This is a very old archtype, that can be built in many different ways (much like landstill and its' almost endless color variations).
This is a thread for the archtype Forbiddian, which I used to love to play & I wonder if it could still be affective given the new meta.
I would love for people to be innovative and to post a different list than the one previous (different schemes and everything)... or give helpful criticism to the decks that were posted previously.
For reference here is my BGU list:
lands//23
3 faerie conclave
4 tropical island
4 underground sea
2 island
1 swamp
1 forest
1 bayou
4 polluted delta
2 wooded foothills
1 flooded strand
creatures//9
3 ophidian
4 shadowmage infiltrator
2 morphling
spells//28
4 force of will
4 counterspell
4 brainstorm
4 diabolic edict
4 pernicious deed
3 stifle
3 smother
sideboard//
4 krosan grip
4 engineered plague
4 extripate
3 engineered explosives
And my URW list:
lands//23
3 faerie conclave
4 tundra
4 volcanic island
4 flooded strand
2 island
1 plains
1 mountain
1 plateau
1 bloodstained mire
1 wooded foothills
1 polluted delta
creatures//6
2 morphling
4 ophidian
spells//31
4 force of will
4 counterspell
3 engineered explosives
4 brainstorm
3 stifle
4 swords to plowshares
4 fire/ice
3 Fact or fiction
2 lightning helix
sideboard//
4 pyroclasm
4 meddling mage
4 tormod's crypt
3 pithing needle
Both of these varients have their strengths and weaknesses (although I perfer the UGB build)... They both have good times with Tarmo.decs running around, as well as being fun to play.
Any suggestions/comments?!

you cant call them forbiddian if you dont run Forbids...

Really?
I guess I had the archtype incorrect, I thought it was simply permission with ophidian... my mistake.
I have been calling it forbiddian for years, never knew.
Could you give some criticism on the deck/idea... or is this just another old bad deck?

It looks like those Finkel decks in extended. Not Dump Truck, but a mixture of Dump Truck and Phid. It uses silver bullets and counters to keep the board clean, while Forbid and card draw from Finkel locks up the game. Nowadays, you're better off running Counterbalance and some better draw cards.
But if I were to run it again, it would go something like
// Lands 23
3 Faerie Conclave
4 Flooded Strand
4 Polluted Delta
4 Tropical Island
4 Underground Sea
4 Island
// Creatures 6
4 Shadowmage Infiltrator
1 Meloku, the Clouded Mirror
1 Masticore
// Spells 31
3 Force Spike
4 Force of Will
3 Spell Snare
3 Forbid
4 Ghastly Demise
3 Damnation
3 Pernicious Deed
4 Impulse
4 Fact or Fiction
// Sideboard 15
4 Tarmogoyf

I just played several games against UGR threshold and I only lost one game. All the others I won mainly because I was able to keep up with my opponent's threats via edicts, deeds, and countermagic. The deck also can draw cards mid to late game which can increase your chances of winning by a good portion. I was able to draw more answers and attack with morphlings and conclaves for the win.
Here is the list I am currently testing. Ill get back to you on the other matchups whenever I have more time.
// Lands
3 [UL] Faerie Conclave
1 [R] Bayou
4 [R] Tropical Island
4 [U] Underground Sea
2 [OD] Island (2)
1 [MM] Swamp (4)
1 [IA] Forest (2)
4 [ON] Polluted Delta
2 [ON] Wooded Foothills
1 [ON] Flooded Strand
// Creatures
4 [TSB] Shadowmage Infiltrator
1 [RAV] Grave-Shell Scarab
2 [WL] Ophidian
2 [US] Morphling
// Spells
4 [TE] Diabolic Edict
4 [AP] Pernicious Deed
3 [SC] Stifle
3 [ON] Smother
4 [IA] Brainstorm
4 [AL] Force of Will
4 [A] Counterspell
// Sideboard
SB: 4 [TSP] Krosan Grip
SB: 4 [UL] Engineered Plague
SB: 4 [PLC] Extirpate
SB: 3 [FD] Engineered Explosives
I added in a pretty good late game beater which is the grave-shell scarab plus you can bring the bug back with ease with shadowmages or ophidians. Other then that it is the exact same list that you provided Robert for UGB Funk phid. But yeah the list is resilient against UGR threshold Ill get back to you on the other matchups but for now I am going to call it a night. In my opinion it definetly has potential to be a pretty solid deck in legacy.
One more thing before I go though I think it could be beneficial to run either withered wretch or a planar void versus Cephalid Breakfast and/or Ichrorid Bridge. Maybe -1 Krosan Grip and -1EE in favor of 2 planar void and/or 2 withered wretches from the board.

You play only 58 cards ?
Morphling and Grave-Shell Scarab aren't really needed are they ? They are ruining your mana base. Would not you prefer Tarmogoyf ? Faerie Conclaves look poor too as they require a lot of mana.
-3 Faerie
-1 Forest
-2 Wooded Foothills
-1 Grave Shell-Scarab
-2 Morphling
+4 Tarmogoyf
+2 Ophidian
+2 Flooded Strand
+1 Island
+1 Stifle
+1 Vedalken Shackles

Heh yeah i was playing with only 58 cards of course i was playtesting at 3am in the morning so I didn't notice against one of my friends who is competent with thresh. I personally think tarmogoyf is rather bad in here mainly because deed can hit them. Also since this is a control deck I think morphling and grave shell scarab are much better late game cards then goyf is IMO. Good control decks always have a late game plan since they can last even against the fastest decks of the format like Geoff Smelski's WUB landstill deck for instance. Although goyf can be a nice surprise in the board but I will definetly test it when I have the time.
Anyway here is my most updated list that I am going to test when i have the time.
// Lands
4 [OD] Island (2)

1 [RAV] Grave-Shell Scarab
2 [US] Morphling
// Spells
3 [SC] Stifle
1 [DIS] Crime/Punishment
3 [ON] Smother
3 [TE] Diabolic Edict
2 [FD] Engineered Explosives
4 [AL] Force of Will
4 [A] Counterspell
4 [IA] Brainstorm
4 [AP] Pernicious Deed
// Sideboard
SB: 2 [IN] Mana Maze
SB: 4 [PLC] Extirpate
SB: 2 [TSP] Krosan Grip
SB: 1 [LE] Withered Wretch
SB: 2 [SOK] Pithing Needle
SB: 4 [UL] Engineered Plague
I don't get it, this is an old archetype that stand using FORBID maindeck, so if you are not running FORBID, how can it be a Forbiddian? xD
Think you should rename the deck ^^

Pardon the necro, but this should be a must read for some history behind the archetype:
http://web.archive.org/web/20020228004442/www.bdominia.com/discus/articles/tradewindFAQ.html
In short, Tradewind Bounce + Capsize Bounce helps the Ophidians get through, Ophidians help your draw, draw helps Forbid, and Medallions help buyback. Then Superman hits the board for UU mana and you win. :tongue:
Sure the 7-year-old guide needs a lot of updating, but ya gotta remember your roots! :wink:
