Recently came back from a vacation visiting my wife's family for the Chinese new year. My father in law gave us each a red envelope with a bunch of Chinese money so I decided to pick this up while I was over there.
Huge fan of these. I usually hate new border anything over old border anything, but chinese FoWs just look so pretty.

I'm 100% WB 5th edition for Blasts and Brainstorms. I get being white-border averse, but classic card frame >> new card frame.

And it's probably not even like he made the decision to go Ger recently, or else why would he have spent the money on EMA foil Tops when he had many other, harder-to-source-in-German cards already? :eyebrow:

I really love misprints and such things but I actually never wanted to collect cards I dont play, besided a test print textless bolt I dont really have many valuable misprints, was pondering about buying 4 textless cradles but wasn't ready to burn 40k :rolleyes:

Haha i did it on purpose. i dont mind revealing extra information to my opponents when im playing the deck anyways, its a homebrew.

cant find judge foil maze of iths though, went to 3 GPs and only manage to buy 1.

have 5 different wasteland arts to choose from which is fun.

certain foils are avoided like mercadian rishadan port foils which is way out of reach in terms of value. i rather FBB the trops which will cost the same.

need to upgrade the dark depths soon. good condition dark depths foil are hard to find at where i came from.

added walking ballista but have not taken a photo of it yet. it should be playable as an alternate win con + hedging against mother of runes and sanctum prelate.

Started January 2016 with a wooded foothills expedition and all hell break loose for 11months. the goal was to complete before GP Chiba which fortunately i did fully foil it except for the last minute sideboard changes.

Agreed, very nice! Usually full-art extensions on duals look pretty tacky IMO, but on Badlands and Scrubland they seem more natural (and these look to be well-painted). The unmatched set of Dark Rituals is a very cool touch as well.

I do not like Masques art. Your other points are fair. I will get my Thoughtseizes altered as Darth Maul, Darth Vader & Kylo Ren in case I can find a good artist in altering business in China. I am afraid of investing in FBB due to increased number of counterfeits.

Fake FBB duals are pretty noticeable. Just go through a reputable seller on HEG.

Never have posted a full deck before, but here is my casual vintage deck. Its not a competitive list, it was mainly built
to be halfway consistent and fun at kitchen table.
as you can see i have no uniform pimping style, for different cards i prefer different languages. if you see a card that appears not alpha or foreign, look again, its a misprint :)
everything that can be foil, is foil (also the russian jace :) )

the only two cards that bother me are the mystical tutor, of which i just dont have a special version, and the black lotus, which is "just" beta,
but i cant afford an alpha atm, this will have to wait a bit.

I like this style a lot but would try to complete getting all German if possible (don't know if it's all available). Also, I'd go with Lowryn Ponder. For me, it's nonfoil, 1st print, in 1 language. Thanks for sharing!

Never have posted a full deck before, but here is my casual vintage deck. Its not a competitive list, it was mainly built
to be halfway consistent and fun at kitchen table.
as you can see i have no uniform pimping style, for different cards i prefer different languages. if you see a card that appears not alpha or foreign, look again, its a misprint :)
everything that can be foil, is foil (also the russian jace :) )

the only two cards that bother me are the mystical tutor, of which i just dont have a special version, and the black lotus, which is "just" beta,
but i cant afford an alpha atm, this will have to wait a bit.

The russian foils "only" have a part of around 8.5k in the deck, the value added by them is negligible.
Even with regular english nonfoils it would be a lot over 40k. Also note that the guru islands are no normal islands but misstamped gurus. Less than 20 are known to exist. Each is a few grand by itself.

The list I played at eternal weekend had a Tezz and an extra thoughtseize instead of the two thirsts for knowledge I added ( testing them, not sure if I play enough artifacts) ...
In a meta of maindeck pyroblasts, sphere decks with fast ravager/balista kills and fast paradoxical storm decks old Tezz is not so good I am afraid :s

After the legacy playmat was a miss ( really blurry life from the loam image :/) I was really happy to see that the metalworker playmat came out supersweet :)

Not really anything too fancy there as I like to keep it simple and clean, but I wanted to share this deck here as I take this pile of old school beauty for a last spin tonight.
I'm downgrading my Beta duals to those fugly German FBBs to pay for my wedding next year, so I'm 0% regretting having to do this, but it's still the most aesthetic deck I'll ever have built imho so it's still gonna hurt inside :smile:

Anyway; a big pity they started making the textboxes so crowded after Unlimited, resulting in FBB looking so much worse than Beta in general (in addition maybe to colors, not as broad a border or whatever other uglifications they invented in 1994 :tongue: ).
I don't care for foils at all, but some ancient bordered cards do make my heart go faster!

Thanks! I've seen the EMA foils live and didn't like them, nice arteork ruined by M15 frame and a hologram. So comparing the signed originals to the not so horrible as the EMA version Judge FOWs I'm gonna stick with the originals.

On the of case the Vendilion Clique, I like both the Judge promo art and the original a lot but the judge version available to me for a good price. The DCI stamp is horrible I know. Thankfully there weren't much Miracles in my meta so I haven't played the card a lot.

Appreciate it! Especially at the time when I started, conspiracy or eternal masters had not been announced. There were just too many cards with no foil version (at the time), so JPN was the way to go.

Full non-foil jpn is aesthetic for sure. But full pimp? No way. You can buy most legacy decks full-jpn for less then a playset of jpn foils of the most expensive cards like noctalor said. They are (mostly) not even hard to find and cheaper than english foils mostly.

So I'm on vacation back home. Find 3 old long boxes. Find some hidden gems from back in the day, cracked a ton of packs of tempest and urzas block so it was mostly chaff from those packs. Had stuff like wasteland, 4 ancient tombs, random ABU jank, staple commons and uncommons etc. Went down to the local to ship em. After all is said and done I get a store credit amount and inquire about the Chaos orb they have marked MP (I've seen this grading sold as NM on mkm, their grading is definitely favourable for buyers) quick browse on mkm and the price is right. The MP sol ring looked great til I pulled it out of the sleeve. Lower right corner is lightly inked, big bummer. So they call the store buyer up front to look at it, I walk him thru what's wrong with it. He ain't happy but has to eat it. LOL yes, I usually arrange the deck lands first alphabetically, then creatures alphabetically, then planeswalkers alphabetically, then other spells alphabetically, reversing order in alternate rows. Then I arrange sideboard the way it looks better. Pimp world problems, totally :)

At that time there haven't been neither Grixis Delver nor UR Delver in Legacy yet. It's just a legacy so to speak from a time when other decks used to play Foothills as well: Zoo, Goblins for example. Doesn't make
any sense nowadays.

I've had some land hands where I didn't do something turn 1. You can apply the same logic to elves/aggro loam/infect with slow hands. I've found with the fetch lands being printed as widely as they are now it's a lot harder to tell what someone is on just by the fetches.

at this point it's been long enough since Canadian was common that most people think I'm on UR when they see foothills. If they realize I'm not on grixis I don't really care since most of their decisions won't change that much. I'd rather be able to bluff something like lands which has a much bigger payoff.

Finally getting back into the game after selling out a few years back.
GP Vegas was a blast, despite ending up X-4 at the end of round 9.

Still managed to get some sweet things over the week, and a few packages in the mail when I returned. Also made a sweet spec on Drop of Honey before the tournament and snagged 3. Still waiting on several signed cards, a few alters to make their way back from artists.

Pimpers, I have a pimp Q. I'm not trying to incite a riot here but I'm having trouble choosing the right Snapcaster Mages. They will be played in both Vintage and Legacy.

Here's the dilemma. I'm mostly an "older is better" guy as long as the card in question is, in fact, old. 2011 doesn't qualify as old for me so I go through my next few guidelines, namely art, language available, promos available etc etc. I don't really care about foils unless it's a particularly standout foil (I love the judge Sword of F&I/Sword of L&S for example). I think the art on each of the three Snapcaster Mages is completely rubbish (just my opinion :eek:).

So, the point of my very long story is; do I go for Japanese Innistrad non-foil, Japanese Modern Masters non-foil or English Judge foil? Completely torn on it. I kinda want some weird combination of the three. What a brat!

Again, not trying to cause a ruckus and I know the traditional hierarchy of pimpingness too, just looking for some advice on what to splash the cash on for an upgrade to my bland, shite looking snapsnaps...

It's the best version because it looks the most like a Snapcaster Mage, if that makes sense. In the same way, I think the MM art for Tarmogoyf is a lot prettier than the original FUT, but a FUT Tarmogoyf is what a proper Tarmogoyf looks like to me, and for that reason I always play those. Same with Wasteland, I absolutely love the art on the EMA version, but I play with Tempest because that's looks the most Wasteland-y. Well, that's my jam anyway. We all have different reasonings for our choices, and iconicness scores very high with me.

Regardless of all that, I'd like to add that I think the promo Snap looks like dog shit. The MM one is miles better.

Same with Wasteland, I absolutely love the art on the EMA version, but I play with Tempest because that's looks the most Wasteland-y. Well, that's my jam anyway. We all have different reasonings for our choices, and iconicness scores very high with me.

Regardless of all that, I'd like to add that I think the promo Snap looks like dog shit. The MM one is miles better.

Hey, new to the thread. Been having fun checking out the previous pages, lot of cool stuff posted.

Anyway, stylized my legacy burn deck a few months ago. Took a while, but i'm pretty happy with the results. I know burn isn't a legacy favorite, but it's definitely fun to just relax sometimes and just throw some bolts at the face.

I did that with my UR storm in Modern too (when I was still playing that format 1-2y ago). My basics of choice were Starter 99. They are WB already but the ink on the pictures has something
special to it. They look sharper I'd say.

Another general pimping question, is new RPTQ Emrakul the Aeons Torn cool enough to displace ROE Emrakul? Not being original set/old border hurts the new one, but the art is way way way cooler IMO.

On Saturday I completed a mini goal of mine which was to collect 1 of each card on the restricted list from Beta when I took possession of my Wheel of Fortune. When I was pulling together these cards I discovered that I'm missing 2 cards off the restricted list ($7 SCG total) so I guess I'll round out that collection next.

ROE foil jp/rus is a premium set, cards from that set cost a LOT, so i guess it should be the same for the standard foil ones aswell.
