Alex Mack (who Top 16'd at GP Lille) won the event with Ugr Gro. Only 37 people entered.

The interesting thing is that Alex stated that he just swapped out Werebear for Tarmogoyf, but the list he played at Lille was Ugw (http://www.wizards.com/magic/samplehand.asp?x=mtgevent/gplill05/128decks&decknum=70).

A quick chat (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CNuovDgAlew) with Alex Mack

Thanks for the results. Were the top 8 decklists released?
(If not then shame on Wizards)

The winning deck looks more like Thresh than Gro to me. Does Gro not have Dryad in it?

I the list I linked too was Alex's list from Lille, not from the SD side event.

I thought you said that he said the deck was the same except that Werebear became 'Goyf. (Which would still make the deck Thresh unless I've missed something)

Hi I'm Alex Mack. I got some things screwed up in the Interview (read t-shirt --> go figure) and in any case I was playing UGw (cause swords kill goyfs). Here's my list. I feel like the MD is pretty close to optimal, wheras the SB is a pile since I did not take along all my cards.

MD:
4 Tundra
4 Trops
4 Flooded Strand
4 Polluted Delta
1 Island

4 Goyf
4 Mongoose
3 Mage
1 enforcer
2 needle
1 EE
4 Sword
4 FoW
3 Daze
3 Counter
4 Brainstorm
4 Serum Visions
3 Portent
3 Predict

SB:
2 Krosan Grip
3 Tormods Crypt
1 Mystic Enforcer
1 Needle
1 EE
3 Trivadars Crusade
2 Stifle
2 Spell Snares (Really liked these should try to fit some into MD)

No Stifles or Mental Notes MD. 3 Counterspell MD. I choose this setup because I like to play the controll dec in the long game and thus need to optimize card quality and avoid card disadvantage (thus portent and predict over mental note and counterspell over stifle). I'm sold on the MD enforcer (kind of like having a dragon in your 40 card limited dec) and I really like my cantrip setup since it provides the ultimate manipulation early and late game.
Not sold on MD mages but they seem strong and won me a match.Oh and Goyf over Bear is a no brainer. Note that in this version of the dec mongoose is one of the worst cards since treshhold rarely happens before turn 4. I'll post this in the Grow thread so if you further want to discuss the dec go there or pm me.
