Hello.

I'd like to present my fresh idea. Here's the list and card explanation above it.

4x Tarmogoyf
4x Werebear

3x Swords to Plowshares
3x Duress

3x Umezawa Jitte
4x Gerrard's Verdict

3x Vindicate

3x Polluted Delta
1x Flooded Strand
1x Windswepth Heath
4x Bayou
2x Nantuko Monastery
3x Savannah
4x Scrubland
1x Swamp
1x Plains
1x Forest

Sideboard :
1x Swords to Plowshares
1x Duress
1x Cabal Therapy
4x Leyline of the Void
4x Null Rod
2x Engineered Explosives
2x Pernicious Deed

CARD EXPLANATION
===============

Dark Confidant
Hypnotic Specter
Tarmogoyf

I think those creaturers don't requires any comments. Draw/Disrupt/Aggro

Werebear

I choose Werebear, beacause of its threshold ability and mana acceleration.
For 2cc we have 4/4 and mana gain creature. Good choice I think, especially that we are getting threshold easy and fast.

Swords to Plowshares - response for 1 turn lackey, and many other threats in this format

Duress
Cabal Therapy
Gerrard's Verdict

When combo decks are growing up, and they're getting stronger and faster, we need a ton of disrupt to break them. Maindeck 10 cards are also helpful against each deck except Goblins.

Sensei's Divining Top

As we doesn't run blue, we need to manipulate our library to prevent loss of life and drawing exactly cards we need at the moment.

Umezawa Jitte

Makes our creature more competitive in mid and late game.

Engineered Explosives

Maindeck EE against EtW. Also CotV which is really good against this deck.

Vindicate

Spot removal for random permanent (i like ponza-mode :))

Sideboard :
1x Swords to Plowshares
1x Duress
1x Cabal Therapy

4th copies to maindeck

4x Leyline of the Void

there is no need to comment it

4x Null Rod

against affinity/charbelcher/equipping

2x Engineered Explosives

to fit 4th

2x Pernicious Deed

against goblins

ill add soon matchups for this deck but I'm still testing it a lot.

Yours
Michael Pietrzak

We played together on MWS, as I was playing a similar deck. During all the game, you were claiming that I was topdecking like a pig. Actually, you recognized after your 0/2 that I won because of my tops. Actually, there are some other shortcomings explaining why my build is more efficient, as well in mirror as against any thresh.
- cabal therapy is extremely weak in a deck were your creatures are so much bomb. In Aluren, you won't care if you sacrifice a wall of blossom. In golden grahams or in ichorid, you're even happy of being able to sacrifice your creatures. In your deck, except for dark confidant when it begins to hurt, you'll never want to sac one of your creatures, provided that they are either kill either very big card advantage providers.
- your mana base is soooo weak. I consider that the first weakness of my build in the mana base. But yours is even worst. 1 plains and 1 forest with only 1 Windswept heath to tutor them is a bad idea. You should either raise the count of white and green fetches or leave the basic lands. Your black mana lands are rare (only 14) in a deck that you call "Black". That's not normal. To give you a comparison, I play 20 black mana lands on 21 lands. The first thing to do is to abandon the monasteries.
- Umezawa's jitte does not fit with the deck. Your deck should be a control deck (vindicate, STP, discard, EE, deed) with a fast clock (tarmogoyf + werebear or jotun grunt, which I prefer, I'll come back on it later). The jitte is only win more or trying to struggle with weapons where you're not good at. The only thing I like in Jitte for this deck is the life gain in addition of being quite an universal solution to a lot of things.
- Werebear has become sooo poor since tarmogoyf is in the metagame.Jotun grunt owns tarmogoyfs. You have to anticipate the case when you are not the one who draws the tarmogoyf in first. Jotun grunt also owns threshold cards and all other 2CC threats in magic. It's even good to deal with opponent's grunt ! And imagine you have tarmogoyf AND the werebear/jotun in hand and that you're colour screwed. Jotun guarantees you that removing your green will not stop all your threats.

Here is my list. It's finally quite different even if it has exactly the same game plan as you have.

Maindeck :

4x Dark Confidant
3x Hypnotic Specter
4x Tarmogoyf
3x Jotun Grunt

4x Duress
4x Hymn to tourach
3x Gerrard's Verdict

3x Enlightened Tutor
1x Phyrexian Arena
2x Sensei's Divining Top
2x Engineered Explosives
2x Pernicious Deed

4x Vindicate

2x Polluted Delta
2x Bloodstained Mire
4x Windswepth Heath
4x Bayou
1x Savannah
4x Scrubland
4x Swamp

Sideboard :
3x Swords to Plowshares
4x Leyline of the Void
4x Engineered Plague
1x Engineered Explosives
1x Pernicious Deed
1x Jotun Grunt
1x Pithing Needle

This is the version I tested. Now I plan to make some change :
To fix a bit more my mana base :
-1 Bayou
-1 Scrubland
+1 Plains
+1 Forest
To gain a bit of life :
-1 ???
+1 Jitte

And I should find something to raise my goblin matchup, because it's really poor right now. And goblin is not dead yet.

Abit like hanni's Rockguy Ale, huh? Ever considered Skeletal Scrying as the one off in the Phyrexian Arena slot?

Maverick I just told u Won because of SdT. If i had a chance to manipulate my librabry like you - especially in game 2nd - I should won that. I didnt tell you, that my version is better. I just want to hear arguments why or why not :)
If You're looking for playtester, We can both play games on MWS and test it a lot.

I dont like Jotum Grunt in this deck. His synergy with Tarmogoyf is ... ;/
Maybe its worth to play Troll Ascetic instead of Werebear's and Nimble Mongoose instead of Umezawa Jitte.

Should we try Spectral Lynx as a response against Threshold?

Hummingbird >> My phyrexian arena slot is not a random slot, it's a tutorable enchantment slot.
Pietrzak >> sorry if I have been harsh. I have told you a lot of reason to prefer Grunt to Werebear, but also explained you why it was an essential card. Being able to deal with cards in graveyard in game 1 is awesome. Threshold is no longer a problem, Tarmogoyf of the opponent are no longer a problem, ... It's not that much inciherent with the play of tarmogoyf, , I'll explain why : you are the controle deck and you almost never want more than 1 beating creature in play. You should try it by yourself. Troll ascetic is bad with no Jitte and Jitte is bad in this deck in my opinion. Mongoose is also quite poor as nowadays, being 3/3 is small. The lynx is good but I would not wall him a beater. Definitely Grunt is the best.
