I ordered what I thought was a FBB Japanese Sylvan Library from TokyoMTG for my 4c Loam deck for the price of $65 which I thought was kinda high but whatever, it said condition NM/M. Just now I got the shipment confirmation and it turns out the card was a Korean FBB Sylvan Library, which explains the price. I need want Japanese FBB for the deck, but Korean is pimper. I don't have too many funds so let's say right now I don't want to buy a Japanese FBB Library.

Agree with Slosh here. I don't own many old Korean cards but those I do have I use interchangeably with my predominantly Japanese collection. They look awesome together - just don't get me started on new Korean I can't stand the font they use.

At the same time I also hate you guys for having such great cards since I spent more than I planned to. I was the one that bought the playset of Korean Snapcasters. I think you were the one that sold them to me. I may have also bought a Korean Flippy Jace earlier in the weekend from you guys. The foreign card selection from the other dealers was lacking.

Well 10/15k for 4 misty and 4 tarn is actually reasonable, i found misty for 1.5k and i can only guess tarn are higher.
Giving an estimation for the miracle deck posted for example i would think the value may be like +8k on 4 tarns +1k on 2 mesas +10/12k on 3 jaces and like +5/6k for the white nonsense, and that deck should go past 50k this way given beta duals/foil japanese ons fetch/foil japanese top/foil japanese MM BS and foil japanese SDT imho.

Although not as impressive as Occam's stuff, I've only been able to ascertain the existence of three of these sets (I've heard 5 might have been made, but this was back in 95, and in an undesirable language to boot).

I feel as if I've completed my Magic collection... or started down the rabbit hole of rarities...

Well there's a lot of factors but to make a long story short, I think that these things are in the "name your own price" category along with things like the Garfield family cards (e.g., Splendid Genesis), that set of Russian Foil Bobs, or the BGS 10 Alpha and Beta Lotus.

*All of this info is based on extrapolating from the info in the video, which could possibly not be the whole truth.

1. "Only" Barry worked on this set and Barry's group did all the play testing. Any cards that weren't in Barry's collection were likely to be single cards that the play testers held on to. That's no likely to be much and many of those are likely to have been destroyed, lost, or forgotten. Also, since WotC didn't test this, it's likely that they only have the submission form he showed; all text files, not cards. Also easily faked.

2. Misprint Guy (I should probably know his name) said that he bought everything worth having, he probably has, for all intents and purposes, every Spectral Chaos play test cards in existence.

3. From the info I've heard about him, MG doesn't seem likely to sell his stuff, especially the more rare pieces like this. As a result, any real cards are unlikely to emerge on the market.

4. Okay, so lets say that someone does want some of these cards or that some of these surface. What are these cards? Formatted text with straight lines in between them. The most complex fake would require you to acquire some colored card stock, cut with a paper cutter, and glued to some like-new revised commons. A fifth grader the inkjet that comes free with mom's Dell could replicate these.

5. As a result, the only way these cards have any value is if you know the provenance. So back to point 2. Even if you do get him to sell you some, your investment doesn't hold much value unless you get something like a certificate of authenticity from him.


I sometimes think about, and am disappointed by, the fact that twenty years in, there's no physical monument to Magic. If the Hall of Fame wasn't specifically from the Pro Tour, a physical HoF would be the perfect place for items like these. If an MtG museum ever happens, many of the best pieces will be in the hands of private collectors. Hopefully they'll be like the insanely-rich people who indefinitely lend out their art collections to museums so that the rest of the world can experience them.

The judge textless bolts are a lot rarer than summer, and a lot more expensive. They look really nice too.

I lend out some of my cards from time to time. Nothing in magic which is attainable is truly a one-of piece, but I've displayed summer duals, hurricanes, textless saga, textless MMQ, the UL/AQ stuff, Seth Rogen etc. If I don't feel security is a concern, cards should be shared with people who want to see them tbh.

I'm not really that interested in playtest cards, to be honest. Anything that can be replicated that easily isn't really collectible.

Playtest cards have that "cool" factor, like someone who builds a deck that wins in a very unique way or pulls off a crazy win. They don't really have a "pimp" factor because they are unfinished, unusable and not really impressive looking. If you saw the video theres a card with a cock drawn on in pen or whatever as the artwork (here (https://youtu.be/eaOh-EqNYvE?t=11m20s) for all you weirdos), its weird.

The cool part is learning the story behind things like cards were taken from this set that are later used. Lotus petal was taken directly from the set. Mythics were suggested. Multicolored cards introduced.

Really sweet deck Noctalor. I'm surprised by how much I like the Japanese (?) font on the conspiracy Brainstorms and Duress, but I find it way too chaotic on the Cabal Therapies and Tendrils of Agony. Maybe that has to do with the old layout as well, but it just does't appeal to me. I agree with Death with respect to the probes, original art preferred by far ;).

The shooting star I can handle, but the FNM logo, DCI logo, Arena League logo and stuff like that is just a big no. I don`t mind the new frame in general, and if you want your Brainstorms to match your Probes and Ponders, that`s completely valid, but the FNM logo makes that edition a no-go for me. I find this particularly annoying on the FNM Kitchen Finks, where I love the alternate art, but it has that awful FNM logo.

Well is not even true, there are plenty of "shoting star" cards that are much better than standard ones, for example old layout NH and DC, flusterstorm.
And i do know those GP are not the "best" ones, but i tend to play the art i like and not the most pimped version anyway, this is why i play with KTK deltas and promo Probes but i have a 5k lightning bolt.

I have not been paying attention to the big events for the last few months, I was only talking about my local meta (which is a pretty stupid thing to do on an internet forum). I used to play GW Hatebears as my #1 deck, but that deck withered away from me when Treasure Cruise Delver was a thing, and right after the ban, everyone started playing Tasigur, Angler and Terminate in every deck. Suddenly my beloved semi-vanilla 4/4s were just not that big anymore. Good to see big Zoo make a comeback. (I`ll stop derailing now, sorry.)

Because we each have different tastes? The basic in my Lands deck is a foil Onslaught Forest because I started in Onslaught. The Wastelands are the 2010 ones because that's my favourite art. What you like might not mean anything to me.

i have my entire doomsday deck in german non-foil, except my euro lands and some of the fbb's, which are italian or french. will post when i'm not too lazy to scan everything. i don't really like foiling b/c it doesn't work with the duals, except my tendril's of agony.

same here i apreciate foils but not to play, i´m curently pimping my miracles deck with japanese/chinese, black border duals and guru basics! half way trough the lands processes, the rest of the deck is already in japanese/chinese language if possible!

I agree. Judge basics are ugly. Especially since they don't wrap back around. Missed a big chance to do that.

Are they really a true panorama? I think they look more like five individual pieces of art that fade/gradient into each other. None of the landscape changes look natural at all, they just bleed over. Compare them to some of the ones posted, and you'll see what I mean. It's a rough task though, to paint all five land types after each other like that. Some of the Lorwyn ones struggled with two.

I like the forest art though, and the fact that they don't have the post M15 black edge.

@Havrekjex, only the Champion of Kamigawa Islands can do this. For each other land it is more like you described it (so blending one land into another).

If you care to attempt to remove it, rubbing alcohol removes sharpie from foils pretty easily.

Apparently somebody appreciated it since people wanted to buy it after I defaced it. But good to know you shed a few tears. The card still taps for u/w, can be fetched, and even better the current owner is stuck with it since no dealer on earth (or person really) would ever want it. Even better he basically got a Tundra for 1/2 off. So he'll likely play with it. It's only destroyed from the perspective of somebody wanting to sell it, for somebody who wants to have fun, play Magic and remember the fun we all had at the Duel for Duels I think it's just fine. The way I see it nobody lost except for your inner Magic Card Justice Knight.

I agree. it came out awesome. I'm not one for altering power, but that's the 2nd best card that can be altered on a Mox Jet (#1 being Doomsday)

For the most part, yes. But I'm not actively going out of my way to replace them.

I'm trying to get off of foils and I prefer English cards and bolts + unaffordable duals are about the only non-foil English pimp for most of these cards.

If you can get into unaffordable duals by getting out of foils, do it. The Dazes alone are pretty sought after, did you get those at Gencon this year?

I dunno. That deck is nice and all, but every time I see those FBB duals I keep thinking that it wouldn't be complete without NM Beta duals in their place.

So, you're disliking someone for owning BB duals, when your deck is worth about the same as two of his blue duals, has 0 white bordered cards, all japanese foil, where possible?

I'm not disliking someone. Clearly he put alot of effort and money into acquiring his pimped out deck. I'm just saying that, with as much maxed-out foil japanese pimpness there is in the deck, it feels as if it's incomplete without the best possible duals. Clearly some people can't afford to *fully* pimp out their decks, or just feel that FBB is adequate for them, but if I went to the trouble of acquiring foil Japanese versions of every single one of my cards, I'd feel a bit unsatisfied until I also managed to hunt down legitimate Beta duals to absolutely complete the deck.

I never unerstood that hate for the KTK fetches. Sure the frame is awful we all agree, but the art isn't so bad and not as bland as the ONS ones...
