Spellshift
3U (4), Instant
Counter target instant or sorcery spell. Its controller reveals cards from the top of his or her library until he or she reveals an instant or sorcery card. That player may play that card without paying its mana cost. Then he or she shuffles his or her library.

I thought this card could make an interesting combo deck. (counter your own spell and cast an awesome instant/sorcery ftw)

I havent found a good win condition (if it exists) which is why I am posting this thread. Please help me out.

Reverse the Sands is pretty awesome because you can give you all the life except for 1. But you can always do it in response to fetchlands.

My 2 cents.

There aren't any.

First, you need other cheap spells to cast for it to counter, which just goes against the whole point of the deck since Spellshift might snag one of these spells.

Even if you have library manipulation to do the job, what instant/sorcery means I WIN in Legacy? Nothing comes to mind since every deck is beaten by different ways, so no one spell can do the job for you.

Sorry, I just don't see any competitive (or even just a workable one) being built around Spellshift.

EDIT: I don't think Reverse the Sands works that way. It makes you and your opponent switch life totals, not you getting all the life points between you two, saving 1 for your opponent.

A) Reverse the Sands redistributes life totals, not life.
B) How are you planning on stacking your deck to get Spellshift to not shift into itself?
C) What game swinging sorcery/instant are we aiming for that is better than the similar strategy of Polymorphng a manland into a Colossus? Crush of Wurms?

Well I thought I would put it in a deck with free counters (which you could counter with Spell Shift) Fow, Daze, and use Brainstorm, Sensei's Top and mystical tutor to put the win condition on the top. Probably not all that competative...

// Lands
3 [ON] Flooded Strand
3 [ON] Polluted Delta
4 [U] Volcanic Island
12 [MM] Island (3)

// Spells
4 [VI] Impulse
3 [IA] Pyroclasm
3 [CHK] Sensei's Divining Top
4 [OD] Predict
1 [VI] Fireblast
4 [FD] Magma Jet
3 [A] Lightning Bolt
4 [PLC] Spellshift
1 [BOK] Sway of the Stars
3 [MI] Mystical Tutor
4 [5E] Brainstorm
4 [AL] Force of Will

Something like that might be cool. You probably only need to do 6 damage to your opponent after Sway because of fetchlands.

Doesn't this card only effect the opponent?

Doesn't this card only effect the opponent? You can counter your own spell. Since you are that spell's controller, you get to do the ability.

I agree that this deck probably couldn't be that competative, but I think Storm Herd would make the best win condition, assuming you can get the combo off in a timely manner (i.e. when you still have a decent amount of life).

Exactly my point. Countering your own spell is dumb. Especially for a combo that doesn't win you the game. Why play this over Draco-Explosion?

Draco-Explosion is the shit.

I have heard of people playing spell shift with eye of the storm for type 2 to make outrageous wins through decking or something like that.

Could you explain the combo with eye of the storm? I dont get it. The card is simply confusing the me.

1. You play a spell. It goes on the Eye and is copied.
2. Play Spellshift. It goes on the eye, and you get a copy of it and a copy of the original spell.
3. Have the copy of Spellshift target the copy of the other spell.
4. The copy resolves. Flip over cards until you reveal an instant/sorcery, which goes on the eye and is copied along with Spellshift and the original spell.

So, every time you copy Spellshift, you get another spell, which copies Spellshift (and all of the other spells on the Eye).
