My current Aggro Loam build. Goal is to get everything JPN non-foil signed, most importantly i got everything BB and with original artwork/series. Since this is semi-budget i would call this stylized or styled rather than pimped. I ain't got no money tree on me back and even then i would not upgrade to foil.

ps: in my lands deck ("all" jap) I stayed with original mazes and Karakas. The new ones, even though they are in japanese, are painfully sticking out.

I have a 71/75 foiled D&T deck. The non foils being Karakas (hate the Judge Promo and like the way my simple alter looks like on my Legends ones) and I can't tell when I'm going to draw one of them. Mainly due to double sleeving, and also I keep the cards in a semi-tight deck box.

I triple sleeve, I'm not worried about them looking different. I play only 4 foils in the list currently, and cannot tell at all. Also, I'm not so anal that having a few "different" cards in the mix. I'm not sure yet if I'll get my 3 Karakas altered or if I'll just get japanese ones from ema.

I don't think there's a general consensus about that. Many people say that they hate the big star in the textbox. But also the old border and the foil art is really cool (original old border foils didn't have foil art).
I used to have the dci ones and if you don't care about the big star they are awesome, really shiny compared to the ravnica ones.

So after a years work I want to prestent my shardless deck today. It's not fully finished mainly I'm missing 3 onslaught Delta (these fuckers are hard to track down) and 1 lili (scre the guy who bought all 5 from Hareuya 2 weeks ago 30 minutes before I wanted to buy 1). I don't know what to do with the forces but I will probably jsut get german ones for these to match the duals. JR Forces do not impress me and while the EM one are pretty nice I'm not interested in spending 4-5 k on the set. Also there would be a lot of EM foil in the deck wich is allready not to my liking, but many cards of this deck came out first there in jap foil. Also the original Art on FoW is one of the most iconic in MTG I guess so I won't insult this.

I know y'all gonna hate the goyfs, but I won't drop 6k on FS jap foil goyfs with the creature power creep. There will be a better tarmogoyf at some. I only startet playing again 15 months ago, so I had to aquire everything, if I still had those from FS time it would be something different, after all I'm really stupid with these things but not so stupid. I could buy almost all 3 seas in BETA for those goyfs and will defenitly go for that first

Will people think I am trying to have an unfair advantage? Is this a reasonable concern or am I over thinking it? The only thing I can really think of doing is getting some of the other cards that are cheaper in foil. If I do love the deck I plan to foil it out anyways. Pls help.

I can just tell you, that I got an mmediate game loss at EW Paris for my Ancestral Vision to be too curley and thus marked. And this was in a fully foiled deck and FTV tend to curl even more in my experience.

I would upgrade them to original Coldsnap. They are about the same price, it shouldn't cost you much.

I double sleeve my decks and I've never had a problem with foils curling and looking different than my non foils while sleeved, also keep the cards in a snug box and you shouldn't have issues there either.

My cards are not bent at all. That isn't what I'm worried about really. I am worried that people think I am stacking my deck. A lot of people are under the impression that foil cards will go towards the top of your deck while being shuffled because the difference in weight and thickness. Whether or not this is true it is what is believed. I am just afraid people will think I am trying to do that because my only foil cards are the most important cards in my deck when really I just got them because they were the cheapest.

You should get the cards that you like the most, without caring about "everyone's take".
If you want to go for the most expensive cards, get everything foil, and russian > korean > japanese.

The duals are not in the vault, nor are the Tabernacles. Everything else, including the Sol Ring, (because it's easier to keep it with the power.) is.

As for the duals, there is not a week I play that I am not leading cards to someone. I have had mates sell me cards at a cheaper rate knowing when they want to use them they have a high chance they can borrow them. Since I don't play much with Blue Duals, I can help 2 or 3 friends play without shocks in a week without any issues.

Also I do get your taking the piss out of others, but I thought I should answer that before it comes up. I understand others frustrations when they can't get what they want and people like myself are the 1% of magic players. But hey, I pay my taxes, I ain't got no shame.

Thx! Your Miracles deck was an inspiration for this deck actuallty :) Didn't know about the Coldsnap plow reprint in japanese (def the best art! Had to hunt for a playset for a couple of months:::) and a couple of alters for the " big" cards of the deck look great IMO (your Entreat the Angels + tokens are sweet) ....
Prefer the Apac lands though (has the tap symbol + japanese locations!) and can't switch the Karakas for a japanese version (love the poem on the original one!)

I feel you! Those CSP Plows are definitely one of my most favorite inclusions in my deck as well. IMO hard to find > value in terms of pimp (for example, my Japanese Portal Pyroclasm isn't the most expensive Japanese Pyroclasm–that goes to foil 7th–but I think it's pimper because it's much, much harder to source.)

I want to run APAC but I just can't let go of the flavor of my Venice Islands with regards to how the rest of the deck is decorated.

Funny thing, I was thinking of starting to build towards Stoneblade (though Esper and not UWR) before I saw your post, and now I've become more interested in building it.

In theory are a few "accepted" rules that you should respect when altering a card, in order to be able to play with it at a tournament;
- Card name can't be changed/covered
- Cost of the card can't be changed/covered
- Type of the card can't be changed/covered
- Expansion symbol of the card can't be changed/covered
- If it's a creature, power and toughness can't be changed/covered
- The topic of the art should respect the original topic of the art in order to be recognizable
- The topic of the art should be kids friendly (not pr0n)
- The border of the card should be the original (don't alter the border from white to black, or to yellow, or to green, etc.)

But when you go to a tournament, the HJ is the final responsible of deciding which alters are playable.
Judges near where I live don't really care about card names (Most of the players here can't read Japanese, Chinese, Russian, etc. , so having the name of the card is useless to us), and the main filter they use is to show the altered card to an experienced player during ~1 second. If he/she can recognize the card, it's playable. I think it makes more sense.

This is key to remember. I've been to tournaments where the HJ basically didn't allow anything beyond sharpie alters. He even told people that he wasn't allowing alters. I'm going to take the bait here even though it's just to rewrite what I originally said.

I'm saying, with respect to that graphic, people that have been wealthy for generations (old money) tend to have good taste in what they spend money on, opting to buy stuff that looks good and might only be noticed as expensive by those in the know (left column), and people who only just made their fortune (new money) tend to buy tacky and frivolous things that flaunt their wealth (right column). I wrote that ITT we consider the former to be pimp because it's tasteful and we don't consider the latter to be pimp because it just looks like it's trying too hard. And it's not in pimping nature to be trying too hard.

What do you guys think of the new set's Masterpieces?

They are printing some very Legacy-relevant cards as Masterpieces in this one: Chalice, Ensnaring Bridge, Trinisphere, Wurmcoil Engine, etc.

If you were a MUD player would you consider these better "pimp" options than the original Mirrodin foils? Or 8th ed. foil in the case of Bridges?

Masterpieces have nice arts although I m not to impressed by their foiling process and the borders although interesting and to some degree nice stand out to much from me, like from the rest of the deck so I would jsut go with original set foils.

Personally, I would suggest cutting the Skite. In my experience it's largely a dead draw and I never find myself recruiting it.

Not a bad suggestion. It's probably my least boarded in card. It only comes in against Burn (where it's mediocre) and Infect (where it's amazing but I primarily win by Mooning them).

Let's be honest, I'm only ever going to beat Burn if I land an early Sphere of Law anyways, or get very lucky...

If you are thinking about altering it to Japanese, get an Italian Legends one. Those don't have the same color, but at least is the original art (and they are cheaper).
