscuts in general kinda leaves the same sour taste ... but welp, what can you do.

I've been using dragon shields forever due to the durability factor, but after a week or two you can't even tell I'm running all foils when the cases get dirty/scuffed. What do you all like?

Black sleeves with a glossy front, like KMC Hyper Matte's or Ultra Pro, mostly haves. Black makes the foil stand out more. Sleeves like from Legions give the cards a white edge on the front side, which is not really working for the cards in general.

Edit: in the end i had to swap sleeves once everymonth no matter what brand. Only Utra Pro Pro Matte's last longer, but those are not really making the front look nice.
Also i prefer a matte backsides. Dragon Shields and Ultra Pro with images have glossy backsides which makes the cards slippery as hell.

This, there is no better solution than dragon shield matte atm, they are as good to shuffle as ultra pro but as durable as normal dragon shield, they are a bit expensive but given that they are gonna sleve a 10k deck i guess is allright :laugh:

The only issue is that only the Black ones are 100% opaque. The Blue ones are about 90% (in my estimation), the Green and Red ones are about 70-80%. Surprisingly the White ones are nearly as opaque as the Red and Green ones though.

I still bought a case though.

I was mostly responding to you calling it a "rather rare signature" which it obviously is not anymore. I lost nothing and simply don't like things being overly monetized and I have been around long enough to remember other times. Fake signatures have been popping up, especially Hoover and Tim Hildebrandt. Recently people started buying up all the Susan van Camp signed Hymns which used to be pretty cheap on MKM anticipating her biting the dust soon. There is only very few cards left which are hard to get signed, everything else is just a matter of money. There is a bunch of other stuff that goes along with people trying to get every possible cent out of it. I can do without doodles on my cards so whatever.

The Island is pretty sweet.

No, the cuts these days are usually done by professionals. I know that a foreign bb french sheet was cut, though, making it less likely that this wasn't nfc.

Here in Toronto they were sticking together for everyone who used them. Maybe you play in a store that has decent air conditioning but our store was nearly 80F indoors (on a good day) and ungodly humid.

Use standard Dragon Shields myself (Also Australia) and find that they mostly only stick if I have put them on a damp surface. They kind of clump together when I pull them from the box, but once you shuffle, no issue for me. Use to run Ultra Pro's, fuck that shit. I am rough as fuck with my sleeves and the DS's don't split on me. Stand by them until I find something I am willing to resleeve my collection in.

Tempest and Alpha are the greatest. Just depends on my mood. Alpha if I'm casting Juzams, Hippies and Black Knights ... Tempest if I'm doing degenerate things with black mana. Masques is acceptable if you spank it to foils.

It's just that I would play hoover's hymn unless the whole deck was foil (when possible), and seeing that fows are alliances I would have no doubt. BTW, I think Staples signed a few weeks ago in England, check some signing facebook groups in case you are looking for hard to find signatures.

Has anyone had any luck really reducing the foil bending? I have some other cards bending more than others and this has caused a crease in one of them during shuffling. Does leaving them in a desiccator help at all? I thought about borrowing one from school.

I have a bunch of desiccant packs from electronics that I throw in my boxes with foils. That, along with tight packing, tends to keep them flat

desiccant is a very good way to prevent it, but once they have bend i found it close to impossible to un-bend them.
I had some foils pressed by a lot of weight, inside a book for a few days, but that barely worked.... once the foil metal-ish layer has deformed, you cant really re-form it...

The curving is due to humidity, so id assume if you store your cards with silica gel packs it would help.

i might have missed the discussion on this but why are the new foil fetch lands considered full art and thus demand a huge premium? They seem to have about the same picture as a regular card with a minimally transparent text box that still obstructs the image? I don't own any and maybe in person the image is better but pictures sure don't do them justice.

I received an UNL USea today that is a bit unusual. Three of the four corners are uncharacteristically rounded (not from wear), and the dot pattern overlaps in a way that creates a sort of floral pattern that is distinctly different from the pattern on the other 10 UNL duals I have.

The edges can be explained.

Back when you could not use sleeves or sleeves where only see though, some people when also using Alpha cards would file down the edges on other cards to all be uniform. That let them use the Alpha cards without confliction with other cards in their collection. I am going to scan up some of my Duals now and have a look, but that pattern looks ok. Can you blow up the Title and text box for me please? If you are going to find a conflict, that's the first place to look.

Most people like Winter the best and it's certainly the most expensive.

I happen to like Spring which, for some reason, is cheaper than the Autumn one which is the one they reprinted a bunch.

Playing one of each is the coolest looking IMO.

The judge one is probably the worst - the foiling doesn't match the art and it's got the giant stamp. It just narrowly beats out Elspeth vs Tezzeret

I don't like Winter art at all. The entire factory is buried in snow, which kind of obscures the beauty of the Foglio renditions in the first place.

I think Summer factory is the prettiest looking of them all, followed by Spring, then Autumn (it's played out because I've seen it a million times in the 4th edition version), and lastly Winter, which despite being the most expensive is definitely not the nicest looking one. Oh, that's of the four Antiquities arts. If you're playing any Factory without Foglio art on it, you should just burn your cards right then and there. (I actually saw Tom Ross playing Pox with the Elspeth vs Tezzeret factories and wanted to vomit at how ugly those things are. I guess the "pros" really don't care for the aesthetics of the game at all.)

Drew seemed really excited to be back out and showing his work. I think the Gathering got him back into it a little. He had a great setup, some original art, I know the proof junkies were all over him. Hopefully he made some money (I tipped well and bought a City in a Bottle playmat). He was a really nice guy, aside from the eternal pain of having to use a bronze sharpie I think he had an excellent time. I'd expect to see him show up to other events. Having all the beta dual artists active and signing at the same time is awesome, can't wait to slather gallons of bronze semen on the Jesper stuff at GP Seattle.

its all personal preference. i do nothing with them. I'll prefer the oldest edition like alpha / beta or just the original card if it doesn't come in foil. I don't like foreign and i don't like signed, and I don't like altered (generally since it ruins the integrity of the card). But I'm sure you'll every opinion under the sun here. As you can see from the last few pages its all up to you... if you are pimping your deck to meet someone elses standard, you'll always be disappointed with the result, or wondering what if...

Drew seemed really excited to be back out and showing his work. I think the Gathering got him back into it a little. He had a great setup, some original art, I know the proof junkies were all over him. Hopefully he made some money (I tipped well and bought a City in a Bottle playmat). He was a really nice guy, aside from the eternal pain of having to use a bronze sharpie I think he had an excellent time. I'd expect to see him show up to other events. Having all the beta dual artists active and signing at the same time is awesome, can't wait to slather gallons of bronze semen on the Jesper stuff at GP Seattle.

I...actually have never liked the art on Pernicious Deed. I usually like Christopher Moeller's stuff, but something about Freyalise's head and face weirds me out - probably the bowl haircut and strange 90's anime knife-point chin. When they release a Deed with actually good art I'll use it, but until that happens, I'll use the judge one.

When I did this I used 3 Order's and 1 Knight of Stromgald to have four different arts.

Turbostassis is another good deck if you want to expand to a third one.

Indeed, I thought of stasis but wanted to have a beat down deck before a control deck.

The reason for the pump knight split is because the geddon deck runs whirling dervish and spectral bear so they're rather meh in the scope of things. The decks are pretty well balanced and can have crazy starts as well as long, drawn out games that are a blast.

IMHO probably not post worthy yet, but I think that about most posts on this thread. That being said its a good start, FBB's are gonna be really tough for TA since underground sea is the priciest one. I would probably at least get Deltas soon since I think they're pretty low ATM. The toughest pill for me to swallow in my deck was the goyfs, save those for last since they'll most assuredly get reprinted infinitely.

Still im not that sure im ok to consider a garbage foil kor M10 card that you will never find because no one will ever try to sell it over a playset of summer volcanics, that you can find for 80k if you know where to look.

So, I wasn't going to post until a bit later on today, but my mail just came and in said mail was a fake Dark Confidant. "Hue" of the border off. Name darker. Creature type smaller. Kerning of the textbox off.

This was bought on eBay from a seller with 0 rep. Risky, but hey it was a fairly priced Dark Confidant. And my question now is... what do? Part of me wants to keep it, another part wants my money back, and a verrry itty bitty part of me wants to do the right thing.

I'll try to get scans (plus comparison) tomorrow when I go into work and have access to a scanner.


Edit: Art is generally "off", too. Kinda smudgy to the point where you can't even notice there's the signature of the artist in the bottom left corner.

uhh, just report it as a fake, if it just happened they haven't released the money to the seller yet and you can get it back within a week or two. Open a case. They MIGHT have you send it back but they may not. I've kept fakes that got sent to me through ebay before it just depends on a case by case basis. Sounds like u'd probably get to keep it.

Huh? Bobs have been counterfeited for like a year, the first ones were really shit (2/2 instead of 2/1 ect) but I don't know about new ones. From what I have heard the new ones are really close aside from black core. It really is only a matter of time, I wouldn't even be surprised if lots of people playing eternal formats used counterfeits.

Also, something worth noting is that the seller apparently lives in the same state as me. Google says about 1hr 30min. The name appears to be fake (at least no one knows a John [REDACTED] based out of Massachusetts/Rhode Island), but if the address is real I can swing over and knock on his door. Would anyone be cool with starting a new thread specifically for posting "is my card fake" so we don't have fakes clogging up the glorious pimp thread?

Should just add it to the 'get most out of ebay' sticky since they dont come up that often, and most of the information is available and it is just a matter of finding it and knowing what to look for in cards, like the line under the swamp in a/b, mana circle print patterns and stuff like that.
