I had other plans last Friday, but they all crapped out on me. I ended up going to a tourney with my good old faithful (URW landstill).

There were 27 people, I was one of many. The tourney was only 6 hours (5 rounds, and no top 8 face off). The first round was called and I was just finished reconstructing my deck.

I was tired and grumpy, going almost straight to the tourney from school after a day of tests and stuff like that. My day finished off pretty good though :).

the list I used was:

4 tundra
4 volcanic island
4 flooded strand
1 plains
1 island
4 faerie conclave
4 mishra's factory
4 wasteland

3 nevinyrral's disk
2 crucible of worlds
4 standstill
3 fact or fiction
2 teferi's response
4 force of will
4 counterspell
3 fire/ice
3 swords to plowshares
3 lightning bolt
1 disenchant
2 stifle

sideboard//
3 engineered explosives
3 disenchant
3 blue elemental blast
2 red elemental blast
2 wrath of god
2 stifle

I had to make it quick, so it was a little sloppy.

Round 1: Raffinity w/ fling and shrapenel blast

Game 1: he starts off strong with a couple of critters and a plating, I stalled out until I got my disk online to sweep his board. I then continued to land lock him out with crucible wasteland... onto game 2.

Game 2: he boarded in pithing needles and red elemental blasts.
I boarded in disenchants and engineered explosives to screw with him. Needless to say It went quite similar to game 1 except in this game I had to disenchant a huge ravenger (12/12).

Record: 1-0-0

Round 2: Against Faerie Stompy (never seen this at the tourney before).

Game 1: I personally didn't know what the MU is like, so I didn't know what to think. He starts off with a challice for 1, and passes. I start with volcanic and pass, he goes land sea drake. My turn I disenchant his challice and pass. He attacks and passes I play a land, and pass. He plays a land and plays an equipment and tries to equip, in response I bolt the drake. We pass go for a while before I gain control of the board with standstills and disks. I killed him with factories.

He boards in winter orb and I board in wrath of god.

Game 2: He gets out an early winter orb, and kills me with a serendib w/ swords of fire/ice. I not only got mana screwed, but he had some really good opening during this game.

Game 3: I get disk online and blow almost his entire board, then beat him down with conclaves and factories.

Record: 2-0-0

Round 3: against UGB threshold

Game 1: Shawna is playing something out of the ordinary, and she won the dice roll. She starts with a mongoose and passes, I start with some early wastelock that eventually wins me the game (creature control and manlands helped out here).

I board in engineered explosives and she boards in extripate

Game 2: I have all my forces and disks extripated, but my manlands and watselands were still too much for her. I never had a man and in the yard (I had most of them on the board), so she didn't exripate. I also kept at least 1 wasteland on the field so that wouldn't get pated either.

Record: 3-0-0

Round 4: TES, nuff said

Game 1: I kept an optimal hand of lands counters and stifles. I start out by wasteing his lands and forcing a fizzle into 2 goblin tokens. I played out a disk and blew up the board. I then killed him softly with mishra beats.. he ran MD duress and he boarded in confidant.

I boarded out my swords for explosives and my teferi's responses for blue elemental blasts.

Game 2:, I made a ply mistake and tapped out for a crucible into a wastelock the next turn (not exactly a lock against combo, but it hurt mana production at least), he then procedes to kill me with a leathal tendrils after double duress taking my fows away for his tutor.

Game 3: I keep a hand with an explosives and a stifle, I play the explosives for zero and my first turn land to pass it over to him. He started off strong, and gets rid of my explosives with a shattering pulse on my explosives and making 10 guys. I draw into some stall and draw into the explosives to sweep his board completely. I killed him shortly after.

Record: 4-0-0

Round 5: against a teammate, playing UGW sleigh control.

Micheal wanted to draw and do it that way, so I agreed and got first (I got paired down last round, because I was the last undefeated person).

I played against a good variety of decks that do a good job of representing the meta as a whole. I got $40.oo and some extra ego, I knew the deck couldn't not get first.

Landstill has to fight and overcome, I still think it is strong (although like ancient). It may take a lot of time and skill to pilot, but I think that it would be good for the meta if people started to play this deck more.

Until next week my fellow sourcers!

Congrats on the tournament! Yeah you seem to play against the toughest decks too with urw like affinity and TES those are not easy matchups for landstill imo. I bet if you would've gone to Gencon I could see you going to the higher tables and doing well at the champs with URW landstill. The metagame was full of threshold and random stuff which this build seems to have a good game against.

Nice, i always enjoy when blue decks not running brainstorm do well.

How did teferi's response work out for you? Unless i missed something, you never used them at all. Are they there solely for sinkhole & wastes? It seems like a decent card advantage, but limited. Any thoughts?

Also, no regrets going without brainstorm?

Wasn't Teferi's response used in the original landstill lists circa 1.5 back when we had the landstill and goblins winter(more like a year?) I remember it was good when landstill's primary win conditions where lands and not 1/1 soldiers or a 5/5 dragon.

Yup. Which was a replacement for FoF before FoF got unrestricted. But it's still a good card still, esp with all the Swords and Wastelands running in the format.
